24 hours ago I was sitting enjoying my breakfast overlooking the stunning cypriot sea @ Alymra.
After an incredibly hectic few months, I needed some "me" time and hence, following the advice of two friends who had stayed here the week before, I decided that the idea of a "boutique spa" was the right end to my overall 2 weeks stay in Cyprus so checked in for 5 nights. I was apprehensive before arrival as I had spent 12 days at the luxurious Elysium for my sisters wedding but wanted to be closer to the harbor and somewhere smaller and more relaxing for an adult travelling alone for several days.
From the minute I pulled up outside of Almyra, I felt a huge sense of calm and was greeted by big warm smiles and genuine hospitality. I fail to agree with a previous critic, who said the lobby looked dirty... the lobby is bright, airy and feels calm - I would be the first to notice if it was dirty, believe me I know I am not always the easiest of customers to please! The pool in which the lobby overlooks has a white roof cover which is why the water appears duller but is a fabulous idea as this is where the children and families "dominate" so speaking a more professional tone as a Doctor, its a great idea and nice to see that kids can spend all day outdoors in a safer way from the boiling hot (beautiful) Cypriot weather.
By this pool is a lovely resturant, Notios which serves incredible food (craving another prawn and calamari salad already) and cocktails and drinks are served through the day. On Friday and Saturday there was live music - gentle acoustic guitar and chilled out beautiful tunes which sent me into relaxation overload! That too and the amazing cocktails the barstaff made me.... again, I am a fussy drinker and when I asked if they could possibly make me a raspberry martini, you bet they could - and better than Ive had in most places!
Big smiles. I was delighted when I walked up the stairs to find this stunning, adults only spa. The pool is one of the most relaxing, special things about this spa...its high up looking over the sea and its the most calming spot in the hotel. The huge double sunbeds are so comfortable and they have chosen the perfect chillout tunes to fall asleep to during the day. The spa staff are so kind. Big smiles on their faces and faultless service. I will struggles without Artur's mojito's - I advise all the guests try one.
Upstairs, I had a deep tissue massage with Regina on my final day. I would never wish my regular sports masseuse to see this, but that was by far the most incredible massage I have ever had in any country, in any hotel. 60 minutes, was 60 minutes and she knew exactly how to attack every knot on my body. Dont leave the hotel before indulging in a massage here!
Decent gym upstairs, Im a treadmill person and loved my runs as they were overlooking the sea in the beauty of air conditioning.
Theres a few very minor details I could advise future travellers on - this is not going to sway me from keeping my overall rating as excellent. The lifts are dark and small - so minor and you forget about it after a day there but on arrival I was a bit intimidated by the darkness (very quick and dont feel as if they are about to break though which is reassuring!) There are a LOT of stairs at this hotel, no problem for myself but I wonder how much ease older people would this - that doesnt mean, its not suitable for the elderly, its just perhaps something to contact the hotel about in advance. I cant really find anything else negative to say! (Perhaps just stick my raspberry martini on your menu as its a great drink!)
In summary, this is a lovely little retreat amid one of the most buzzing areas in Paphos harbour. Im not a parent but it was obvious the facilities for children here are excellent and well thought out as over by the spa, children were neither seen or heard! But at breakfast, all I could ever hear children saying to their parents was "can I go to Kids club mummy, please please please!" The food was great - fresh, full of variety and the waiting staff in the restaurants are excellent, Hospitable, attentive, vigilant and quick!
I loved my room - minimalistic, clean, well turned out everyday and GREAT air conditioning - A/C that actually does its job and doesnt dry your skin in the process!
Finally, Ashley the manager is a true gentleman- he is aware of whats going on in the hotel and actively seeks to help out guests. His staff are an asset to him, and as Cypriot myself, they represent the ethos of the Cypriot community - Warm, Caring, Honest and their priority is the people around them and providing excellent service to their guests.
Thank you so much to all of you, I look forward to returning and wish you all every continuing success.
