If you are going to the Pafian Sun Village you are gonna have a fabulous time, I am sure! It's not what I am used to as a 4-star resort, by a long way BUT it is good in a different way.(I've been to very luxurious AI 4/5-star in Carribean and I work in tourism, so I am hard to please!) It's not too big, but not small either..and there is a tremedous atmosphere! I have been allover the place but never have I found such a friendly hotel.
The 'amination team' is provided by Thomas Cook and is basically 2 girls and 2 lads, Laura, Theresa (I think), Ben and Mark and they are brilliant. I'm 36 and my fella is 41 and we didn't have kids with us and yet we found ourselves joining in with some of the 'corny' games like Bingo and water polo. They also put on a great show at night .. Saturday's Wizard of Oz at the Movies was brilliant.
Anyone who is a bit of a snob would probably not 'get it' but if you accept the place for what it is and just decide to enjoy yourselves you will. We didn't want to leave and would definately go back. It's a great place for couples, families and groups.
Few tips:
* Make sure you take a bottle of water for when you get there (especially if it's a night flight). We arrived about 1am and there was nothing to drink anywhere.
* Don't buy stuff from the onsite Mini-Market, there is a supermarket right across the road and it's much cheaper. You would be wise to buy a six-pack of litre bottles of water to kee in your fridge. You can only get glasses of water from the bar and to buy a small bottle from the bar is quite expensive.
* There's a fridge in the room so if you like a drink in the evening, again, pop across to the Supermarket..a bottle of vodka is about a fiver.
* Whatever you have been told by your agent, the air conditioning is not included and is at an extra charge. If you have a one bedroom apartment there are 2 units to pay for and with the safety deposit box as well it came to £40 .. but it was worth it.
* The A La Carte restaraunt is chargeable (you get £3.50 off the menu price) but don't worry. The food in the buffet is excellent and no one even bothers with the a la carte.
* take a pack of cards
* If you fancy a trip out, there are two Jeep Safari day's - we opted for the one that goes to the Akamas Peninsula, but some of the people on our trip had done both and said that the Troodos Mountains one was much better.
* there is a little secluded bay, head for the sea past the pool, turn right and follow the path past the hotel next door. It's about a five/ten minute stroll and well worth it.. not a place for sunbathing but great for snorkling..fishies!
