“loved the seaviews”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2008

We stayed on an all- inclusive deal which was very good. The food was ok we did not go hungry they seemed to cater for the English with a roast meat and vegetables every evening plus fish and salads and a choice of ice cream, deserts and locally made cheeses. The staff were friendly mainly from Poland. The bar had a good selection of locally made alcholic drinks, wines and beers plus coffee and tea which you could help yourself to.
The hotel is in a lovely setting built overlooking the sea. We had very nice sunsets. The swimming pool was very inviting and the use of the pool towels is a good idea, you don`t get wet towels hanging over balconies.
Coral Bay is a small resort with a few gift shops 2 suppermarkets and lots of bars and restaurants. There is a sandy beach about 15 minutes walk from the hotel with a bar.
Paphos is about 15 minutes drive from the hotel. It is a good idea to hire a car as their is so much to see and do on this side of the island.

  • Liked — good pool and seaviews plus you could sit on the balcony and watch the entertainment.
  • Disliked — no kettle in room for tea and cofffee making.

We had looked at this hotel many times in the holiday brochure but it was always too expensive but lucky we did get a cheap deal. I was glad as I would not have paid a lot of money to stay here.
Accommodation - lot's of building work which we were warned about. Our room faced onto the building work but it wasn't too noisy. The rooms are in need of an overhaul and also a very good clean. You do get a fridge and tea and coffee making facilities in your room.

Outdoor Pool - the outdoor pool was lovely for relaxing at and very quiet.

Indoor Pool - didn't use as I seen the cleaners sweeping dirty water intop the pool so I did not use it same with the jacuzzi.

Gym - equipment was in bad state of repair with ripped seats on the bikes.

Food - Breakfast was good with a good selection to suit everyone's taste. Evening meal was appalling boiled beef, rich tea biscuits in cream for the pudding (honestly I couldn't believe this), the only night I enjoyed was the Cyproit evening.

Drink was reasonably priced but the draught coke was nothing more than water with syrup added.

Entertainment - the team they tried thier best although it wasn't too our taste the older generaton did enjoy it.

Staff - the hotel staff were all very friendly and helpful which is one of the pluses.

We enjoyed the peace and quiet but this hotel is not a 4 star hotel and the Tsokkos group are really lowering thier standards as I have stayed at thier other hotels in Cyprus. they seriously need to look at the standards in this hotel.

Coral Bay it's self is more expensive than actual Paphos town probably due to it's locality and the fact buses don't run after 7pm so the bars can charge the prices that they do.

It's been 3 years since I was last in Paphos/Cyprus and wasn't prepeared for the hike in the prices since they have changed to the euro. It was more expensive than back home.

If you want comfort/luxury/good food give this hotel a miss.

we stayed at ascos from boxing day 07 to 9/1/08 half board this is suposed to be a 4* hotel we were greeted well on arrival but as we looked around it is in great need of a make over it is looking very worn and tired throughout old chairs and decor, rooms clean and tidy beds made each day and towels changed, breakfast needs a lot to be desired it might be allright if you got down for it when it was fresh at 7am found the only things edibl e were cerial and fruit.evening meals looked ok but looks are very deceptive veg not hot and some not nice to eat at all.as for the bar i complained after thee days of drinking flat and foul tasting lager under strength spirits and cheap mixers all of which i found to be localy produced and cheaper but we were charged high prices the manager on hearing my complaints told me that the beer pumps are cleaned about every 2weeks which is why it tasted so foul after a few more days we could take no more of being pestered by waiters to buy another drink we drank and ate elsewhere new years eve they tried hard but trying to cater for three hundred people at once for the evening meal is nearly inpossible having to queue up for 45 minutes to be seeted and then a further 45 minutes to queue for your food plus to top it all they then could not serve any mixers or soft drinks from around 11pm

We came to Paphos for a relaxing week and to be able to enjoy the New Year with our teenage daughter. We certainly got relaxing, there was nothing to do !! Natalie, the wonderful little Russian entertainer tried hard to get everyone to join in the daytime 'sports' ( killer pool, killer darts, killer table tennis, killer french boules - you get my drift ) but everyday the same few people joined in. It got monotonous after a while and I really felt sorry for Natalie. The pool bar was never open the week we were there and for all we were 'all inclusive' we were not allowed cocktails until after 6pm even though the brochure states cocktails served all day. The snack bar served food when the main restaurants were closed but not everything on the menu was 'all inclusive', anything without an asterix had to be paid for. The evening entertainment was pathetic ( apart from the bingo) . Our big night out should have been the New Years Gala Dinner - what a joke that was !! The evening got off to a bad start when the water stopped half way through my shower ( my other half had to go out dirty). We had to queue for 45 minutes to be seated in the dining hall only to be tucked in the corner out of the way. Local Cypriots who weren't staying at the hotel were given prime seating. We then had to queue for lukewarm food (we didn't even bother to eat this). To top it all , they even missed the New Year - it was 12:05 when they celebrated! But I do have to praise Adrian and Natalie who took over the entertainment and had all the Brits up partying and we all celebrated New Year GMT time in big style !!
This hotel was clean, and on the whole the food was edible but I don't think it deserves a 4 star rating. We certainly will not be going back to the Ascos Beach Hotel.!!

