“Enjoyable hoilday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2007

We returned from our stay at the Ascos yesterday and we had a brillant hoilday!!

The Ascos is a great base for getting about and seeing what Cyprus has to offer. We would so recommend hiring a car and going off and exploring (Lara Bay, Akmas Peninsula, the villages in Akmas Heights are all great and worth a visit)

If we had spent 7 days and 7 nights soild in The Ascos im sure we could list faults but that is not what we look for from a hoilday. Spending anywhere that long would drive us mad!

The food was nice with a good choice everyday, the pool was fantastic
very clean and loads of space, the rooms were spacious (from our room
we saw
beautiful sunsets everynight, the staff all very friendly and the weather was fab!!!

Having read other reviews there seems to be a lot of the complaints about the entertainment in the evenings. We didn't really spend much time watching it as its not really our thing (all a bit hoilday camp!) But from what we did see the team were trying hard and people seemed to be enjoying it!!

Overall we would say it is as good a hotel as any and if you are thinking of going to Cyprus we would recommend it.

Reading the reviews before going i had some concerns about this hotel but it was fantastic.

the pool area was lovely and clean with plenty of free sunbeds at all times during the day. The rooms were of a good size and nicely decorated. The food in the hotel was fantastic always plenty of choice - i'm a very fussy eater and still ate plenty!!!

The entertaintment was ok. there was plenty going on during the day and they didn't pester you to join in. The evening entertainment was the usual tacky thing - bingo, shows and singing. I thought it was ok but my boyfriend wasn't as impressed. The team did try hard tho. The evening entertainment finished around 11pm as the surrounding houses complained of the noise!!

The hotel was in a nice quiet location only a five minute walk to coral bay. Overall a great holiday with no screaming kids!!!!!

we found that the ascos had no atomsphere.the staff on reception were not at all freindly or helpful, for example our air con stopped working in the middle off the night i rang rep and was told their was nothing they could do until morning i asked could they at least give me a fan and was told no they had'nt got one.when we complained the next day they didnt want to know.some of the bar staff were nice but as for the drink all i can say is it will take you a long time to get drunk .the only time we had a proper drink was when we went to the bars outside.the rooms were small but they were clean and the towels were changed daily.we enjoyed paphos.but the hotel was a bit out off the way,so we hired a car.we cant really complain about the food their was plenty and the menu was changed daily, however when the last bite was in your mouth your plate was snapped away this was so annoying after awhile, as if they didnt want you sitting for very long it got to the stage were we could'nt enjoy our food be cause the staff were waiting to pounch on our plates.all in all we enjoyed paphos and would go back but not to that hotel, there are some nice hotels in paphos that really are 4 star.

Booked the holiday as a late deal,Hotel very good, staff excellent,The food was out of this world,so much to choose from,as we were fully inclusive, had to try most things.
The entertainment team, worked very hard all day, evening stuff was ok for a short time.Free drinks were (from my view a bit low in alcohol) but very drinkable.Pool area very clean, plenty of sunbeds to choose from,
The only down side was the beach just a short walk down a steep hill,no sand, lots rocks, but nice clear water to swim in.
If you go out for a meal choose one of the small bars, the larger one's are not so good.
All in all a nice relaxing holiday, give it a try.

After reading reviews on here, I was slightly concerned about the Ascos.
The main advantage of this hotel is the fact that during the peak times there are no children in the hotel. The pool area was pleasant and clean. There were free sunbeds all day, no early rush so lots of people would sleep in.

The hotel its self is pleasant and well maintained, the room was a good size and we payed extra for a pool view. The only downsize was that our maid seem to rush cleaning, and the room floor was noticeably dirty by the end of the holiday.

The entertainment team did get it wrong at times. The timings felt wrong in the evening, and bingo etc was stretched out. Its meant to stop at 11pm but they randomly did or didn't. This was annoying when I was up at 5.45am for a scuba diving trip.

The food was fantastic, there is also a snack bar so food is available all day. (be prepared to come back home a bit heavier!)

Overall it was a pleasant stay at the Ascos and I would stay again. This hotel is ideal for couples who want a nice relaxing stay.

We have just returned from staying at the Ascos Coral Beach Hotel in Cyprus and we arrived with a very open mind. Our first impressions were fairly good as the reception were friendly and efficient and dealt with any queries and requests quickly and effectively.

The hotel rooms are adequate and whilst dated they do provide everything that is required for the stay including a kettle and tea and coffee facilities. The bathrooms do not have air conditioning but there is air conditioning that worked properly in the bedrooms. The balconies are either a side view, sea view and pool view (a few boats passed by but not much else was happening), or a view of building work that is taking place to the back and side of the hotels. The views to the pool give a view to all entertainment that takes place in the hotel which can either be an advantage or a disavantage depending on your point of view. For early starts, trips from the hotel the pick up time was always 7.15 am, this could be an inconvenience but it was often pleasant to sit on the balcony and hear what was going on! The hotel room was cleaned very day.

