“Complement to saltmines visit.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2012

Recommended for people who want to know more than they learned during saltmines visit. Multimedial show (to see, to hear, to feel) of incrush. And history of Hallstatt, of course.

“Excellent museum for such a small place!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2011

The hi-tech city museum of Hallstatt is just much more than one would expect in this remote tiny village. It offers a great view on the history of the place and is fun to see, mainly because of the hi-tech gimmicks in use at various points, such as for example the room which simulates the landslide that destroyed part of the city (centuries ago). Kids of any age will find the museum at least fun, older kids will probably find it also interesting. For a quick stroll through the museum (that you'll most probably want to take) you'll need roughly half an hour, if you plan on thoroughly looking at the items on display it may even take more than an hour, but my guess would be that you'll need less than an hour on the whole.

Ps. The place needs better items and ENGLISH BOOKS in the store. I was looking for a souvenir or a good book on the history of the place and couldn't find any.

“Wonderful museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2011

We visited the museum on our day's excursion to Hallstatt. Despite the weather being what we would describe as miserable, our boat trip around the lake was lovely, with the low clouds wafting around the mountains adding another dimension to the beautiful views.

The town is very picturesque and we could imagine that had the weather been better it could have been difficult to dodge the crowds but, as it was, we had the place pretty much to ourselves.

There wasn't time to visit any of the other attractions which were on offer, so we visited the museum on the recommendation of our tour guide. How fortunate for us! It was totally absorbing, and we could have spent longer there. A really interesting and well-thought-out museum.