I transferred to the Ascos from the Land of the Kings. The Ascos is amazing! From the moment I walked into the place I knew I would love it. It is clean and tidy, the staff were friendly and extremely helpful. Our room was lovely, which was cleaned every day, had a beautiful view of the sea from the balcony and air conditioning which was a god send as the temperatures were very high and so made sleeping so much better!

The food was amazing. Beautiful dining room where you were shown to your table and had a delicious meal every night of your choosing.

If I were to say one bad thing about this place it would be the entertainment. Whilst it didn't particularly bother me either way as we didn't watch every night and on the nights we did watch we didn't watch for long. However, I feel this lot were an absolute joke. They can't sing and definitely can't dance so why they are being sent out to humiliate themselves I do not know - maybe them humiliating themselves on a nightly basis was was the entertainment and I didn't get the joke! I think for those who go away and like to stay in and watch the entertainment this would be a real let down for them.

Overall I loved it and will definitely be going back there again - top marks for the Ascos and will definitely be trying some of their other hotels too!

Having just returned from a week half-board at the Ascos Beach hotel,I would like to make a few comments on our stay. The hotel building itself is modern and q uite well equipped. The foyer is spacious with a reception desk, souvenir shop and various comfortable chairs and sofas scattered throughout. The pool area is spacious and well laid out and the garden area is attractive. The room we stayed in was neat and tidy and a decent size with a medium sized balcony overlooking a new development of villas. The beds were uncomfortable ,sagging in the middle with poor quality pillows. The room service was quite good. The multi-channel T.V had only one english speaking channel and that was B,B,C news.Almost all the hotel guests were British but only 1 T.V channel. The bathroom was fairly well equipped but had no ventilation. The food, overall was terrible.Breakfast was not quite as bad as the evening meal. The food for the evening meal was badly prepared and cold or tepid. We ended up eating the soup with bread and the pudding. The puddings were consistently good, maybe there was one chef for the main course and another for the puddings.Overall the building and the room were pleasant and modern, maybe 4-stars but food was a let-down ,maybe 1or 2 stars, apart from the puddings, which were consistently good.

  • Liked — room was quite good
  • Disliked — uncomfortable beds

We area couple in our early 30's. We spent a week at the Ascos and loved every minute of it.

I shall split this review into 'The good bits' and 'Know before you go'.

The Good Bits...

-The pool is massive and a delight to swim in. There is a volley ball net and lots of room to find a quiet area of your own or swim until you sink!

-The entertainment offered, there is lots to do and the more you join in the more you get out of it. There is absolutely no prossure to get involved if you would rather not though.

-The hotel is beautiful. Always clean and most of the staff are friendly and helpful.

-The location is just out of the way but only a few minute walk to coral beach where there is a road full of shops, bars, restaurants and supermarkets.

-There is a bus route to Pafos if you want to go to the hussle and bustle of the main town. There is also a bus to Coral Beach, its about a 20 minute stroll if you would prefer to a lovely sandy beach. Pafos is a harbour and has no sandy beaches so this location is idea for the beach.

-The hotel grounds are beautiful. Some cute little cats live there too!

-The food is amazing! So much choice and excuisitly prepared. I put on half a stone!!

-All inclusive and no children.... bliss.

Know before you Go...

-The hotel is made up of the main block and an annex. We were in the anex which is a little walk up a slop to the hotel. If you are frail or have physical problems you may wish to request you are in the main building. It wasn't a problem for us and we appreciated the quietness of the annex when the entertainment was ongoing in the main hotel. You get told on arrival where you are but you can ask for one or the other - forewarned is forearmed!

-The entertainment staff were great but they really need to stop slagging off the hotel. For example, one of them kept saying that the PA system needed replacing and that it was the hotels fault, he even said it during the entertainment on one occasion. This is not an issue to draw guests into. The entertainment was a bit amature and it was only when the local acts came in that it seemed more professional. The Thomas Cook team did try their best with long days but a few nights it was just them providing entertainment. I think the nighttime entertainment could be improved. If it wasn't for the fact the drinks were free I think we would have gone out of the hotel most nights. Day time activities were fun and can't be criticised.

-Please can I request that women have a shred of dignity and not run around topless, sunbathing topless is fine, but its seriously vile to see some dangling swinging sagging breasts jumping around at water volleyball or walking around the pool! Topless etiquette seems to be lacking. It doesn't look good ladies! Its offensive.

-This is a relaxing holiday but has lots of entertainment, my advice is to join in. Its mostly couples and of all ages.

ENJOY!!!
