Stayed 12/2/2012-19/2/2012 and can only say it was excellent. The rooms are of a good size and easily accomodated me my wife and 16 year old daughter. If you are travelling with children but would prefer seperate rooms then it could not be much better as every room shares an entrance hall with its neighbour. For example i stayed in room 419b this was accessed from the main door from the hotel landing wich leads into a shared entrance hall with room 419a.So if you had smaller kids you could leave both bedroom doors open leaving the main landing door shut so making a two bed room apartment.
The staff are very freindly and could not do enough for us.
With regard to the ski shuttle service,it was FANTASTIC,you walk out of the boot room into the underground car park and there is nearly always two mini busses waiting, in the whole week i did not wait more than two mins going to the lift or on the way back. Its as close to ski in ski out as you can get.
So on to the food,What ever you do dont be put off by some of the less than complimentry reviews that you might have read,ITS SUPERB!.
They had beef,they had veal
every bit of pig
apart from its squeal
there were salads there was fish
shell fish and king prawns
as big as your dish
There was soup,there was fruit
there was puddings ther was cheese
there was so much food
it could have fed Belize
They catered well for the kids
and all nationalities too
exept for the Australians
cos ther was no kangaroo
Ok i do agree that some of the main courses were on the tepid side.i also think this could be remedied by making sure the plates were warmer, but it was not cold and it was all very tasty.
I have skied all over Europe and stayed in some very nice hotels and this one i would put in my top two.
The bar staff are super and turn making a gin and tonic into an art form,First they take a huge brandy glass the size of a small goldfish bowl, half fill it with ice swirling it round to chill the glass, then after pouring off the excess melt water, they have this wonderfull technique of grabing lemon and lime skins between two sets of tongs, twisting it to spray the zest all around the inside and rim of the glass.then in with a generouse amount of gin and topped with the tonic.Believe me its great, just what i needed after a day of throwing fifteen stone of blubber around the mountains.
My only moan would be you can not change money here, not only in this hotel but anywhere. There are no banks only cash points. So if you arrive with stirling or traveler cheques you are stuffed,so be warned.
The price of drinks in the hotel are very reasonable 13-25 euros for a bottle of wine and 2.5 euros for a small beer, quite good for a 4 star hotel. They are cheaper in apres ski bars just up the road 2 euros for a large beer in happy hour 4 euros after,BEATS THE HELL OUT OF FRANCE.
To summerise the piolets park and spa is great,Soldeu is great and the bonus is every thing is reasonably priced,so when you get home you should still be able to pay the mortgage, you will not have you house re posessed and so will be able to return next year.(NOT LIKE FRANCE)
