“Great location”

I went here with 3 girlfriends and we had booked a 2-bed apartment to give us plenty of space. We were delighted to be given a 3-bed apt (wasn't even advertised in the brochure) which looked like it hadn't ever been used before. Great kitchen with loads of equipment and dishwasher!!! 2 bathrooms and an extra toilet and huge bedrooms. Ask for the Penelope block - it does seem that different blocks have different standards. Pool was nice but not a huge amount of sunloungers - especially limited when the other Brits feel the need to reserve them at all times, even when they appear to be out for the day!!! Located right by the harbour and also Bar Street so saved the cost of bus/taxi. Overall a nice resort with a good mix of visitors - not many loud or lairy groups which suited us fine.

Okay so it wasn't bad but equally it didn't look like any of the photos in the official literature nor in some of the 2008 travel brochures, they're either using artistic licence or an airbrush! So what of the accomodation, well all the rooms appear to be air conditioned which is a blessing when the heat never drops below 40 during the day and not much below 30 at night, they're clean and fairly well appointed, that said the hotel is spilt into two distinct parts one of the which, the Harbour Suites, are much newer and far better kitted out than the older parts. The pool is big and clean and there are plenty on sunbeds, be warned you need an early riser in your party to secure one though. The Basilica operates a policy of not allowing personal drinks and food around the pool area, obviously these can be bought from the hotel, however if you're local or Russian these rules appear not to apply. If you're after a vibrant night life then the Basilica isn't for you the bar was all but deserted during the evening only being frequented by a few people on their way back from the resort at around 22:30/23:00. They try and have a few themed nights during the week, Saturday night is Kareoke, albeit the lack of people in the bar area meant that the on site "entertainer" (more of her later) spent most of the evening "singing" by herself. Equally though if you've got a young familly and want to get them to bed early then unless you're in the Harbour Suites or away from the bar area you're unlikely to get much peace and quiet either, while the bar is empty most of the evening the bar staff do still like to play the music pretty loud...no doubt to keep them awake and alleviate the boredom! So what of the on site "entertainer" firstly she can't sing, secondly her idea of entertainment is to turn up, turn on loud music and disappear, when she does reappear it seems to be with some young "rent a crowd" from other more vibrant hotels to add some spice to proceedings...if you're idea of mid afternoon aqua aerobics is having the pool taken over by a group of rowdy twentysomethings then this is for you...just bear in mind the young children who are worried to go into the pool while this is going on. The remainder of the staff are efficient, I wouldn't go as far as to say they are polite and friendly though. And what of Paphos? Well if you haven't been for 10/15 years then you're in for a shock, pubs serving mixed grills, chicken and chips and all day breakfasts abound if you're after traditional greek food then try the harbour it's a bit more expensive and it is very busy but at least there's a sense you're on holiday abroad rather than a feeling that you're on the East or West coast of England as is the case in the rest of the resort. What ever you do though whether male or female 18 or 80 is try the local brew, Keo, ice cold straight from the bottle it has to be one of the best beers anywhere in the world.

hi
we have just spent a week here 2 adults and 3 teenager girls (16 yrs), they did try to put us in a grotty room right at the back of
the complex, this would have been very dark for our teenage girls,
and we had asked for a pool view.
after digging our heels in we were placed in a 3 bedded room in the penelope suites ( not with pool view), but did have 3 loos 2 bathrooms and 3 bedrooms dishwasher TV and was very modern, was not being used so didnt see why we were given the grotty one inthe first place.
First choice rep was a bit miserable and did not seem very enthusastice about Cyprus so dont be put of by her.
the lady at reception was lovely, the pool was clean and bar nice.
The resort has evrything nice harbour and beaches within walking distance, but its worth a ride to coral beach, the nearby water park is fun.
If you dont want THE BUZZ OF BAR STREET, dont go up there its hard to walk away as lots of PR people, and be warned the teenagers get served under age!
Overall its a fab resort with nothing to complain about it has all you need.

when we arrived at our room (note- we had to take up our own cases.... snobbery you think? no, i mean we had to drag them up three flights of stairs, our block had no lift.) and we were then greeted by several cockroaches during our stay.

the basilica gardens is v.old and we had paid quite a lot for the room as i went along with my parents for a fortnight, and needed my own room. therefore we had one of the better rooms in the block which looked out onto the pool but even our room wasnt amazing and wasnt cleaned very well or even very often!!

the people at reception are atrocious to talk to and very rude. there is no form of entertainment and the only bar has a very quiet barman so there is no rapport there at all.

I actually had quite a good holiday, i'm 18 and managed to find some people to go on the town with but the hotel itself, if u want a good holiday find somewhere better. the location is odd...its not far from the restaurants and the sea (also note, there is no real beach, it is stony and VERY small, beach is probably the wrong word). BUT it is just not a nice place to relax. We were also greeted by the building work across the road which wasnt noisy but now i imagine it is finished, there will be a super-marker just at the front, somewhat like tesco.
would have been nice to cook something, but cockroaches put you off slightly.

“basillica not brilliant”

Basilica Holiday Resort

We stayed at the basillica apartments in june 2007. It certainly doesent live upto the the brochure! The decor was very tired and could be doing with a makeover. We booked a seaview and was told when we arrived that they were informed that the rooms have no seaviews!. They are mostly all inland views looking onto other balconys with not much privacy at all. The restraunt was a bit of a joke. we had no air conditioning for the first 5 days due to a faulty part, so as a good will gesture we had a free meal in the resturaunt. Iam so glad we didnt pay! the food was totally inedible. ther menue stated it was Al a carte, but found chicken nuggets fish fingers on it!
I would return to these apartments as they are in a central location, but only if they refurbished them and sacked the chef!

Paphos is such a lovely vibrant place and will certainly return.
the best place to eat was an italian/greek restruant called palermos which is situated up in bar street. on the corner opposite zorbas pub and the fountain. the food was delicious and definitely the best we had eaten for the two weeks we were there. Try it and you will not be dissapointed.
