If this had been our first stay at Paphos Gardens the following review would be quite a bit different. However, when we stayed here in September 2011 the hotel staff told us that it was closing in October for refurbishment. The following summer the hotel website stated that a refurb had happened - we would like to know what exactly they refurbished? The pools have tiles missing, the jets in the Jacuzzi's don't work, the filtration systems are not working properly, the towels (if you get them) are full of holes etc etc. The resort has the general impression of being run down which is such a shame as the gardens are beautiful and the staff are mainly fantastic. Michaela on the main bar and Nicoletta at the pool bar in particular. Both of our trips here were on an all inclusive basis, the first time we could get food and drink at all three bars and hotdogs, chips etc were available for snacks. This has now changed, all inclusive guests can only get food and drink from the main restaurant and have to pay for chips & hotdogs. Snacks now consist of salad and cheese & ham sandwiches on bread which curls in the heat.
We paid to upgrade this time because the apartment we stayed in previously was poor, so they placed us in the main hotel. This was ok but there is no fridge in the room, which we think is poor.
The main reason that we opted to return to Paphos Gardens was the food, in 2011 the food was great but not any more. Nearly everyone we spoke to was complaining about the terrible food, there was a good choice but it was the same type of thing day in, day out and it all tasted bad. The salads are good but we don't go on holiday to eat salad every day!
We don't regret returning to this hotel because we would have always wondered what they had done but we will definitely not go back for a third visit!