To begin with there appeared to be a good selection of food but it became repetitive and not interesting after a while. We did see a cockroach running across the floor in the breakfast room early one morning when we got up for a trip which was very off putting!

There was an outdoor and indoor pool which were of a good size and clean. There was plenty of room to sit around the pool and the service was good too. Air conditioning was always working in the bedrooms but not always on in the dining rooms and downstairs in the foyer. It made it very hot particularly during a heatwave when temperatures where reaching 44 degrees.

The entertainment in the hotel can only be described as poor! The Enterainment Team are working very hard but it is not up to the usual Thomas Cook standard and was very embarrassing and disappointing. There was a daytime programme that was adequate but the evening programme did not cater fully for the adult audience that was present in the hotel. Bingo every night and then a performance which was always finished by 11pm due to complaints from neighbours about the noise. This is not a full evenings entertainment programme that has been paid for in an all inclusive hotel. Support is needed from Thomas Cook to sort out the issues and problems with the entertainment because it is affecting the atmosphere and general feeling in the hotel. Many guests went else where for the evening and many negative comments where heard throughout the day and evening. Trips were needed to provide some other source of entertainment but trips started at 7.15 am and then as the hotel is the first pick up it was around 8.15am before all other pick ups had taken place and the journey started! However trips were well organised and informative.

Coral Bay itself takes about ten minutes to walk around and has everything that is needed. There is a good beach, one of the best beaches in the Paphos area, and a regular bus service which runs into Paphos every ten - twenty mintues. It takes about forty mintues to reach Paphos which is full of restuarants and bars with some shops but the products sold are much the same as the items that can be found in Coral Bay.

In general it was an average hotel in an average location!

Having fallen in love with the Ascos after a weeks stay last July, we knew we had to come back for more, and this holiday certainly didn't let us down.

On arrival the hotel looked as smart and clean as ever, and we were attended to very quickly and efficiently by the reception staff.
Although one lift was out of order this posed little of a problem, as the other didn't leave you standing around for too long, and it encouraged us to get a little exercise by taking the stairs, you've got to burn those cocktails off some how!.

We were given a room at the front of the hotel, which was fully air conditioned and felt like heaven after a long hot day at the pool!, the room was a good size with a nice bathroom and was kept very clean by the maids, who changed our towels every day! It also had a nice sized balcony with a table and chairs if you wanted to relax for an afternoon. Although there was building work opposite our room you heard hardly any noise, so it didn’t affect our stay.

The Pool area at the hotel is fantastic, plenty of sun beds and parasols which was important to us as we spend a lot of our time there, and the swimming pool itself is great and always kept clean and fresh, the gardens and grass area are very well maintained and give it a lovely setting.

Throughout the day the Thomas Cook entertainment team organised things like water volleyball, darts, pool and a quiz which anyone could participate in, but if it's not your thing then they didn’t bother you. They were also the evening entertainment for the majority of nights, which wasn’t up to last years standard and unfortunately looked a little amateurish at times, though they tried their best, but as the holiday was more about the company and conversation of friends it was pleasant enough. Although after two weeks the constant pleas to tick the excellent box did become annoying. The local acts they had in were very good, so it would be nice to see more of them.

The food, breakfast was a good selection including cereals, pastries, fruit (fresh & tinned), yoghurt, and your usual cooked breakfast. With fresh juice and hot drinks available.
At lunch there was a salad bar and a selection of cooked food, pasta, chips etc, which did get a little repetitive into the second week, but I usually only wanted something light so it was fine for that.
You have dinner in the main restaurant which consisted of a carvery, with a salad bar and a selection of cooked food such as pasta, fish, and chicken or beef dish, with chips, potatoes etc next to it, this was good food but like lunch got a bit too repetitive after a week, so it would be great if the hotel could add in a selection of more local dishes or something a little different. But I am certainly going to miss the banana ice cream!!

The staff at the hotel are excellent, they're all very polite and happy to speak to you, and work really hard, in particular Julia who was fantastic and always made us laugh! and Marina in the restaurant who is lovely and never seen without a smile!

Outside of the hotel it's just a couple of minutes walk on to the main street in Coral Bay where you'll find a selection of shops, bars and restaurants (the Coral King is really nice, though if you're having the meze make sure you're very hungry beforehand!) the beach is only 15 minutes walk from the hotel and looks really nice, there is also a bus stop running through the main street which will take you to Pafos for 80 cents.

We had an amazing holiday at the Ascos, and could easily have stayed there for another two weeks, I never thought I’d want to revisit the same hotel but there’s just something about it that makes us want to go back time again, so try it for yourself and see if you can’t find your own slice of heaven! and fingers crossed we’ll be going back pretty soon!
