“Fantastic hotel for the price!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2014

We have stayed at this hotel three times now and it just gets better every year. Although this is the cheapest of the 3 hotels (the others being the Sport Village and the Hermitage) in Soldeu, it is by far the best ski hotel we have stayed at across numerous European resorts. The food is fabulous, with a huge range of hot and cold choices and an amazing grill. I defy even the fussiest of eaters not to be happy with the choice. My only disappointment this year was that we didn't get the same table every night as we have in previous years. Previously, when you arrived for dinner on the first night, whatever table you chose was yours for the week and it was nicer when you could just head to the same table rather than wander looking for a two-seat table each night. But maybe that's just me......
However, for the first time this year we had lovely fluffy bathrobes in the room and there was a beautiful plate of handmade chocolates left for us on our first night. The staff are extremely helpful throughout the hotel and I can't fault them. (which is unusual for me!!)
We didn't use the spa as we were only there to ski, but I think it's good to have the option. We got an amazing deal for this hotel through Neilson and I would thoroughly recommend it. They use the same ski lockers as the more expensive Village Hotel, which is directly opposite the hotel. It means all you have to do is cross the road to the lockers in the morning, collect your skis and boots and walk through a corridor to the gondola station...couldn't be easier and I would recommend this to anyone who hates lugging their skis miles in the morning. Overall a wonderful holiday.

Room Tip: Ask for a mountain view, though you may need to pay more for it.

We travelled as a group of 7 and had 3 rooms for a week half-board at the 4* Sport Hotel. It proved to be an excellent choice and provided us with an exceptional base for our ski holiday. We would definitely stay again and would highly recommend the hotel to anyone planning to holiday in Soldeu.

The positives:
• location is perfect for the gondola to the ski slopes and also for all the bars, restaurants and shops along the main street
• the hotel provides a great selection of quality food and catered for all tastes. Chefs were also on hand to cook to order - both at breakfast (7.30 - 10.30) and during the evening meal (19.30 - 22.30)
• the bedrooms were spotless, provided dressing gowns and all the necessary complimentary wash packs, and the towels were changed every other day
• the bedroom also contains a free safe
• for the skiers lockers were also provided, close to the gondola, free of charge
• wifi is available in the hotels public areas
• all staff were excellent and very friendly
• entertainment was provided on several nights in the hotel bar – hotel drink prices as expected are a little more than the local bars – for a comparison a pint of San Miguel costs 4.20 Euros and a large glass of Chablis 7 Euros in the hotel bar
• the gym facilities are very good and also free of charge
• spa was also available but at a cost of 35 Euro for 3 hours – if you intend to use this take some flip flops otherwise you will have to buy them (12 Euros)
• Andorra VIP bands are available from reps at a cost of 5 Euros each, we bought 2 for our group of 7 and easily recouped our outlay in one evening on 2-4-1 drinks and shots

Areas for improvement (if I was being really picky):
• wifi should be provided throughout the hotel complex
• as is often the case in Europe - no tea / coffee facilities provided in rooms
• TV choice and reception in bedrooms is very poor
• showers and their screens could do with a rethink as often erratic in temperature and enabled you to easily soak the bathroom
• have to pay for all bottled water and drinks during the evening meal
• family room for 3 provided to our group was no bigger than ordinary double rooms
• all doubles are just twin beds pushed together

Overall don’t let the negatives put you off as it’s a great hotel with a lovely atmosphere. Enjoy your holiday!

Room Tip: Ask for a top floor room away from the lifts

My dad, brother and I stayed at the Sport Hotel at the end of January 2014. It is an excellent location, not even 2 minute walk to the gondola! The pubs/bars (aspen, harp, fattys) are all around 5 minute walk away but that was not a problem at all for us. The hotel staff were very friendly and polite and the hotel is very cozy! If you prefer modern hotels, this may not be the right one for you however, the interior is very traditional, and reminds me of a proper ski chalet. The hotel is huge and has lots of room to accommodate everyone at breakfast, tea and in the lounge area.
Our room was very clean and tidy. Not a spot of dust. Fairly small but we were skiing most of the time, or in the lounge using their free wifi! Cleaners also did a great job, every day we would come in from a long days skiing and the room would be immaculate.
Range of food in the restaurant was excellent. There were different types of pizzas, soup, traditional food (snails, octopus), VERY big range salad, types of bread, fish, chicken, steak perfectly cooked in front of you to how you like it, anything you can think of they had it. The deserts were also beautiful, there was always a wide range of fresh fruit but every night they had different small deserts such as chocolate mousse, cheesecake, brownie etc. The waiters/waitresses were so friendly, very helpful and quick on drink orders.
The locker rooms are directly opposite the hotel, and from there, there is a cut through straight to he gondola... Ideal!
There is also a spa at the hotel. The spa looked lovely; huge pool, 3 jacuzzis etc. You do get a free visit if you stay here, however you can only enter if you take so e flip flops in (mandatory) and if not you can buy them at €12. We wasn't going to pay this as there were 3 of us and not really worth it for a quick swim, so if you do stay at the hotel, make sure you take some!!!
Last year we stayed at the Piolets just down the road from the Sport, and all 3 of us much preferred this one!
I also heard from someone in my ski group that here was a kids club at the hotel were her son was attending while she's as skiing. I'm not 100% exactly what it is, but I know they did have something for the kids.
Overall the holiday was amazing and I highly recommend anyone to stay at the Sport Hotel.

