“Half Way House, Polis Argaka”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2013

Fantastic place. Vaz and Julie are perfect hosts. The food is wonderful, and loads of it- I couldn't finish all mine. If you do not eat a lot I would recommend skipping the starters, though the mixed starters with pitta bread are to die for. All freshly made, and have never tasted pitta bread like it. Julie's desserts are all home made and wouldn't like to say which is best. I noticed that at least one of your reviewers commented on the fact that the Halfway House is not open in the evenings. Actually this is not strictly true. We asked Vaz why he was not open in the evening and he told us that his wife had been rushed into hospital for an emergency operation, therefore he was unable to stay open in the evening like he usually does so that he could have some time with his wife. Also it is to be remembered that Julie is one of the mainstays of this establishment and does most of the cooking herself, though the father Jack also does his fair share. A definite on our hot list. The outside seating area is very relaxing under the vines.

“Not open in the evenings!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2013 via mobile

Although I appreciate that this place has rave reviews because of the quality of food and hospitality, it is worth travellers knowing that this place is not open for evening meals. We drove out there to look at the menu one afternoon only to discover that there was no evening service. A bit disappointing as we had set aside a night to go!

“Wonderful food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2013

The food in this family owned and run restaurant is excellent.
We enjoyed a delicious supper with copious amounts of really good house wine. To be repeated often next year.

“Excellent food & very friendly service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2013

Stopped for a coffee one morning as close to where we were staying & thought the English lady & her Cypriot family so friendly we would go back for lunch another day! Lunch was a large freshly squeezed glass of orange & cold beer followed by chicken pitta for my husband and he added the spicy sausage + wine one; it was all delicious. I had grilled lamb chops, fried onions, mushrooms, egg, salad & home made chips (perhaps a strange combination but it worked very well & wasn't in the least bit greasy), it was gorgeous and the portions are very generous. We had anticipated going back one evening for dinner (as they open for breakfasts & lunch every day apart from Monday when it is closed, & open Friday & Saturday evening)but unfortunately it was closed. We called in the next day to be told the by the Cypriot husband that his wife had to have an emergency operation & was in hospital. We wish her a speedy recovery & hope to see you next year. You have a fantastic taverna, spotlessly clean & first class food and very welcoming. Thank you:)
