“The Gem that Cyprus has to be proud of!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2012

The Thalassa Boutique Hotel recently joined Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH) and this is where I spent the last 3 nights of my trip in Cyprus this time. From the moment you step in you are made welcomed by the amazing professional staff whose main aim is to make every guest stay as stress-free as possible. The word Thalassa means sea in Greek and the hotel is situated at the most beautiful spot on a peninsula overlooking Coral Bay. It is the hotel that I found no fault with anything and pays great attention to details.
I had the elegantly decorated double sea-view suite on the 6th floor #603. The king size comfortable bed was nicely decorated with pillows of different shapes and colour matching with the rest of the décor. There were two bathrooms one in each room, a nice comfortable sitting room, 2 sets of satellite TV, a DVD system, mini bar and a coffee machine. In all it included everything one could dream of for amazing holidays. The highlight of the suite was the Coral Bay view that shimmers through the huge windows adding splashes of green and blue to the natural hues of the room. The wide balcony was like an oasis capturing the sea and sky with the sunrise in the morning that made me rise up much earlier than normal to capture the stunning view as the sun was rising slowly up in the sky. I would stand out at the balcony early each morning just to watch the fabulous sunrise. The view was dazzling all day long!
The two full marble bathrooms of the suite were big and nicely decorated with straw baskets with fresh and bright white towels. Toiletries are ample and addition to the usual ones there is a loofah pad, a razor set, and a dental kit. The lotion and conditioner are the Italian products of Palais Jamis Etro. The aromatic soaps provided are of excellent quality and include vegetable oils.
The services provided combine the ultimate relaxation and I will start with breakfast. The weather was beautiful so breakfast was taken outside at the Ambrosia porch opposite the garden and pool. Everything on the buffet is of excellent quality and taste with the finest presentation. Impeccable service with smiling young staff in uniform alert the whole time to meet the needs of the guests. There are delicacies scarcely to be found in other hotels and again attention is paid to detail. Boiled bright white linen table clothes are changed every time somebody else comes to the tables. Tea and freshly brewed coffee are served in either fine porcelain teapots or silver ones. Juices are all fresh and there are a number of smoothies to accompany tea or coffee. Finally one can find the rarest fruit like passion fruit, mango, kiwi, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, bananas and any other fruit you can imagine. Excellent quality of champagne is served upon request at breakfast as well.
I am a person who skips lunch so I did not bother going to any restaurant other than the Ambrosia. Textures, colours, aromas and culinary arrangements, -a feast to the eyes are what one can experience here. I urge guests to taste the Hot Seafood Platter which is not to be missed! I avoid meat and here I tasted some of the most amazing and distinctive seafood cuisine I have ever had.

I spent several hours at the Anagenisis Spa the other gem of the hotel. I used a lot the Jacuzzi, the Steam room, the Sauna and the indoor pool especially the first day when it was cold to get to the beach. I had a vitalizing and regenerating vinotherapy facial treatment by Litsa my therapist whose hands were so gentle. The Spa uses the Babor products and there are several packages of wellness therapies in good value of money. The treatments are so many that you truly don’t know which to choose.
I enjoyed the crystal clear waters of the sandy bay and spent 2 afternoons out there swimming. Just a few metres from the hotel there is the Mycenean settlement called Palaiocastro Maa not to be missed. It dates back to 1250 BC. It is very interesting although it is not highlighted as it should have been. There is a bus stop a few metres from the hotel (bus #615) that takes you to the bus station of Limanaki next to the Castle and the centre of Paphos. The Tombs of the Kings are also very close to the hotel and the interesting village of Lemba is another nice alternative and place of interest to visit. Don’t miss the Baths of Adonis but you need to have a private car to get there and take along your bathing suits or you can dive naked in the waters if you wish. Walking trails, an excursion to the Akamas, are a few of the many other alternatives to be experienced when in this area.
I found here the highest standards of quality, the best gourmet and Spa escapes in an ideal location and the most amazing and professional staff. Thalassa is a real Gem that Cyprus has to be proud of! Erini, Nico, George, Litsa are some of the staff that I truly want to thank but I can tell that all the rest were just as good but I happen to miss their names now. I highly recommend it and long to return.

Room Tip: Ask for either a room with a sunset or sunrise view!

We are 5 days into a fabulous stay at the Thalassa, we are unable to find fault with anything at this hotel and we have travelled the world and spent time in many hotels that purport to rank higher. The staff are friendly, professional and clearly enjoy working here taking personal pride in making your stay an enjoyable one. The rooms are lovely, we are staying in a sunset room overlooking Coral Bay it is clean, beautifully equipped with some lovely bathroom goodies. It is spacious with plenty of storage for your clothes etc. The location is perfect for exploring the area. I personally fail to understand how anyone can fault this hotel and note that the person who only gave it 1star a few months ago was unspecific and can only think it was written by a disgruntled competitor!! I would be happy to share any tips with anyone planning a visit here and can be contacted on skybus@dircon.co.uk if anyone has any questions.

