This is more of a three star resort with basic amenities. On arrival you will be offered a drink, which they claim is fresh orange juice with fizz....it's actually a local fanta! Be prepared to carry your own luggage from the taxi to the front desk and up to your room...concierge is non-existent!! Payment for your stay is taken upfront...have never encountered this at any hotel we've stayed in.

The room is basic and our one had carpet!! It wasn't too hot during our stay so that was fine, but can't imagine walking on carpeted floors in the heat. To use the fridge, which is locked, you need to put down a €10 deposit. We had fun looking for plug points in the room, which we were stunned, like the concierge were non-existent...we finally found one in the closet!! One bottle of water is provided on arrival and none after that. Water can't be bought from the hotel's shop, which is hidden away in a corner and very pricey. There is a small supermarket about a five minute walk ( turn right as you exit the hotel and keep walking til you pass the water splash and the Carvelle restaurant). The supermarket carries everything from drinks, crisps, fruit and souvenirs. The Carvelle restaurant is a must and has fabulous seafood, the fish mezze is very very reasonably priced.

The spa is extremely pricey, with some treatments costing more than you'd pay in London! If you ask for a sea facing room, beware, these overlook the pool and when music blares from the bar there is no chance of a quiet read on the balcony. The breakfast is okay, it consists of all you'd expect, but is the same everyday, can get a bit boring if your stay is a long one. And stay away from the omelette station, omelettes are made with plenty of oil, resulting is eggs floating on your plate in the oil! The staff in the breakfast area are very friendly, and the manager has great PR and did help with some issues we had. On the whole, not the quiet place we were hoping for, especially as it was off season and definitely not five star.

Must mention one of the most positive aspects of the hotel is the free wifi throughout the place, excellent connection!

Room Tip: If you want quiet stay away from pool view

We were three families on an all-inclusive deal and have only good things to say about our stay. Let's start with Elana, the manager, and her wonderful front desk staff; the wait staff; and indeed all the hotel staff: They just can't do enough for you. Every question, every request for tips or bookings, every little thing -- they did it gladly and always with humor and a smile. How often do you go to a big resort hotel and get this kind of embrace? The hotel lobby & grounds are beautiful and our freshly renovated rooms were spacious & comfortable. Everything is spotless. It was too cold to swim in the big pool but the children had a grand time in the indoor one.
The hotel is generous in its meal buffets and all-inclusive snacks and drinks - our party had some fussy eaters but they always found many options. The food is not gourmet (this is not a place for foodies) but it is fresh, well seasoned and tasty. Stay away from the cola and sprite, though, as it is basically colored water.
Bottom line: The kids had a blast and we adults relaxed and rested. I recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Pay for rooms that are not facing the back - that's a view over parking.

We booked bungalows in the "nice area" of the hotel, we were looking forward for this vacation, mostly because the hotel is advertised as winner of almost everything and one of the top spas.... what a disappointment to arrive there!
The hotel is OK, but definitively not a 5 stars as published, in an overall look is kinda sad... it looks like it HAD it good times, but now is just looking old or neglected...
To continue with the disappointment, one of 3 "bungalows" (yes I put it on ".." cause they are NOT bungalows, is more like rooms with balcony) had something broken so we weren't going to get it till the next night, another of them smelled like paint, the hot tub outside is like for one person and again not as advertised!
The hotel manager Elena Netanel, was the nicest to explain all of this and because we booked the top rooms she was very kind to make us feel the best she could, but obviously it wasn't something she could fix, but we really appreciated her and her efforts...
We ended up leaving the hotel, it just wasn't what we expected and the price for what it is, is totally out of proportion. And the spa, sorry but is nothing close to a top starred spa...
Is an ok hotel, but is definitely NOT A FIVE STAR and shouldn't be charging as it.

