“Good Place to stay for a night”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2010

My standards are not very high when it comes to hotels, as I only value convenience, cleanliness and location. Strasser had 2 of the 3 at a very nice price. It's only a 5-minute walk from a market-filled street (Annenstrasse) from the center of Graz (Hauptplatz) so location was not a concern, despite the feeling it gave me. We had no problem finding a parking spot in front of the hotel and were very warmly welcomed by the receptionist. The room we stayed in was not very luxurious neither spacious however it was very clean and warm and I was happy to enjoy the nice breakfast the morning after. I would recommend Strasser hotel to young travellers and passers-by that want to keep the budget at bay and enjoy a very courteous stay. I picked the hotel through TripAdvisor and I was not disappointed at all!

3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2008

We went to Graz to see the Christmas markets and the ice Christmas cribs. Because we decided very late to go to Graz( two days prior to arrival), it was rather hard to find an "average" hotel for the reasonable price. So we chose the Strasser hotel for one night. We came by car and so we used the GPS to find a hotel. Otherwise it wouldn't be very hard to find it because it is located just about 3 mins walk from the main train station. The first problem we had was to find a parking space. The hotel advertises that thay have a free parking on site, but it was completly full, so we had to park our car a few streets away and it wasn't a very nice and friendly neighbourhood. As we arrived at the reception we were given a firm room in the 3rd floor looking to the side street, which was very quiet. But we needed to pay for our room in advance! Otherweise the staff was friendly and it seems they speak lots of languages. The room was narrow and long,a bit renovated on the surface only( new lively colour and a new wooden bed). But it was okay. The bathroom was completely renovated with massage shower, but it wasn't completely clean. On the top of the shower there were still green stains from the shower gel and some hair...
The breakfast lasts from 6:30-9:30. As we came down to the breakfast room at about 9 am, there were all the tables taken! And what is worse there weren't any plates and tableware even after 15 minutes as we finally got our table. the serving staff did what they could, but there were simply not enough pieces of tableware!
Overall I can say that The Strasser is the firm hotel for a weekend get-away or for one night stay, but maybe a bit dear for the service you get.

  • Liked — Vicinty of the center of town, ability to park for free on hotel site
  • Disliked — the shower was not completly cleaned, breakfast

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Strasser for one night in a double room with no bathroom. The room was large enough and tastefully decorated with clean rugs and original artwork. It was also quiet and warm on a frigid winter night. The hotel may not be the prettiest in Graz, but it's cheap, the staff are fantastic, and breakfast is included in the ridiculously good price. Highly recommended. The only negative for the hotel is that it is a short walk west of the center of town, and in winter, this can be slightly unpleasant, but it's close enough, and if you're on a budget, this is perfect.
