“Loved it and will be back”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2011

Booked a studio apt which was large enough and the facilities were very good. We even had full sized cooker!! as well as microwave, fridge, kettle, coffee maker and very good air con which is essential. We booked b&b and couldn't fault the choices, something for everyone. Pool was a good size, plenty of sun loungers for everyone - no need to be there at 8.00am to get one. There was an indoor pool which wasn't used - due to the heat probably. Only saw one person in the fitness room again probably due to the heat.
Staff very friendly and helpful. Clean apartments in an excellent position close to everything. All in all we were very happy here and would definatey recommend a visit here. We will be back.

Very dirty rooms that smell of cigarettes. Old fashioned furniture and hard beds. Small bottle of water costs 1.90 euro ( rip off). Generally not worth staying even for free.

We stayed here for 2 weeks so just sad I'd do a list of the good and not so good points about the accommodation.
Good Points:
1. Location- really central, less than a min walk to bar street but you never here any noise at night time. Bout a 7 min walk to the beach and a huge selection of restaurants.
2. Really Big studio apt- biggest studio we've ever stayed in, very well equipped kitchen with cooker, microwave, toaster, kettle and coffee machine. The air con was no extra cost and worked really well. Plenty of wardrobe and drawer space. Bathroom was also spacious with a shower in a bath. Toilet paper was provided for the entire 2 weeks.
3. Cleaning- Apts cleaned 5 days out of 7( def not every day as some reviews suggest) with clean towels on these days.
4. Staff- the majority of the staff in the complex were really friendly and helpful.

Bad points:
1. Noisy: Apts aren't noisy at night but are extremely noisy early in the morning. A lot of families stay here and let their children head to the pool before 8am. We weren't staying near the pool but the kids made so much noise getting there and the noise carried all through the complex. We're not party animals and were in bed by 1am most nights but we're still on holidays and could have done without being woken at 8am.
2. Cleaners: It was great to have the apts cleaned most days. However the cleaners start knocking to come in about 9.30am. We arrived very early on our 1st morn, along with about 5 other groups of people- about 5.30am, after travelling since 8pm the previous day. The cleaners knocked at 9.30am- surely they didn't think we had made that much mess in 4 hours. We asked them to come back later, which they did- at 10am. For the first wk they knocked most morns between 9.30 and 10 and we always asked them to come back later. It took until the 2nd week for them to realise that we didn't leave the apt until about 11.30 and so they left the cleaning until after that.
3. Balcony- In the studio we were in our balcony was facing directly onto another wall so close that if you reached out your hand you could almost touch it. As the studio was in the central area of the complex the balcony didn't get sun at any time of the day and so we never sat out on it. I'm not sure if that's the case with all the studios but all the apts with pool, garden or street view balconies seemed to be 1 or 2 bed apts.
4. Pool- I'm not really a pool person anyway and we went to the beach most days. However one afternoon after a tour I decided to go down there for an hour. For the number of people using it at this time of the year the pool is tiny and was packed. I also had a hard time getting a bed and this was about 4.30pm. There's a big sign up that says no balls or inflatables in the pool but there's nobody monitoring this and the pool was full of them which made impossible to swim even a small distance.

Overall: This complex gives you what you pay for- don't expect any sort of luxury but it's fine if you plan on staying away from the complex most of the day. The rooms are big and spacious for when you are there.

Paphos: Paphos itself is a fabulous resort. You could go here for a month and eat somewhere different every night. We used Trip advisor to pick most of the restaurants with the best in our opinion being Gabor's, Seagull, The Moorings, Romantica and Les Amies. Most of these do set menus for 12-18 euro for 3 courses. A bottle of local wine 12-16 euro. Pint of Carlsberg/Keo 2-3 euro and Cocktails 3-5 euro.

The Sofianna is a fantastic hotel the pool area is clean and large ideal for families with the kids area and also great for couple who want to relax around the larger pool area.

The hotel rooms were large with excellent air con (stayed on while you were out of the room ideal in august)!! we only booked a studio and were very suprised at the size and good standard of the room, kitchen was fab! Had a microwave, oven, hot plate, fridge with freezer compartment and kettel. Great as we were self catering but we mainly ate out. The room was very clean and maids visited every day....at the times when the heat was just unbearable there were also some english channels on the TV, BBC 1, sky news, movies, mtv.

I don't know how anyone can complain about this place! Its clean warm friendly and comfortable. Many people we had spoken to returned year upon year!

Its in an ideal location near to bar street we went into some of the bars around but avoided the likes of linkers and flairs as unless you were under 18 they wernt great!
The hotels pub the George and Dragon was great very welcomming an dcomfortable and the house beer was great according to my boyfriend and at 2 euro you carnt argue!