Dear Reviewer
Good morning from the Azia Resort and Spa
We take feedback from the guests very seriously and we discuss guests’ comments with the heads of the departments at the weekly meeting and individual employees where necessary.
Thank you for your honesty in rating only the location and the service on tripadvisor as you could not rate the other categories as you only visited and saw the hotel for 10 minutes.
We only use and look into comments from guests who have used the hotel and have paid for some hotel service.
As you never stayed at the Azia Resort and you definitely did not use any hotel services, you also never paid us anything for any services in the hotel.
We are very happy to hear that you liked the service offered by Elena Nathanael, who was the only person you came in contact with.
We are unsure how you are rating the spa as you never used it.
Regarding the bungalows room you booked - Premium Junior Suite with Outdoor Jacuzzi - is clearly seen on our website both on our photo gallery and next to the price on the booking engine of the hotel.
The photo on our website clearly shows the size of the room and indeed, we even have a lady sitting in the Jacuzzi on the veranda, to show the size of the Jacuzzi which is meant to be for a couple sitting if they feel comfortable with each other or alone ofcourse if they prefer . The photo also clearly shows the room decoration.
It is very worrying to hear that you were misguided by some advertisement somewhere, and we would appreciate if you could contact us to tell us what exactly you saw and where this was advertised.
You went around the hotel in a few minutes and, as it was during the first week of the season , you found the hotel quiet and the weather unfortunately not the best. I am guessing this is what you meant by ‘sad’.
You arrived at the hotel around 11.00. When you asked about the rooms, we never said any of the rooms could not be given until the next day. What we informed you was that the check in time is at 14.00 and if you were staying with us, we were going to try to give them to you by 12.30 as the staff was still working in the rooms. This is the normal procedure in hotels worldwide.
As we also mentioned to your friend, you asked for a Premium Junior Suite with Outdoor Jacuzzi, for which we quoted the price of euro 349.60 for 2 people including HB for 2 people. We could not offer this room for a cheaper price at that period - as those are very popular rooms and the rest were full- but there were many categories of much cheaper rooms in the hotel, if you decided to spend less.
We are sorry that we cannot give the Premium Junior suites with Outdoor Jacuzzis for the same price as a standard room and the general policy of the hotel is that we will never accept to be blackmailed or negotiated with reviews, naming other hotels etc.
I am sure all the staff of the hotel would have been very happy to offer you the same level of excellent service that you enjoyed with Elena and that has won us all these awards over the years, if you had decided to use the hotel.
As you also mention the hotel has many and varied awards for many years now. The vast majority of the awards were received after voting. We were voted by the guests who stayed with us and we were compared with other hotels worldwide. We get awards year after year, in many categories including luxury and spa.
We are really sorry you did not decide to try us.
We hope you had a lovely holiday somewhere else and many more in the future.

1. From the entrance of the hotel at the check-in desk, the cashier ask you to pay the full amount of the money for your accommodation.
2. About the hotel facilities such as Sauna, Hot Tub and Hummam, they charge you extra and need pre-booking.
Quite simply this is advertised as a 5 star hotel and it falls very short of that. If you are looking for 5 star quality, this isn't the place for you. Would give it 3 stars; its classifications needs to be re-examined by the relevant authorities. Wouldn't stay here again and would not recommend it to anyone looking for a 5 star establishment.
3. View is fantastic but no direct access to the beach.
4. Staff is very helpful and kind.

Dear Reviewer,

Good morning from the Azia Resort and Spa. Thank you for taking the time to let us know of your stay in April 2015. Let me first assure you that the comments from our guests, both positive and negative, on our in-house questionnaires, this website, on letters and thank you cards or through other means, are read at the weekly meetings with all the managers of the departments present and are taken very seriously.

We thank you for sharing your comments and we are glad to hear you found the staff of the hotel to be very helpful and kind. The staff take great pleasure in making sure that all guests enjoy their service, so they will be very happy to see that all their efforts and service were really appreciated and enjoyed by you during your stay. We would, however, like to comment on the other aspects you mentioned on your review:
- As in any hotel around the world, upon check in, a credit card is requested to be used for the payment of the room and any extras that might be consumed during a client’s stay. In case of not having a credit card, hotels ask for a cash payment in advance. We are sorry if this procedure made you uncomfortable; however this is a procedure that is applied in the vast majority of the hotels, as mentioned above, around the world.

- You mention in your review that facilities as the Sauna, Hot Tub or Hammam are charged extra and must be pre-booked. This is correct. The above mentioned facilities belong to our Asphodel Spa, which offers a wide range of treatments that include the private use of the Sauna, Hot Tub or Hammam. Due to its individual use and popularity, these facilities need to be pre-booked in advance. Usually it is ok to book in the morning for the afternoon, or in the evening for the next morning. Our indoor pool, however, does have Jacuzzi jets and these are free to use.

- Your reasons for not recommending the hotel for 5 stars are not clear and it would be nice if you could contact us to tell us where you thought it did not meet your expectations.

The hotel has been awarded by a number of international publications.

Last year we won an award by World Luxury Hotels for a second time; other recent luxury awards included awards from Conde Nast Traveller, Elle, Grazia, World Luxury Spa Awards and few Tripadvisor awards including Travellers’ Choice for luxury , Etc. The hotel fulfils all the Cyprus Government requirements for a 5 star hotel and has passed yearly inspections by many organisations inside Cyprus as well as International organisations such as many known Tour Operators worldwide

- We are really pleased to read that you enjoyed the view from the hotel – we are known for having one of the most amazing views of the sunset in Cyprus. The hotel is directly on the seafront on an elevated area. Therefore the sandy beach is 100m down a smooth, paved path (smooth enough to be also accessible to children’s pushchairs). There is a photograph in our Photos and Videos section on our website taken from the sandy beach that shows the beach and the distance from the building – various other images of the beach are shown also on TripAdvisor in their image gallery, which show the direct access to the beach. Although not very big, it is a natural sandy beach.

