“depressing neighborhood”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2010

Almost one year passed since we stayed in hotel Lordos, which helps to write an objective review.
Good thing in the hotel is that the weather in Cyprus is beautiful. The morning is very calm, the afternoon is always windy but not even a cloud can be seen.
Also the beach of the hotel is nice and the water is hot :)
Bad thing is that the hotel is very oldish, it is told to be refurbished a couple of years ago, but this only means some painting and new furnitures. The floor, the doors seem to be old. The staff is only friendly at the reception. In the restaurant they were actually rude. Once we asked for coffee, and they served some fake coffee from a freely usable coffee machine. After we asked for real coffee they put the same thing into a cup and we had to pay 6 Euros for it.
The really worst thing is the dinner. It is clear that they serve the same food for several days, they just change the name of it. The only days with eatable food are the ones when barbacue is made in the garden.
The neighborhood of the hotel is really depressing. The nearest town-like area is more than 1 km away, the weather is too hot to take the bus and go to Larnaca (which is some 20 minutes far by bus) every day. From the beach the ruins of a hotel (of the same type as Lordos) can be seen which is quite apocalyptic.
It is highly recommended to go to the nearby restaurant called Lysia instead of the hotel's restaurant. In Lysia they serve very good food for a reasonable price and the staff is very friendly.
It is also recommended to pay the higher price for rooms with a view to the sea, instead of watching the ruined hotel on the other side of the hotel.

After staying in a Paris Hotel with broken air-con i was really looking forward to this hotel, i arrive late at night, about 10pm. I joking said, "i hope your air-con works" to the friendly desk staff.
After going to my room, 308, i looked for the control box, turn it up to HIGH and cold and ice, basically "man temperature"....... so i can hear this faint...sssss.....from the vents in the wall... i was thinking it must be broken, called up maintenance who assured me the room would be cold eventually......" perhaps the next ice age" i said...... I waited in the foyer not being able to use my room for about 2 hours.... there was no change in temperature in the room.....i took a sleeping tablet and went to bed....

Luckily a hotel next door, 20 meters, was available so i moved in there, checked the air-con before i purchased the room, (sandy Beach resort Larnaca)

The hotel is nice, with large rooms, excellent seaview, nice pools. Breakfast was very good and rich, the beach is clean and the seawater is warm and clean.
It is 7 km form Larnaca city, but there is a bus station right in front of hotel, the bus is very cheap and fast, you don't need a taxi. The Larnaca airport is new and very nice, the food is good and cheap, the people are very friendly!

We have stayed at this hotel a couple of times now, the last time being in October 2009. This is a very pleasant hotel, very relaxed, with friendly staff. We stayed in the mini-suite, which was spacious with a lovely private outdoor area. There are good facilities for young children, with a paddling pool, and a small playground (although this would benefit from some shade, as the equipment gets extremely hot in the middle of the day)

The only negatives are that the beach is rather poor, and there is not much around the hotel. The hotel grounds and pools make up for this though, and all in all, this was excellent value for money.

I have to say that most of the reviews of this hotel are very fair. We went before the season really gets underway, so the hotel was not fully booked. We had a "sea and garden view" room for which we paid extra. It was well worth it, with views of the sea, gardens and pools. The room was absolutely fine and the huge bed was very comfortable. The room was cleaned to a high standard and we did not see anything of the shabby rooms mentioned in other reviews. There seems to be a lack of sound insulation and I wouldn't want to be next to a noisy family (although the corridors are carpeted).

The hotel gardens are pleasant and well cared for and the outside pools are immaculate (but cold at this time of the year). The indoor pool is quite small and you wouldn't want to use it with too many other people. However, it is a useful addition on a cold day. There is a small gym and steam room. However, the 5 euro charge for the steam room seems penny pinching. We declined. The beach is quite poor and I would not recommend the location for a beach holiday.

The reception area and bar are very nice. The bar has live music most nights. Prices are steep but not outrageous.

We did not eat in the hotel, except for breakfast. There is a good variety of things to choose from for breakfast, but the cooked food (especially fried eggs) can't really hang around for too long. It's not top notch.

I wouldn't really recommend the hotel for it's location. It's about 10km from Larnaca and a car is pretty essential. There are local tavernas and we ate out every night. We particularly liked Vlachos Taverna along the road to the right.

To sum up, I would say that the hotel is pretty good, but I wouldn't go back because I think there are much nicer locations.

Stayed for a week in March. Good choice in terms of service, price and accommodation and would definitely go back. Location is OK if you have a hire car as it is a 7km walk into Larnaca but without transport you'd feel a bit isolated. Whilst there are a few bars/tavernas opposite the hotel, they are not very exciting and you would quickly get bored with them.

The beach at the back of the hotel is very close by, literally on the door-step, but it was very pebbly/sea-weedy and lots of flies landing on us constantly as a resullt of the seaweed. Put us off laying on the beach as we spent every few seconds batting them away. However once up on the hotel grounds (and away from the sea weed) it was more relaxing and the flies practically non-existent. Quite an ugly beach - certainly not the prettiest in Cyprus.

Seems to be a bit of building work at the moment around the hotel - suspect they were getting things ready for the summer season - but it was not noisy and not intrusive.

Rooms were clean & comfortable. Very surprised not to have tea/coffee making facilities in a 4* hotel. Also no shampoo, cotton wool, etc in the bathroom (did have shower gel but that was all), which was also a little surprising for a 4*.

Breakfast was excellent. Very good and wide choice (not fresh juice but otherwise all good).

We paid for dinner in the hotel restaurant on a couple of evenings - each meal turned out to be buffet style - but the choices available were good, hot, tasty. Not exactly gourmet but pretty good value.

Staff friendly - not overly attentive - which was just right for us.

Bit cold in March to use the outdoor pools but they looked lovely. Would be nice to go back in the summer and take full advantage of them.
