We loved the Almyra. We felt relaxed and welcome as soon as we arrived. The setting and the interior conjured immediate feelings of relaxation. The interior will not be to everyone’s taste as it is rather modern and minimalist - but with the views afforded by this hotel, superfluous decoration would simply detract from the vista.
We plumped for a superior room with a terrace and sea views. It was clean and we recieved fresh towels regularly.
The room was spacious and the views were amazing. The terrace gave us a bit of extra private sunbathing space and the perfect spot to sip champagne whilst the sun set on the sea.
Our experience was marred by not being advised of a wedding ceremony taking place immediately in front of our terrace. There were 60 guests, a 4 piece band and photographers. This was a serious compromise on our privacy and our holiday. As we were unable to use our terrace or have our curtains open (as photographers were standing on our terrace taking pictures). We raised our issue with the manager who was at best nonchalant, and at worst rude. He did not believe there was an issue, and did not think the ceremony rendered our room or terrace out of bounds (!). Not only was he inconsiderate to our holiday, but also the wedding taking place. Out of respect to the wedding party we did not use our terrace as the last thing a bride would want to see is me & my husband sunbathing amongst their smartly turned out friends and relatives!! No apology from the manager was given for this experience (not even for the live band billowing through our window!)
The management should have had the decency to forewarn us so we could have been away from the room at this time. Our complaint was not taken seriously and the manager treated us with disdain.
It is such a shame we had the misfortune to deal with this particular manager because every other person working at the hotel was professional, friendly and enhanced our stay.
The food in the various restaurants is tasty, fresh and of a high standard but this is reflected in the price.
The spa is probably the nicest spa I've ever visited. It's new and feels very state of the art. The staff were excellent and very good at what they do.
We holidayed in September which was a great time to visit, I would imagine a peak season visit could feel overcrowded.
Despite my experience with the most incompetent hotel manager I have ever had the misfortune to meet - I would actually recommend a stay at the Almyra as all the other plus points offset this one bad experience.