Room Tip: Try and get a room towards the front of the hotel. We had one at the very back and view wasn't v...

Just came back from family ski vacation at the Sport hotel. Choose this hotel for its location (just across the street from the gondola) and price ( Cheaper then the Sport hotel village that is located in the gondola building).
We had a "room with a view" for Mom and Dad and a quadruple room for 4 teen-aged girls.
Room with a view – not worth it. These rooms face the main road (more noise) and most of the view is the building across the street. If you move closer to the window and look at the correct angle, you might see a glimpse of the slopes behind that building .
Quadruple room – was really large and nice. It had two floors. The first one with a double bed and a bathroom. On the second floor were 2 single beds and 2 pull our sofas that we didn't use. But it looks like it can accommodate a larger group of people. But then again it only has one bathroom, can be challenging for 4 girls.
Both rooms had a bath tub. I love having a bath after a skiing day to relax my muscles. There was always plenty of hot water. Especially handy since the spa and pools are at additional cost (about 35euro).
There was a hair drier and a safe in the room.
On the down side:
The room was too cold, even with the heat at full power. We dare not open the window for some fresh air, as we were not sure the room temperature will recover. The décor is old and has a sad atmosphere. Not enough wardrobe space. When you come for a week of ski, you have a lot of cloths that you need a place to put. Here there were about 4 hangers for coats, which is fine, 6 cloth hangers and 3 small drawers. Not enough for 2 people.
On the other hand, public spaces were nice, this hotel has the largest lobby space I have ever seen, and there is free WiFi in the lobby.
There is a very nice free Gym
Breakfast was great with a very wide variety of fresh and tasty food.
We didn't take the diner option at the hotel. We ate at the restaurants in the village. Note that most restaurants were half empty, but for the ones recommended by trip advisor, you need to reserve a table in advance.
Parking – there is no guest parking at the hotel. You need to park at the garage in the gondola building for a fee. But it is better than parking on the street where your car will be covered with snow and you will have a hard time moving it at the end of the week.
One evening we took a bus to Andora la vella for some shopping – buses run every few minutes, last one back is at 21:15
Ski:
The hotel is located across the street from the gondola building, where you will also find the ski rental shop and the hotels complementary Ski lockers. You do need good shoes to go to the ski lockers, as the street is at an angle had is covered by ice and snow. Each locker is for 5 guests. Between the 6 of us we had 2 lockers and did not have to share with other guests. It was convenient for us, but I can hardly see how you store equipment of 5 people in a locker. The Boot racks are not heated, but the ski room is kept at a warm enough tempurtue, so your boots are nice and warm when you put them on in the morning.
As said it is the hotel has very easy access to the slopes: it is only a few steps from the gondola and there are nice ski runs that lead back down form the mountain.
Would I stay here again?
If the price is right. If I come with a large family again, I will probably stay here. If we come as a couple, I will probably try a newer hotel.

Room Tip: Some rooms are cloder then others. If the room is cold as you enter, ask for a diffrent room. Don...

Stayed at the Sport hotel last January as a group of eight. Myself and partner returned again this January (Crystal/Thomson ski package), as we enjoyed the excellent location and facilities. We weren't disappointed. True ,there is building work taking place in the Sports plusher sister hotel opposite, but the idea of the holiday is to spend daylight hours actually on the slopes, not looking at them through the scaffolding from the bedroom window. Rooms comfortable. Good choice of food at breakfast and dinner. Friendly staff. Perfect. We attended "ski school" again, which is the ideal way to improve your technique, iron out any bad habits, explore the mountains and make new friends. "The Villager" pub, situated next to the gondola is a comfortable venue for some après and "The Aspen" and "Fat Alberts" are livelier evening venues. (The ski instructors let their hair down and provide entertainment on certain evenings. Good fun and recommended). I'll certainly be visiting Soldeu again staying at the Sport.

Room Tip: The front of the hotel overlooks the road and building work. The back looks at a rock face and an ar...

My husband is an avid skier, however, I like to ski either in the morning or afternoon, not both. I either do paperwork in my room or chill and read in the morning, or I chill or sleep in my room in the afternoon. We were given a room at the front, immediately opposite our hotel and opposite our window they are building a new hotel, so no,view, I could have coped with this but the builders start at 8 and for most of the day a pneumatic drill pounds away, making rest, reading or concentrating on writing impossible.
