“Great Hotel unhelpful staff.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2014

Currently staying at the Sport Hotel Soldeu. After visiting Soldeu loads of times over the past 12 years I finally booked a week in this hotel. Fantastic hotel, lovely room, great location and best of all the food however all this is slightly ruined by some of the indifferent and at times rude staff. Reception are great as are the cleaners however some of the male bar and restaurant staff are very rude. This would put us off in future as the piolets down the road has staff that couldn't be more helpful and friendly despite the hotel not being quite as nice.

My wife and I have skied in Soldeu on and off for the last decade. We use both the Sport Village and Sport Hotels. We have stayed in the Sport Hotel for our last 3 visits because it is great value for money and the Sport Village has become too expensive for our personal needs.

The food is excellent with a massive choice of precooked self service dishes or cooked on the spot food, typically red meat, fish, burgrs and chicken. Staff are always pleasant even if not all of them speak English.

The rooms are alittle spartan but meet basic needs, hairdryer, in room safe and reasonable cupboard space with a decent bathroom with toilet, bidet and a very powerful shower over the bath. They dont have a fridge and you need to bring your own travel kettle if you are a hot drink fanatic and need a cuppa outside of meal times.

There is often quality live evening entertainment in the bar and free wifi is available here as well as in the lounge area next to reception (get wifi password here).

As a guest you are allowed one free visit to the Hermitage Spa which is part of the Sport Hotel family and linked to it by an internal walkway. This is a 'Not to Miss' opportunity, the facilities are spectacular not least the pool and the swim outside jacuzzis. TIP - you need to take your own wet wear flip flops otherwise you have to buy a pair.

The hotel has its own free boot and ski lockers for guests directly across the road on the way to the gondola which is a couple of minutes walk.

We have always enjoyed our stay here and this year was no exception. Well worth a visit.

Room Tip: We like Room 1407 - on 4th floor facing west with balcony overlooking the swimming pool. This is th...

Just back from a week at the Sport Hotel. Soldeau was great and thoroughly recommend a ski holiday here..however disappointed with the hotel. Stayed at the Bruxelles 2 years ago and honestly preferred it to the Sport Hotel.
The room was ok, we were at the rear of the hotel on the 5th floor and our view was a crane!!! Worst view in any hotel ever..and I have been skiing for 20 years!! The heating was raging..we had to turn the radiator off. No balcony. Food in the buffet looked great and to be honest tasted ok but everything was just slightly warm. Breakfast appeared to be a bit of a bun fight at 8am...but was much better after 9am. Dinner was also ok..but not great..there is something for everyone but again just barely warm.
Location is really good...2 minute walk to locker and another 2 minutes to the Gondola
Public areas are lovely and very clean..staff are very friendly and willing to help. All in all probably not worth the extra money especially as food not brilliant and no balcony or view.
Went with Neilson who were ok...
Would recommend Fat Alberts, Bruxelles, Fontanella and the Greasy Spoon on the high street for food...all good.
Great ski conditions, good resort and great ski school

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony at the front or side of the hotel

We are just back from staying a week in the Sport Hotel with our 2 kids aged 7 & 10. The hotel is warm, cosy and our room was super spacious. There were kids activities avaliable in the hotel but we were out all day and didnt have the need to use them.

The buffet breakfast and dinner had something for everyone and the staff were very attentive. If Bobby Alexander is playing in the bar during your stay he is a definate must see, super voice and great interaction with the audience. Even the manager was joining in on the dance floor,

Wifi is really only avaliable in the lobby and bar but there are plenty of cosy seats around that area to connect and relax.
The gondola station is right opposite the hotel and you receive a free locker in the hotel opposite for the duration of your stay. We were told to get a locker in the gondola station at the top of the mountain for 60 euro for the week and this was a god send especially if you have kids as you can take your lunch and extra clothes etc up in the morning and leave them in the locker if needed and you dont have to carry or wear your boots up and down the mountain.

The atmosphere in the bar area to the right of the gondola station is amazing with shots being handed out in the afternoon if you get up to dance and the dj plays the most amazing tunes.

Fat Alberts is a must for your Apres-Ski to see the "Shambles" a bunch of ski instructors singing who are game for a laugh and dont take themselves too serious.

We will certaining be coming back next year and hope to stay in the same hotel and experience the great atmosphere again.

We stayed here 3 years ago.
Although not the biggest hotel, it was comfortable. Certainly plenty of space to spread out. The crash out areas with the sofas are awesome after a day boarding (and falling) down the mountains.
Food was excellent, bar was a little undermanned at times. Free WiFi always help the FB and Instagram fiend.
Staff were friendly and attentive (part from the undermanned bar). Reception staff very good, restaurant staff excellent. Always happy and ready for a laugh - even if we english speaking fools don't speak the local tongue. Rooms were kept to a high standard of cleanliness.
2 minutes stroll down hill to the gondola. Lockers are adequate.
A nive place to base yourself in Soldeu.

Didn't travel in 2013 - but option doesn't let me go to Feb 2011.

Room Tip: The road can get noisy early, especially when transfers are happening - 4 am is not good when you ha...

Just come back from Skiing Trip in Soldeu Andorra..... Booked through Crystal Ski... Stayed at the Sport Hotel all I can say is what an excellent hotel. Staff were great, food was absolutely excellent, I would be most surprised if anybody could not have found something they liked, they catered for everybody with an excellent choice. Hotel has locker facilities for skis etc situated just across the road, on route to the ski bubble, to the main ski area which takes about 5 mins to walk. Also has free use of Spa on Monday & Tuesday, but had to be in there before 3pm, so if your out skiing for the day was unable to use, so thought this was a bit pointless... but apparently was beautiful which was the term used by one of my party who used it... Rooms were cleaned everyday with change of towels etc...
Skiing was absolutely fantastic with mostly English Ski Instructors who you could not fault. Plenty of runs for all levels of Skiing....
If you didn't fancy staying in the hotel for the evening there were plenty of bars you could go to with music etc...
All in all this was a great holiday will definitely be returning next year.....

We have stayed at this hotel three times now and it just gets better every year. Although this is the cheapest of the 3 hotels (the others being the Sport Village and the Hermitage) in Soldeu, it is by far the best ski hotel we have stayed at across numerous European resorts. The food is fabulous, with a huge range of hot and cold choices and an amazing grill. I defy even the fussiest of eaters not to be happy with the choice. My only disappointment this year was that we didn't get the same table every night as we have in previous years. Previously, when you arrived for dinner on the first night, whatever table you chose was yours for the week and it was nicer when you could just head to the same table rather than wander looking for a two-seat table each night. But maybe that's just me......
However, for the first time this year we had lovely fluffy bathrobes in the room and there was a beautiful plate of handmade chocolates left for us on our first night. The staff are extremely helpful throughout the hotel and I can't fault them. (which is unusual for me!!)
We didn't use the spa as we were only there to ski, but I think it's good to have the option. We got an amazing deal for this hotel through Neilson and I would thoroughly recommend it. They use the same ski lockers as the more expensive Village Hotel, which is directly opposite the hotel. It means all you have to do is cross the road to the lockers in the morning, collect your skis and boots and walk through a corridor to the gondola station...couldn't be easier and I would recommend this to anyone who hates lugging their skis miles in the morning. Overall a wonderful holiday.

Room Tip: Ask for a mountain view, though you may need to pay more for it.
