“Pretty good experience”

Cynthiana Beach Hotel

I'd recommend the Cynthiana as long as you have realistic standards and expectations. It is a 3 star hotel and doesn't get any where near matching the style of the Azia or Annabelle - but's it's prices are nowhere near either. And it is much better than the Queens Bay in my view.

I think it makes a big difference whether you're in the new Olympian Wing with its own pool, breakfast and bar area or in the main hotel. We stayed at the same time as the Slovakian rugby team but were insulated from any hubbub - of which there was very little - by being at the far end of the grounds.

Inland looking rooms do get road noise - particularly at 7am when the Cypriots commute into Paphos.

The bar furniture is rather G-plan and the entertainment was a bit 'Green Spanish Eyes' for our tastes. If you want a knees -up go next door to the Pafian Sun Village or even the Queeens Bay. It does have two very good Taverna style restaurants very close by which I prefer to the rather institutionalised dinging room. But would we go back? - definitely yes. We really enjoyed our stay.

“fine for a week in the sun”

Cynthiana Beach Hotel

After reading the reviews we decided to go ahead and book a very late deal at this hotel. Some reviews were poor but overall we thought it seemed OK. We had a superior room in the Olympian wing on a B&B basis, overlooking the pool/sea. The bedroom was large and clean as was the bathroom and balcony. Lovely sunset views over the sea.
Mention has been made of the food, and it is true that the breakfast is OK, but nothing special, and don't expect UK bacon/sausages. Having said that the management seem to be trying as they are introducing fresh fruit.
We found all the staff friendly and very helpful and we had clean sheets/towels every day.
The hotel is situated on a promentary between Paphos and Coral Bay. A lovely location for soaking up the sun and if you want quiet you can always find a peaceful spot in the grounds.
There are two tavernas nearby - the Doria is the better, but if it gets busy service goes out the window and you can be waiting a long (and I mean LONG) time for your food. A better bet may be to walk up the hill (moderate incline - 10 minutes) and get the 80c bus ride into Coral Bay or Paphos where there are far more restaurants. It is also worth that walk to buy the 45c water at the supermarket rather than at 95c in the hotel.
There is some building work commencing and we would recommend anyone going to book a sea view and get a fridge.
So, in summary, we enjoyed our week there and met people who had been going back for 13/20/26 years !!

“Cynthiana is a splendid hotel”

We stayed at the Cynthiana for two weeks in August, and we had a very nice time. There are two swimming pools, two restaurants, a beach bar and wine bar / entertainment area. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Quite a few Cypriots and Greeks stay at this hotel, but the majority are British, which may or may not be an advantage! Overall, we had a lovely time, the weather was very warm, early / mid thirties, and we couldn't have asked for more. The rooms aren't huge, but adequate, and the TV reception was mostly poor, except for Cypriot channels, which often show English and American shows with Greek subtitles anyway. I would recommend this hotel for its amazing views, and the convenient location of two very good Tavernas; Doria and Tsiakkis. The views are better from the former, as is the service, although the food and entertainment are better from the latter.

“Very Relaxing Stay”

Just got back from a 2 week stay at the Cynthiana and enjoyed every day. The room was pretty basic but clean with a fantastic view. I can pretty much agree with other recent reviews and don't really have a bad thing to say (although the hotel shop does not sell chilled water - walk to the shop 200m away, it's cold and half the price). We hired a car for 4 days (from Petsas - cheaper than hotel or Thomson recommended companies), visited some beaches around the island and spent a day in the mountains. Other than that we spent most days lounging in the gardens - swimming in the lagoon and sea. The pool was pretty crowded with quite a few children but there were plenty of quieter spots. Took the bus into Coral Bay and Paphos and would recommend the Indian restaurant in Coral bay - the Keraram which is past the beach. In fact the only poor (and most expensive) meal we had was at the Captain's Bay restaurant in Pissouri. There's only a couple of bars/restaurants within walking distance of the hotel so if you want lots of bars/clubs close by then stay near the harbour in Paphos. If you're after a nice relaxing stay somewhere then I definitely recommend the Cynthiana.
