We booked this hotel as part of a package through Directski, having researched resorts and hotels thoroughly on Tripadvisor since our group of six had not skied before.
We were aware that rooms at the front of the hotel could be noisy, since they are right on the main street through Soldeu, so we specifically requested higher floor, rear rooms. What did we get? You guessed, three front, first floor rooms, right over the Iceberg bar, with a great view of the passing traffic. The only rooms in the hotel without even a balcony. No room changes possible, since the hotel was fully booked for the week. We should perhaps have reminded the hotel of our request on checking in, but at that point we were exhausted after a very early start and difficult journey. We do wonder if Directski customers get allocated the less popular rooms as they pay the most competitive price for this hotel?
Oh well, we soon got used to late night revellers and early morning traffic, the double glazing was pretty good and, after all, the room was just somewhere to sleep after a fun day skiing. The rooms were very warm all the time, so we had to turn all the heating off and needed no more than T-shirts in the hotel. The beds were extremely comfortable, and the bathrooms large and well fitted, with a bath and good shower over. The storage in the room was a little impractical - a double wardrobe with a few small, stiff drawers inside, large bedside cupboards with no shelves inside, and a bureau incorporating a useful fridge. However, the rooms were quite large, with enough space to use your suitcase for storage too. The room safe could be put into use for 3 Euros per day - a bit excessive, but we shared one between all of us.
We thought the buffet-style food was pretty good on the whole. Breakfast was quite comprehensive, with fresh omelettes or fried eggs, and plenty of pastries, as well as almost anything else the European clientele might want.
The dinner buffet was usually good, with a selection of salads, fish and soup to start. There was a large selection of main courses which varied each night, but which included a surprising number of fresh fish dishes, including fresh sea bass cooked in front of you. Unfortunately, as in many European hotels, the trays supposed to keep prepared dishes hot did not all function well, so it's best to go for a newly replenished dish if you want your food to be hot. No complaints from us though, we really enjoyed the selection of food. There were some lovely home made tarts and desserts, too. The drinks, being in tax-free Andorra, were not too overpriced either.
We used the spa one evening. The swimming pool was quite chilly, and seemed to be getting chillier. The jacuzzi was a standard model, but made our eyes smart after a while. The sauna was very good - quite spacious and hot once it got warmed up. The changing rooms had no private cubicles and the door opened directly to the pool area - not much privacy there - and the showers did not drain very fast. In all, it seemed unnecessary to be making a 5 Euro charge for these facilities, but it was a relaxing treat for those aching muscles.
The hotel provided ski lockers for a returnable deposit, which saved us having to pay out for lockers elsewhere, and it was not too far to walk to the gondola in ski boots.
Although we found the restaurant staff to be friendly, those on reception tended not to be particularly welcoming or helpful. We were pleased to be given a small picnic bag on the morning of our early departure.
The hotel is situated right in the middle of the main street through Soldeu, with very quick access to local bars and the two little supermarkets as well as, of course, the main gondola up to the ski slopes.
We thought the Piolets hotel was ideal for our group, and pretty much as we had anticipated, but we would have loved a quieter, more picturesque outlook!
If sleep quality is important, get a room at the rear, away from the main street.

First of all we would like to thank you for choosing our hotel. At the same time, thank you for sharing your experience with the rest of Tripadvaisor Community.
We are happy to know you had a happy stay with your group in general though you had the inconvenience with the situation of some of your rooms because they were faced to the main street where it could be a little noisy because of the traffic.
Unfortunately we could not move you into another room, which face directly to the mountain with a lovely views, because we were fully booked that particular week.
I hope next time we can allocate in one of those rooms and enjoy the tranquility of that, we will do our best.
we are also happy you like the location , just right the main gondola ,as well than the rest of the services you have enjoy as well, though we will keep in mind all your suggestion and recommendation to improve our services like as the spa and restaurant.
Our priority is offer to all our guests a warm service and an excellent experience.