Room Tip: All rooms are good so if you are on a budget have no fear but if you can afford to go for a luxuriou...

Wow, great stay, staff very helpful and friendly. The food either at the hotel or the restaurant next door was stunning. They had a great range of facilities in the spa apart fom the treatments, free to use for residents was femal or male only saunas, a large jacuzzi bath, and the steamiest steam room I've been in. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. Enjoy.

just returned from a week in the Thalassa and had the perfect holiday. This is definitely a five star hotel and the attention to detail is outstanding. Our room was on the seventh floor with a sunset view and was brilliant although the balcony was a little windy at times. The room was spacious with the most comfortable bed (hard to get out of in the morning). The bathroom was very nice with fluffy white towels and gorgeous toiletries. The breakfast was amazing and sitting on the terrace overlooking the pool and the bay beyond was very relaxing. The staff were very attentive and there was lots of choices of hot and cold food with champagne if you wanted it. The sunbeds were very comfortable and were always available - the fruit kebabs which were brought by Miro were a nice touch. Didn't use the hotel restaurants but found very nice ones only a short walk away. Would definitely return to this hotel and would recommend it for a stress free holiday.

Room Tip: Sunset room very nice on floor seven. No noise from car park.

Took my wife here for a short break. We had a suite with seaviews which was exceptionally comfortable and well equipped including a bathroom each! The bed was so comfortable it was difficult to wake up. Ate in the hotel restaurant both nights and the food was excellent. The staff were very friendly and couldn't have been more helpful, in fact they went out fo their way to help. Spa was great and although cold as early in the year the pool and garden are both immaculate. Great location overlooking Coral Bay and plenty to do in the area, I recommend a walk up the Akamas Gorge - very dramatic.

Room Tip: Try to get a seaview suite as they all have a view of Coral Bay whereas rooms on the other side main...

This was a third visit to the Thalassa, and as I said in my 1st visit review having previously visited the neighbouring Coral Beach prior to its slow, inexorable decline into three star mediocrity, this remains a beacon of excellence.

The hotel is situated on a peninsula in a quiet location with either side of the hotel facing sunrise or sunset – go for the latter as the views over the bay are pleasant and not interrupted by the older Coral Beach Hotel and noise from the garbage collection nearby the neighbouring restaurant. From the outside, however, especially from a distance, it looks distinctly unimpressive... however, once inside, it reveals its true quality. The hotel itself has a peaceful and relaxing ambience, the fact that children are generally discouraged being a big part of that, is spotlessly clean and the bedrooms are nicely appointed without clutter – they were actually designed as interconnecting rooms and have been made into bedroom and separate living room with two bathrooms which is always a bonus. The pool area is neat, tidy and excellently located for views of the surrounding area and well designed as a sun trap for the sunbed-inclined, with a nice beach bar on a lower level and stairway access to the sea. The Spa is quite expensive but you get what you pay for, which is all one can really expect.

The surrounding area itself is okayish - a typically Cypriot mixture of villas, desolation, tipped rubbish and tourist establishments, about 10 minutes walk up a hill can be found Coral Plaza where there are restaurants and bars. It's rather tacky but not bad. I recommend Trattoria La Vigna, and warn the discerning eater off the Tex Mex thing opposite - Rio Grand IIRC -- abysmal.

Back inside the Thalassa, the breakfasts were generally excellent, with a good choice – though surprisingly lacking low-fat yoghurt. We had yet another superb meal at the Psari fish restaurant, which I’d not been too impressed with on our first visit but had been splendid thereafter. The Ambrosia restaurant is also decent, albeit costly - not unsurprising for a five-star, I grant you, but if you're able to do so, book some nights Half Board direct with the hotel before you go - it's cheaper. The menu is not hugely extensive but the food is extremely good.

Our overall vacation experiences at the Thalassa have always been that the staff are very agreeable and helpful, particularly Ewan on the front desk who’s efficient and personable and Pambos Michael, The Manager who's always been willing to address any issues swiftly and positively

Room Tip: The hotel is situated on a peninsula in a quiet location with either side of the hotel facing sunris...

Having spent a week here we are at a loss as to how people can rate this as 5 star. Some reviews leave us feeling rather suspicious. This is by far the worst hotel we have stayed at during our holidays to cyprus. The other (superior) hotels include The Annabelle, although this is aging now, Paphos Amathus Beach Hotel and the Intercontinental Hotel. We have also heard from friends that the Elysium Hotel is extremely good.

We were duped by the Boutique Small Luxury Hotel title and the impression this gave.

We are by no means wealthy and work hard to be able to afford a couple of weeks in a 5 star hotel and look forward to staying in one. This isn't one. We personally feel robbed of our hard earned money. However, the allure of customers money must be too great for them (the hotel owners) to have any conscience.

We love cyprus, and although we will return to this beautiful island we would never go back to this disgrace of a 5 star hotel.

Room Tip: don't go here if you are wanting 5 star
