If in doubt, and you want an amazing experience, you have to go at least once here in your trip to Paphos. But don’t believe the previous reviewers. As often, when on holiday reviewers seem to think everything is amazing, fantastic and all food is good. This review is more balanced.
Looking at the previous reviews, I cannot imagine what the reviewers must have been thinking. Seduced by the view and position, the location is wonderful. Modern to disco music set on the shore next to the Amathus Beach Hotel, with ever-changing coloured Palm trees, one might say anything.
First the location and situation is perfect. It is a very large area and when we left there easily more than 100 people and parking was difficult, though parking looks as if it will take more than 100 cars. So go early. The best time is sundown to watch the sun set, or even better on a full moon. Be warned it may be full later on.
If you are eating choose a table close to the kitchen. Going 50 metres away is asking for trouble as service is slow and not good.
As a cocktail bar it is perfect. For food less so. The menu is limited and the portions too large of poor quality food. Again, we had problems with a Bulgarian waitress, who spoke Bulgarians and limited English (and no Greek!); and again (see other reviews) she was rude and aggressive. The Romanian waitress had equal language restrictions but was very pleasant with it. How Greeks with no English manage, God only knows. However, the owner being close to our table was ready to step in and help in good English or perfect Greek. The fact that he will do this is a plus.
Note vegetarians are often considered to be meat or seafood eaters as is mostly the case in Cyprus. We were a party of 6 and none of the meals were enjoyable. The wine was so so with no published wine list and no well recognized Cypriot wines. We went with a Cypriot whose son (also with us) and just finished producing ‘Two Days in the Smoke’.
A worthwhile experience but not for the food. Would I go there again? Yes, for atmosphere but if you just want the view, try the Muse. That said given the location was full testifies to the popularity of this restaurant. So the position and atmosphere must speak volumes.
