“superb, relaxing, comfortable with friendly and professional staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2009

From start to finish this holiday held up to all our expectations without fault. Our personal needs for room accommodation were obligingly catered for without any extra cost to us. The room services and housekeeping were excellent. Very clean and comfortable with new towels for the room and the pool every day. Efficient and professional hotel infrastructure. Went half board due to location being out of the main town. The food was very well presented with plenty of choice. Lovely restaurant surroundings and very helpful staff, always smiling and interacting with guests. Plenty of sunbeds and parasols (no need of early rising to reserve!!) Hotel absorbs large amount of guests very well. Popular wedding venue. Usually Mondays but we enjoyed watching so didn't bother us. Superb choice of pools. Kept clean and tidy. Cooler indoor pool for relief from sun. Do treat yourself to the spa. The massage was heavenly especially for timeout from being a mother of 3 teenage girls. My only groan was the evening entertainment. Although the hotel were using the services of an entertainments agency and provided entertainment every night, in my opinion, it was of a very poor standard except for saturday nights (singer and vegas dancers) However, they too had very limited space to provide any kind of cabaret show. It is a short bus ride into paphos harbour for 1.50 each. Taxi costs for the 4 of us were also very reasonable. Agree your price before the journey. The water sports are plenty but a little pricey around the hotel area. Not much evidence of the more traditional greek culture remaining tho since visiting some 30 years ago. Did not find any plate smashing anywhere due to health and safety!! (kill joys) Do try the underwater sea walking, a great and new experience for anyone, even if you have physical disabilities. Wonderful team of guys helped my daughter who has cerebral palsy to be fully inluded with this trip and experience. Thanks guys the experience will live with her forever. Forget the inflight meals, they were disgusting, Although booking through Thompson we were on a First Choice flight and the cabin crew were far from caring. My teenage daughter was taken ill on our return flight. For a blanket I had to buy their comfort pack!!! and due to regulations you have to dispose of your own sick bags! so dont travel alone is my advice. Not very caring at all was our experience. Thankfully my daughter was cared for on our arrival at casualty in the UK.

We stayed at the Athena Beach for one week from the 1st of July 2009. First impressions were good with the impressive reception area and the staff being friendly and helpful, providing us with a free lunch voucher to compensate for our arrival time being after dinner service.
The room was large and very clean (it stayed this way too, with changed bed sheets and towels daily) plenty of storage space. After settling in we went for a look around and were slightly concerned that most of the other guests seemed to be of retirement age, but as the week went on more familes and other young groups moved in (probably due to school holidays).
There were an abundance of sun beds throughout the day so no getting up at the crack of dawn. The pool area was always clean and tidy with a variety of views, have to say the beach wasn't up to much although plenty of people seemed to enjoy it.
Breakfast served just about anything you could think of, the food wasn't fantastic but we were upgraded to half board by our travel agents and ate out every night anyway.
It was my birthday whilst we were there and a card had been written for me at reception and on our arrival back at our room, balloons and streamers were on the door and a fruit platter and a bottle of wine left for me. This wasnt prompted by my boyfriend and i was thrilled the staff took that much notice!!
Its about a 20min walk to the harbour, but a nice walk and taxi back is only 8 euros. If you feel like staying local i would really recommend the chinese restaurant across the road from the hotel.
Brilliant holiday Athena Beach is well worth a visit!!

Couldnt fault the hotel & staff one bit, didnt want to leave at the end of the 2 weeks.

The hotel was clean & tidy, we never had problems with looking for a sun bed as there is plent to go around, we went at the busiest time which was easter and school holidays.

The drinks are expensive in the hotel bar which is the only downside, but we found the local supermarket and was sitting on the balcony over looking the beach and relaxing that way.

Would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to relax. We would go back again if the price was right.

