After staying at the 5 star Rhodes holiday village last time, we decided we would have two holidays for the same price this year. We chose the Akteon as it had good reviews and was well priced. My wife and i with our 17 year old daughter booked a one bed apartment with sea view.
Reception staff were friendly, courteous and helpful when we booked in.
We lowered our expectations from the 5 star but were pleasantly surprised. The accomodation was of a good standard and well cleaned. We were advised to ask for blocks 37 - 40 and were given 3712. This is an excellent apartment with brilliant sea views from both the living room and the bedroom. The apartment is well stocked with Microwave, Cooker, F/Freezer, Iron & Board. It was cleaned every day except one day and if you wanted clean towels or extra toilet rolls on the alternate day, you just asked a passing cleaner. Keep your finger crossed you have a room where the air conditioning stays on when you are out. ;-)
One small negative. If you get the choice, try and get an upstairs room as there are a few cats about. Numbers have reduced and in fairness, there have been no report of any cats going into rooms.
Absolutely fantastic. From zero at one end to 1.6m, it allows all to play safely in the large pool. The temperature was just right and very pleasureable bearing in mind the temperature was in the 40's every day of our stay.
The food is buffet style for all three meal times. There is a good selection for breakfast (although i chose not to go down most mornings). My wife and daughter always enjoyed it.
We didn't go down for lunch every day but there was always something to choose from on the buffet menu. Evening time and the dinner buffet was superb with a least 4 different hot dishes plus lots of cold salads and pasta. I found at least one dish to my liking every night without fail and i enjoyed telling the restaurant manager each night to thank his chefs.
The only negative i can say is the restaurant gets very hot, inside and out so try and sit close to the fans outside.
The staff were absolutely first class from the managers to the cleaners and i found if you said calimera (Hello) to them, they reciprocated it and remembered you all holiday. The restaurant staff were all quick to ask what drinks you wanted and to clear the plates from the table. Good hardworking staff. As for the bar staff, well i must be honest i didn't go into the bar inside the hotel much due to the lack of air conditioning. Maybe this is the area the hotel could improve on as there were a couple of ladies in their 60's who didn't want to sit by the pool bar at night but had to due to the heat inside. I spent every night outside with Gorgeous George (the wife's words) and his mate the cocktail champion. They were very friendly and efficient.
I said i didn't make breakfast most days but that was due to the bar snacks available in between breakfast/lunch and lunch/dinner. The pair who run this are the manager called Loucas and the lovely barmaid Natalya. I fully recommend the cheese omelette, although the list of snacks also includes burgers, fish fingers and toasties. A proper hardworking pair who we became firm friends with.
I have been to various hotels and holiday villages over the years but i am yet to find such a hard working and talented group. They are on the go from mid morning organising archery, water polo, volleyball, darts, boules and are still going most nights late on getting involved in the shows. They are not professional entertainers but their attitude certainly is and they produced many laugh out loud moments with The Titanic, Jackie Chan and Dirty Dancing sketches and a very good night's entertanment with the fire eating and glass walking.
Absolutely first class. Only negative is the bingo drags on a bit but as it is a multi national hotel, you have to accept the bingo numbers will be called in English, Polish, French etc and it will take time. (Don't forget to ask the guy who calls the bingo what his name is and what the boat that has run aground is about. He enjoys recalling the story) Kiki, Kinga, Bori and Atay are all great with the little uns.
I don't normally mention the management but i have to say the management team at the Akteon are probably the most pro active team i have seen. They seemed to have a good rapport with the staff and appeared to be always looking at ways of improving the service. They were very friendly and there was no sign of us and them. When the queue got a little big at times, one of the managers would join in serving behind the bar.
One of them even drew directions on a map for me to the local pharmacy. They were all a credit to The Aqua Sol Group.
Outside The Hotel.
There's a 5 minute walk to the main road where the bus stops are for Pathos and Coral Bay. It costs a euro per journey or 3 euro's for a day saver with as many journey's as you want. The wife and Daughter visited the The Tombs of the Kings and Aphrodite's Rock which were well worth seeing but take a drink with you (no kiosk's or toilets)
Finally, the criteria i always measure a holiday by is would i go back there again. I have no hesitation whatsoever to say we WILL be returing to the Akteon in the future.
Take a bow everyone.
Blocks 37 - 40 offer great views.
