We have just returned from a 2 week break at the Louis Ledra. Well I think we may have been in a completely different hotel to quite a few people on here because this hotel was nothing but a dissapointment! After reading the reviews we were so looking forward to going....first impressions were good.We were greeted with champayne and cakes and our suitcases were brought to the room. The room was ok and quite clean but we were placed in a basement room which had no view apart from the kids club (a small, hot shack like building). We then discovered the majority of the family's with children were placed in the basement which I suppose is not a great issue but when you have nothing but screaming, crying children and parents who are shouting and whistling at 7am in the morning then its not the best.
Yes the food was varied and plentiful but the quality was very average.Im sure the chef's were playing a 'what will the brits eat today' game...fishy roast potatoes, cod in a sauce which can be best described as tasting like rice pudding, trays of pizza (and other items)which were put out no matter how burnt they were, salad containing lots of flies and desserts which you could not quite tell what they contained. The drinks on another note were shocking! Im so suprised, as us Brits are known for liking a beer or two, that people were happy with the quality of them. The fizzy pop (cola, diet cola, etc) just tasted like alka seltzer, the red and white wine came off a pump so most of the time tasted weird and the lager...well what can I say...you were very lucky if you had a decent one...full of gas...just tasted watered down. The impression we got from the hotel was that us Brits will drink any old rubbish so why bother...well it was certainly the case.
Cleanliness in the hotel was average- the maid did come in every day to change the towels and make the beds. Not too sure what they did apart from that. The floors and bathroom were still dirty. The pillows were hard and our blankets were basically falling apart. the air conditioning worked but you could only really feel it if you were stood in the stream of it.The hotel and pools were ok but there were still tables that hadnt been cleaned, the lobby carpets were full of bits, the restaurant (or canteen as it felt) floor was dirty. (just happened to notice, when the red carpet was rolled out for a wedding one day, that it was also stained and full of bits- couldnt someone just give it a quick hoover for someones special day?). The pool toilets, we found, most of the time were smelly, dirty and wet. My husband had an experience in there, lets just say with overflowing and bubbling urinals, which if you heard the full story would make you feel physically sick!
Another thing, there was at least 2 or 3 weddings nearly every day whilst we stayed there. When i read the negative reviews regarding this I did originally think well whats the problem with that....that its until you are experiencing it. It meant there was large groups of people congregating everywhere around the hotel and pools therefore it meant straight away you were outnumbered. It only takes 1 person out of a group of 20 to put towels out for everyone; the veranda areas were just taken up by large rowdy groups of people; the restaurant area would just turn into one mass feeding frenzy. you were always against the masses at some point- not relaxing at all.
Now moving onto a major positive and probably the reason why so many people had a lovely time....they carry the hotel...the entertainment team!!! The team consists of Luci (team manager), Costin, Andrei, Genna, Audrey and Elle (kids club). If it was not for these guys we would not have enjoyed our 2 week break as much as we did and would have maybe asked for a tranfer. My son has a disability and each and every one of them went out of their way to make him feel extra special. They worked so hard and every day you would still see them laughing, joking and having fun. They always had the time to chat to you and make a special effort to encourage you to play in the games. Their enthusiasm was infectious....now i dont ever take part in anything whilst im away but they make you feel very comfortable and it was the least i could do. The only downside is that their shows are performed outside in the ampitheatre. This consists of rows of chairs which incline towards the stage. It doesnt really help when you want to have a chat with others....it was also full of bugs..flying and crawling...so take insect repellent! There was also a real trek to the bar so we spent the night taking it in turns so that we didnt miss any of the shows. Why they couldnt put a waiter down there to take orders was beyond me.
We have stayed in much better 4 star hotels (and for cheaper) who do not hesitate to offer the little extras to make it feel worthy of spending £3500! It just felt like everything was done to make do and on the cheap.