We have shared your positive comments with all our staff, and we thank you again for your feedback, as positive or negative it is always constructive for the hotel and we encourage every guest to leave a small feedback.
We were all delighted to read that you rated us highly in cleanliness and service!
Here at the Azia, we all hope we will have the pleasure to welcome you back in the future for another holiday. Please contact us if you like so that we can make sure that the next time you have an fantastic stay.
On behalf of all the management and staff of the Azia Resort and Spa

Stayed half board for a week, booking the flights and hotel separately. This is a beautiful hotel just outside of Pafos (but on a bus route). Lovely pool area with lots of sunbeds and terraces with tables. Free wi-fi. The hotel was very clean throughout and there was maid service twice a day to the room. Toiletries were replenished every day and there was a kettle with tea bags, coffee etc. On arrival we were given a glass of juice and fruit, water and wine in the room. I'd told the hotel it was my birthday and they'd put balloons in the room plus a gift which was a nice touch. The staff were very helpful - particular thanks to Elena, the front of house manager, Mira & Olivia on Reception & Paul the porter. Reception booked us on two tours. The breakfast is a buffet with so much to choose from there is no need to go hungry or even need lunch. The service was excellent at breakfast and you could have omelettes made to order. We didn't go in the bar but there was entertainment there in the evening. Nearby there is a bar showing football matches and a small supermarket. It was the start of the season so quiet. Dinner was a buffet but for the last few nights of our stay it was table d'hote.

The only negatives were that, as it was early in the season, the waiting staff needed a bit more training as the table d'hote dinner service was slow and they weren't consistent with the price of drinks which we found confusing. Also my daughter has to have a dairy-free diet and we told Reception but there was no soya milk etc. The bed was a little firm for my liking but that's personal taste.

Tips - Cyprus tends to deal in cash so make sure you have plenty of Euros with you, although the hotel took credit cards (except for the tours but they were booking on behalf of a company) and it exchanged money. Also allow plenty of time at Paphos airport, particularly on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
A small hotel may have all the charm in the world, yet what the discerning guest will sometimes miss is the variety of experience to make the holiday an unforgettable pleasure. This is the thinking behind the concept of the Azia Resort, a foray into sophisticated escapism that offers stylish barefoot living, understated luxury and casual unobtrusive service. Built as three sections, with plethora of magnificent spaces for carefree living, the Azia Resort has all the diversity to keep its guests contented for a week or longer. Each element of the three-in-one boutique hotel concept has its own character and fulfills different aspirations of the visitor. The Azia Blue is about sophisticated, spacious living and family luxury. The Azia Club and Spa is ideal for privacy and indulgence. The Residence is a haven of individual pampering and innovative style. The Azia Resort is situated a few kilometres from Paphos centre and is privileged to share close proximity to the finest locations and treasures of the island. One of the few resorts with a west-facing outlook, the Azia provides guests with a sublime view of blazing indescribable sunsets. The sophisticated design of the hotel owes as much to edgy London design as to local influences. The result an atmosphere that is sensuous yet earthy, shaped by the whole history of Cyprus and by the natural beauty of the island. The nature is suggested, for instance, by such details as the use of flower and leaf motifs carved on wood and stone as well as by the profusion of indoor and outdoor plantings. The history is present in a slick, fusion manner combining very earthy and artistic elements. Each area is influenced by a different chapter of the Cyprus history. Venetian Murano glass, hand painted silk and gold leaf decoration of the main dining room represent the impact of the Venetian Republic on the history of the island, while the main lobby has the airiness suggestive of the open spaces of the agora of ancient Greece. There the pebble, the marble, the greenery and the abundance of light combine perfectly with loungy loveseats and design furniture. The staircase banister looks like seaweeds moving with the waves and the piano lobby bar is a beautiful reminder of the colonial influence. The main bar, in deep sensuous colours, with finely carved wood lace on the walls and hand-wrought iron lamp structures, captures the fusion of Arab cultures on the island. The sybaritic Asphodel Spa is a hymn to nature, intriguing to the senses yet calming to the mind. The sound of falling water, the fine incense of ouzo and anise, the breeze in the garden treatment rooms, the rich natural textures; these and a variety of treatments offering different experiences have been deployed in its design to awake all the senses and sooth the body and mind. This is one of the best spas in the world, a space that can keep the visitor content day after day. The symbol of the hotel is the Asphodel, the immortal flower in the ancient Greek mythology. According to the ancient Greeks, it stands for the ultimate happiness of the soul and was the first sight a soul longed to see at the gates of paradise. Asphodel still grows in abundance wild on the island. ... more   less
