This was my second stay at the Elysium. I had room 1402 - one of the garden suites with a private pool. There are three of these, 1402, 1404 and 1406, and they are good because the gardens/pools are really very private indeed - someone would have to stand on tiptoe to overlook them (though in 1402 the trees were not quite old enough to screen the garden completely from the upper rooms of the main block next door.
The Elysium is a truly first class hotel - see my earlier review from last year, but the manager has changed and a couple of niggles have crept in. For example, my bed had a rubber waterproof sheet under the bed sheet - can you imagine? Quickly removed, and as quickly replaced by the staff next day, so each day I removed it again. Honestly!
Also the aircon in the garden suites transmits noise to each of tis neighbours, so though mine was firmly "off", next door left theirs on 24/7 and the hum permeated my room day and night.
Lastly the private pools have a water spout circulation system, which pours a thick stream of noisy water four feet into the pool beloq all day. It turns off about 1900, but they should have an off switch in the room. I solved the problem by draping a towel over the spout which reduced the gushing roar to a trickle, but some acrobatics were needed!
These apart, the elysium is still a great place - nice staff, delicious meals, fantastic ambience, nearly perfect.
Some tips - one row of garden suites has infinity pools. These sound nice, but ten feet from the infinity edge is a line of bushes and trees, so you cant see much., Between the pool edge and the trees is a public path, so forget any ideas of skinny dipping in your infinity pool or naked sunbathing in the garden.
I had a look at the evgenia suite in the main building - simply two normal rooms bolted together. The sitting room is "formal greek" style - sit up and beg chairs and sofa, a silly bar occupies one end of a small room, small double balcony with a nice sea view.
The balcony also has a fine view of the terrace of the royal suite one floor down.
The Royal suite is overlooked by the suite above (so again no skinny dipping), and the pleasant royal suite terrace forms the roof of the mediterraneo restaurant, so expect revelling diners to interrupt your sundowners.
Also the royal suite is in easy earshot of the family pool so expect the cheerful noise of a hundred families to drift over the edge of the balcony.