Definately pop over the road to the moonlight tarverna it dosen't look much but you won't regret you will be so glad you came!! We ate the steak dianne huge portion only 9euro each and the entertaining host Chris is free with the meal! ;-)

We visited many many bars and resturants most memorable were the rose bar by the harbour great for people watching, Gratzie a super Itailian restruant (not cheap). Tea for two is cute, mare mare is lovelly and there are a range of fab greek tavernas with traditional dancing like spondas, the rock taverna and Castel. Baywatch bar is great for breakfast and a nice pint of stella. The keg and barrel, friends and splash bar all had a great atmostsphere to!! (Gaga tribute is brill)

We also went on a few trips while in paphos the glass bottom boat was a bit of a let down, the jeep safari is great in the trudos (but its hard staying in a jeep for 6 hours). The yatch trip on Ocean flyer was fab! food entertainment and fireworks diplay was well worth 50 euro a super night out (dnt be fooled that this is romantic though we went as a couple we were squeezed on to a table with many others some couples some families). But still had a great time!

Paphos was a lovelly place it had beautiful beaches heaps of history (every street we wondered down seemed to have a historical site) and a range of areas to visit at night whether you went to the fiesta centre and the harbour or bar street there was a different but still warm and friendly atmostsphere!!!

Went here with my gran and two sisters, The staff were very helpful in the reception area always there 24/7, although I found one of the maids that clean your room very fly, as she would lie on the couch and watch TV when she should have be cleaning, although every other maid was great, always cleaned the room, towels changed everyday, bedding changed every second day. Everything is on your door step, Clubs, bars, shops, restaurants, bars, beach and a harbour which is only a 5 min walk. All the people are very friendly although found it very dear, stayed there for two weeks and the weather was fantastic would definitely go back to Kato Paphos, the night life was amazing if you are young. We stayed in a pool view room the pool is a brilliant pool which is nice and cool and is massive sunlougers are always there for you plenty of them, the bar is very dear payed nearly 11 euro for two glasses of cola. Music by the pool is on sometimes

Room Tip: a pool view room

Booked at the last minute and didn't really expect that much so we were pleasantly surprised by our studio appt. Ok it was not really modern but it was clean and functional. We do cook on holiday and found the kitchen area in the studio a little strange as you could not stand in front of the sink as the cooker was in the way. Had to adapt to washing dishes in the sink whilst standing at an angle! A minor niggle and not anything to bother about. Air con was excellent and was needed as the temperature was soaring into the 40's. Maid service was excellent, clean towels most days and all bins etc emptied. Pool area was spacious and in 1st week no one was really reserving sunbeds, however in the 2nd week as it got busier the towels came out! We tended to spend mornings only at the pool due to the heat,. There are quite a few restaurants near to hotel/appts - we liked Grazie ( an italian restaurant) and had a couple of very nice meals there. No end of choice down at the front of places to eat and generally pretty reasonable. I know its probably dearer than Spain but certainly less expensive than when we've visited the french riviera. There were a lot of exchange places in resort, most offering the same amount ( 1.11 last week) There's a large supermarket opp Debehams ( street behind front) and it has everything that you could need. Lots of UK products too. Hotel shows films on channel 2 every day and we found these to be pretty good, also had sky news and bbc 1 plus a movie channel. In all we had a very good holiday at these appartments and would not hesitate to recommend them.

Room Tip: pool view good but may be noisy in high season?

Had a great stay at the Sofianna, excellent large room (air con included in price), with nice balcony (morning rather than afternoon sun only minus) & a pool view. Hotel in a great location, walking distance (5 - 10 minutes) to all bars restaurants in central Paphos. A lot of good friendly pubs/bars nearby including 1 right on the doorstep (George & Dragon) and some of the livelier venue less than 5 minutes away. Lovely restaurant 30 seconds from door on the corner, adertised as an Italian but the Cypriot dishes are excellent (Kelftiko in particular). Hotel was quiet in the evenings, pool area always had room and sunbeds available during the day. The bar in the hotel was hardly used by anyone (due to prices) but not an issue due to location of hotel.
Paphos was considerably cheaper than we expected, many of the restaurants were offering 3 courses for 10 - 12 euros a head, drinks were mostly cheap (a few places excepted), found plenty of bars offering lager for under £2 a pint a cider for under £3 and most places offering cocktails for a bargin price.
Bar street was a strange mix of deserted (unopened and/or for sale) bars and the usual raucous chaos of a med bar st. Obviously a lot of bars are struggling for custom, it must be very tough on them but a bonus for those of us on a budget.
Cleaning staff very understanding of those of us who utilise the night hours more fully than the morning, can`t comment on other staff as other than checking in, which was quick & friendly, we didn`t have any reason to contact them.
all in all a very nice hotel in great location.
cheers
