“Lovely place, but pricey”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2013

Stayed her last month and the hotel is absolutely lovely. Very nicely designed in every way. The pool area is great and the loungers by the 'beach area' and grass area are a treat. The beach is not great but its nice once you are in the water and there's a jetty to help you get in quickly. The restaurant near the pool is just lovely when having a greek salad and a glass of wine at lunchtime, but do note for 2 people this was €38! Meals in the evening were appx €40 each for buffet, tempting, as the restaurants are beautiful, but too pricey if you are not that hungry Men - dont forget you gotta wear pants to get in -no shorts!
. A walk up the road takes you to some cheaper restaurants where at fat mammas(?) you get rather large portions. But not great quality just OK.
The hotel should offer happy hour as the guests were not spending much time in the lovely bar as it was just too pricey - think the hotel should re think this. Paphos harbour down the road (1€ on the bus), but its very touristy and not particularly different than anything youve ever seen before. We did go out on the quad bikes for 4 hours which was a great trip - really enjoyed that - there was even a 1 year old in the buggy cart who went on the trip!
Nice morning walks along the coastal walk into harbour before breakfast were enjoyed, and in the evening we went sometimes popped to the next door hotel for cheap(er) cocktails (€4-€6)

The airport collection was a bit pricey through easy jet - am sure a shared taxi with people at the airport would have been quicker and cheaper.

As a wedding venue it was lovely but not sure we could afford!
I would love to go again and will recommend, but time to try somewhere else.

Room Tip: if your room is not facing the side or pool then your stay will feel very different. We had one that...

We have just returned from a 10 night stay at the Elysium Hotel in Paphos, this being our 6th visit, and cannot recommend this hotel enough to all age groups. The staff are friendly, caring and very efficient and nothing was ever too much trouble for them. We stayed on a half-board basis and found the buffet food to be fresh, interesting and varied with different themes nightly, and there is also the option of 3 other wonderful a la carte restaurants. We especially loved lunch times in the Mediterraneo Taverna style restaurant with lovely views to the sea and a very good lunch time menu, including very good fresh fish and seafood options. The house wines were very good and, in our opinion, quite reasonably priced. We travelled with our children and their partners and 2 young grandchildren (aged 2 and 4) and we all had a wonderful, relaxing break and cannot wait to return. A big thank you to all the staff.

This was our 2nd visit to the Elysium, having previously stayed there in 2008 with our son, this time was just my husband and I. Already I'm looking at prices to go back next year!! We had a fantastic time!! The staff were always helpful, polite and genuine, with nothing being too much trouble. The room was immaculate and decor throughout the hotel stunning. We made use of the gym facility every day, and I personally was delighted that I could run along the shoreline on the recently renovated walkway which takes you along to the harbour.

The girls in the Spa also deserve a mention...treatments were fabulous and, again, nothing too much trouble.

The "pool boys" were always there to help you find the perfect spot and get you sorted out with a parasol.

Wonderful holiday all round!! Need to start saving our pennies for next year!!

My husband and I have just returned from Cyprus, we stayed at The Elysium and married at a church in the town, with our reception back at the hotel. From start to finish the staff were simply amazing. Every aspect of our holiday and wedding was dealt with above and beyond any expectations. They really go out of their way to make your time with them special, and the attention to detail is just amazing. The hotel itself is wonderful and a good location - just a short walk from the Tomb of the Kings and only a 5 minute drive to the harbour. The food is fantastic too. With regards to getting married there, I can't recommend it enough. I had had a few make up and hair trials in England before hand, and was never really happy with the look, however The Elysiums in-house make up artist and hair dresser were brilliant, their standard was exceptionally professional. As was my wedding planner who I spent the best part of a year emailing to arrange the wedding. Quick and efficient in replying and catering for our needs, and on the day truly wonderful, everything ran like clockwork. Overall I can't fault the Elysium on anything. My husband and I travel a lot, yet nothing has compared to The Elysium it's leagues above the rest, and I can't praise it and the staff enough.

Has to be the best hotel on the whole of the island. Great attention to detail and fabulous for a family holiday for a week. Expensive, but that's what you expect. Couple of things to think about:

- the garden rooms are best if you want to get away from the main part of the hotel
- when we were there they had 4 weddings in the week which was distracting and some of the party goers did rather ruin the relaxed atmosphere
- the various restaurants in the hotel were very expensive. The Barcca restaurant was the best by far for the evening, and the Meditteraneo best for lunch al fresco. However take a walk 5 minutes from the hotel and there were lots of perfectly good restaurants at a third of the price
- Paphos Harbour. I was last there 18 years ago and it has changed (no surprise there!) but not for the better. If anyone from the Cyprus tourist authority reads Trip Advisor then they should do something about the amount of 'touts' trying to get you to eat in their restaurants! It's not attractive and puts off my wife and daughter. Touting outside restaurants has spread from other resorts but instead of making people want to eat at your restaurants it puts people off!
- Culture clash. Again, new to me, but with loads of Russians in Cyprus just be aware that they have a different attitude to things like queuing, saying 'please' and 'thank you', treating staff and alcohol in general. I'm no expert here but if you want a quiet time away, pick the right resort and that includes who is likely to be there with you?

As Cyprus struggles with their economy and financial woes they will be tempted to change the character of some of their resorts and hotels to get in more money, and who can blame them, but be aware that things will change in Cyprus, and possibly not for the better!

Room Tip: garden rooms good for a family of 4

I have wanted to stay at the Elysium for a long time and now that I have, I want to go back again and again! On arrival the reception staff even noticed from my partner's passport that it was his birthday and wished him many happy returns - a nice touch. The hotel location is perfect, set on the beach with beautiful gardens. Its a 5 minute bus journey from the centre of Paphos and the bus stop is just up the road from the hotel. All areas of the hotel are spotlessly clean and the staff are polite and very helpful. Our room (4180) was large with a sitting area and a large bathroom with shower and bidet, the views were to die for, overlooking all the pools and gardens leading down to the beach. Tea and coffee facilities were available in the room as well as a nice flat screen TV. Breakfast provided a huge choice, there was something for everyone (we were on B&B basis only). However, we did dine in the Italian Restaurant and the Mediterranean Restaurant in the hotel for two nights and the food was superb and service was spot on. We chose our own fish in the Mediterranean Restaurant (Red Snapper) and the chef cooked it perfectly and even took the trouble to fillet it for us at the table. Other evenings we dined at local Tavernas, just up the road from the hotel - no reason other than we like to experience local eating places. Can highly recommend The Farm House, Taverna, 3 minutes up the road from the hotel.
The pool and garden areas were clean and very well kept and the service of the pool guys and the pool waiting-on staff was faultless.
The gardens at this time of the year were in full bloom and the flowers and scent of Oleander was everywhere.
All in all, a great hotel and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to everyone!

Room Tip: Its really worth paying the additional premium for a sea view room

The Elysium is by far the best hotel we have stayed at. Having said that we have not stayed at many 5 star hotels but this outshines everything we have stayed before. The service is excellent and we were made to feel like royalty - nothing was too much trouble for them. The service was excellent, the breakfast choice was incredible and the feeling of space was superb. The only negative was the cost of food and drink which we felt was a little excessive but we did enjoy the excellent service when ordering. The hotel is very well positioned but we were a bit disappointed with the springing up of non Greek like bars and restaurants nearby such as Macdonalds and KFC but the hotel and its grounds were superb
