“Fabulous Chill Out”

My Friend and I have just returned from a 10 day stay at the Elysium which was a real girlie chill-out experience despite the 30degree temperatures!!

The omnipresent staff were attentive and catered for your every need. All staff were brilliant but we would particularly like to compliment the pool staff who sorted out extra parasols and loungers for us and even came round with ice cold towels.

The breakfasts were lavish and one of the highlights of the stay. We never needed to eat lunch! There were plenty of social spaces inside and outside the hotel where you could relax with a book and a drink.

The room was great and we really enjoyed the Molton Brown goodies, plentiful towels, robes and loads of wardrobe space. I particularly recommend the Cappacino flavoured nougats which were left on your pillow each night. Even the BBC TV was an unexpected treat, which meant we could catch up with Wimbledon as we relaxed before our evening meal.

We agree the drinks costs were high but it is a 5 star hotel. However the price of gin in the local supermarket is low (recommend the one in the adjacent hotel) and with a bit of manoevering there is room in the mini bar to chill it. We ignored the notices on the mini bar suggest that this practice is frowned upon!!

We were on a B&B basis and only ate in the hotel once as we found two excellent restaurants within a 5 minute walk Duomo (Italian, with scrumptious risotto) and Metaxus (Cypriot and Meditannean, with gorgeous local dishes)

“A Real Treat”

Elysium Hotel

Jun 20, 2008

My boyfriend and I had actually been staying at the Mediterranean Beach Hotel in Limissol when we were offered a free upgrade for a maximum of 2 nights to their sister hotel, The Elysium, in Paphos. (we guessed the Med Beach was about to become over booked, so they were trying to ship people out to accommodate everyone).

We weren't aware what this hotel would be like, but as we were heading back to Paphos for the last few days of our holiday we thought, why not - it will get us back to Paphos for free anyway! And I must say, we weren't disappointed with our decision! Even though it probably wouldn't be our first choice as a accommodation, due to price and the style of the hotel, we thought it was a real treat for a couple of nights .

Our room was lovely, we'd had a sea view room at the Med Beach we were given like for like at the Elysium, so had a perfect view of the sunset, which the hotel seems to be perfectly positioned for. The room was spacious and comfortable with a nice big marble bathroom, Molton Brown toiletries and plenty of wardrobe space .

However, even though we were only there for a couple of nights, my gripes would be, the air con was very noisy, so much so we had to turn it off to sleep, and a theme that seems to run through most reviews, the rooms don't seem to be very well sound proofed. So, if you're a light sleeper or you're there for a week or so, I can imagine your neighbours conversation and banging doors would start to wear a bit thin! We found all the staff we encountered to be very friendly and helpful, especially the guys by the pool who will move sunbed for you and even put your towel on your sun lounger!

The hotel itself is beautifully designed, there are lots of comfortable areas so sit and chill, either inside or out. A beautiful grand staircase in the reception which takes you down to the restaurants and spa. It has lots of grounds to walk in and the pool area is simply lovely, the most comfortable sun loungers I've ever had the pleasure to lie on! We didn't venture on to the private beach area (with beach butler) but again comfortable loungers and parasols were available. There are a number of restaurants to eat in, from Japanese to Italian, so you won’t get bored. We were on a B & B basis, the breakfast was divine and the choices were plentiful - including fresh omelettes cooked to order! I do agree with other reviewers who say its pricey for drinks etc etc but then it is a 5 star hotel so what do you expect? Its no more expensive then a 5 star hotel in the UK (we found). Though we were only there for 2 nights and managed to spend over 150 euros, just on lunch both days, a couple of coffees and a cocktail each on the two evenings. So if you were there for a week or more and you were staying in the confines of the hotel, you would need plenty of spending money! However, it seems that most people who were there during our stay didn't stick around in the evening as we walked in to the bar about 9.30pm and it was empty! There are other places to eat and drink nearby, it is possible to keep the cost down if you need to.

Its hard for me to say whether or not I would be recommend the Elysium as we didn't pay full price for our stay and the hotel seemed to be less than half full while we were there, which obviously makes a difference to the communal areas. People always find things to pick fault with, that’s human nature, but if you like a hotel that has great service, great food, great comfort and is impeccably clean then its for you. It just depends what you want from your holiday I guess. If you like to go away and be waited on hand and foot and don't mind what you pay for it, and you like to stay within the hotel rather than venture out to explore, then I'd say it was perfect.

However, what I'd really recommend is to stay at the Mediterranean Beach and hope you get the chance to upgrade, then you will be in Elysium!!

We have just returned from our second visit to the Elysium which is a wonderful five star hotel with the wow factor. We had a sea view/pool room on a half board basis. The food is simply the best we have encountered and we really are the most discerning travellors. It beats even the Anassa. It is well situated for a lovely shoreline walk of about 40 minutes into the harbour. The owners have tried to do their best with making a small beach would it would benefit from a ton or two of golden sand to brighten it up. Would recommend this to any fussy holidaymaker like us.

“Lovely hotel but a few buts!”

Elysium Hotel

My husband and I stayed in The Elysium for a week and overall we had a great time, the hotel was immaculate, the pool area was fantastic and the grounds were stunning. The service levels were also second to none, if there was anything you needed or any problems they would be knocking on your door within minutes. The breakfast selection was also fabulous and there really was everything you could think of on the buffet. The staff were very friendly and accommodating.

On the downside the rooms werent overly comfortable, the bed was very soft and there were no tea and coffee making facilities in the room as clearly they wanted you to either order room service or get a drink form the lobby and both options were very pricey! On that note we had lunch one day in the restaurant by the pool and ordered a tuna nicoise - it was 12-13 euros and I have never in my life seen a smaller piece of tuna, I was actually insulted.

The bathroom toiletries although they were Molton Brown were not replaced to allow enough for two people so I had to keep calling to request further supplies. They were replaced within minutes but the point is that they seem to provide the bare minimum to save on costs.

The gym was also an issue, I arrived at 8am when it opened so was expecting it to be fully prepared, there were no towels put out, the water had run out and 2 out of 3 treadmills were out of order. When I asked the assistant to replace the water she told me it would be done but around 10 minutes had gone by an no sign of any water! I went back to ask again and she said that she had called someone to change it! In the end I asked someone in the gym to do it as I have no idea how long they were going to keep people waiting - a gym with no water is just not on!! Someone from maintenance should have taken responsibility to replace the water at the end of the previous day or at the beginning of that day. It really doesnt take a rocket scientist to work that one out! The responsibility to sort out the water fell on a girl who worked in the spa who couldnt lift the bottle!-poor girl as it wasnt her fault!

Another terrible point was the our laptops did not work in the rooms as the rooms on the 4th floor cant get internet access so we had to keep going down to the lobby to use our laptops which for a 5* hotel is quite appalling & very inconvenient!!

There was also lots of banging from workmen and maids before 9am most days we were there - again, this was not acceptable!

All in all we did have a great time but these points really are unforgivable! I did make my comments known on the guest questionnaire when we checked out and I hope that my comments were noted. I would really recommend The Elysium to people, it is a really lovely hotel but be aware of a few things.