We have recently returned from Athena Beach. The rooms on arrival were extremely disapointing and the only view from our window was a car park and a pink wall. We requested a change and had to wait from Tuesday to Saturday. The second rooms were not much better, although we did have a slight sea view... I contracted acute gastroenteritis and had to be taken to hospital. Upon return, having been given a diet sheet, I was told to give it to reception and they would pass it on to the Restaurant staff. I was greeted by, Well it is a buffet and there will be something there you can eat. Well, ther wasn't. I had three brussel sprouts, two carrots and a slice of chicken. I was also told I could eat bananas. This was a major problem, as the hotel did not have any. So we had to go out for a meal. The Reception staff were not really helpful, but Customer Relations left fruit and wine in my room.
The children were not allowed to play with balls or lilos in the pool which was patrolled by an officious pool attendant,. Maybe it would be an idea to let children have a happy hour where they can play with toys etc in the pool. Many guests were upset by this. It should be stated in brochures if this is the case. We also felt that the swimming pool was not clean and walking around the edge, proved to be dangerous on more than one occassion. Entertainment was pathetic, with a few old haz beens singing on some nights and three less than talented dancers. The dining room was too hot in the evenings and there seemed to be an aversion to letting people eat outside. Maid service was less than good in the first rooms we had, but the second rooms were cleaned extremely well. This hotel was a huge disappointment and we would not recommend it or return.

Stayed at Athena Beach for two weeks on our honeymoon. We were upgraded to full seaview, bottle of champagne and fruit on arrival and balloons and banner on door which was a lovely touch. It was lovely to get room service when we arrived at one in the morning! Pool area and beach fab loads of sun loungers no need to get up early, no matter what time of day you get up you will find a bed. The outdoor jucuzzi is lovely so relaxing! Fab weather not too hot and great breeze. Weddings almost very day but they dont interfere with the hotel guests and are nice to watch. Stayed B&B good selection of food something for everyone. Drink and food in hotel very expensive so we ate out every evening. Lovely staff very helpful. Towels changed everyday. Great to have use of the fridge in the room also. Would recommend The Rib Shack restaurant which is about 5 mins walk to the left when you leave the hotel also Fat Mamas on Kings Road has to be tried out the food is amazing huge portions and great selection. The staff sing and dance also which is great to watch while you eat! The bus you get from outside the hotel goes to Kings Road we made the mistake of getting out at the harbour one night and getting a taxi from there to Kings Road and it cost another €8. Wouldn't recommend the restaurants across the road from the hotel the Italian very expensive and small portions, the chinese isn't bad but also expensive for what you get. Fiesta bar which is 5 mins walk on the right hand side of the road is a lovely bar, happy hour all night great staff and food good too. Nice breakfast for €3.95 when we got sick of eating in hotel every morning! Did the wavedancer sunset cruise which was lovely and with a romantic bottle of champagne and finger food also band played. Paphos isnt good for shopping again expensive and the same shops as home Next and Marks and Spencers. I would recommend hiring a car we did this and went to Aphrodites rock and baths beautiful place clear blue water, rocky beach though. Overall I would highly recommend the Athean Beach Hotel for honeymoon was the most relaxing holiday we have ever been on.

3rd time at Athena Beach. Again, we weren't disappointed. Booked BB but free upgrade to half board for guests arriving between certain dates. Great selection of food breakfast and evening. You would have to be extremely fussy if you couldn't find something to enjoy here! Staff will go out of their way to assist you, all very pleasant and accommodating. Plenty of room around pool areas / grass and beach areas - no need to get up early to get sun beds. Wine and fruit left in room free of charge. Rooms very comfortable and spacious. Clean towels every day. I can't understand people who say it is not worthy of a 4* other than they must have had a one off bad experience. All in all a very enjoyable holiday and would definately return again.

As always, I used Trip Advisor to read reviews of the Athena Beach Hotel before my hols and was slightly concerned by some of the negative comments. Not to worry though, I can assure anyone who is going here that the hotel is definitely of a 4* Standard. The reception staff, cleaners, bar staff etc.. could not be more helpful and the hotel itself is large, clean and airy. Nice touches too include Tea & Coffee facilities in the room as well as your own large fridge that you can fill with whatever you please (Not just the normal rip-off Mini Bar). The Athena's pool area is very large and there is a choice of pools with no shortage of sun loungers either around the pool, on the grassed area to the back or even on the Sandy Beach behind. Meals in this hotel are generally buffet-style but the choice is enormous and you would really struggle not to find something that you did not like... the same goes for beakfast. As for the bars, yes they are a touch expensive, but so is Cyprus overall anyway so this has got to be expected before you book your hol in the first place. One last thing, there are half a dozen or so good restaurants and bars within 5 mins walk of the hotel (Out of the front and turn left) which offer reasonably good Value for Money whilst maintaining a high standard... All of the restaurants being situated as good as next door to each other !! - I hope this truthful review is helpful to you.
