Stayed in the Aloe mid September for one week. First impressions are impressive, very spacious and modern reception area, lounge areas, internet pc, shop etc. We were situated on the 1st floor facing towards the pool, but being on the 1st floor didn't really have much of a view but the room was quite spacious and clean with a nice bathroom and certainly not rundown. Only used the mini bar once for a quick beer after our trip to Cairo (see below) think it was about £1.80 Cypriot pounds.
Going to breakfast at around 8.30-9ish didn't have any problems with service and always got seen quickly for drinks. Breakfast choice was good, not the best or largest choice I've had but good enough. We both remarked how hard all the staff worked in order to keep everything clean and stocked up. Outside, great swimming pool area, a traditional shaped pool more suitable for serious swimmers and then an upper part with a bridge and area where you could sit in the pool to cool off. Having been past Alex the Greats pool, the Aloe is about 2 mins away and pool wise is 10 times larger and much nicer. Had snacks and drinks around the pool and found all staff there very pleasant and prices not too bad. You're given a card when you check in to get a towel which you hand in everday, just don't lose your card as you need to give it back to reception when you're checking out. Didn't have a meal in the restaurant at night so can't comment seems to have the usual themed nights, italian, Cypriot etc.
Location wise, the hotel really is perfect. Go left and within 5 mins you reach the triangle area, went to the Black Rose pub, great friendly bar with cheap cocktails £1.50 and cheap beer. Had nice Italian meal round the other side of the Black Rose pub next to the Piano bar place. Go right outside Aloe, and having past Alex the great within about 2 mins, you are only about 5 mins before hitting lots of restaurants, then bar street and the harbour area. We regularly walked down nr the Harbour area and without going to fast it took about 15-20 minutes so we were really happy with the location. Nice bar almost opposite Porto Paphos hotel was Pingouino or something (you can't miss it all white and trendy furniture, cocktails very nice at £1.95 all day/night and great for catching any sport!)
Restaurant wise, we went to several, Les Amis was good, right outside Aloe about 2 mins away, Romantica was ok, le spaghettiaria was very nice nr top end of bar street just spoiled by some loud mouth brits!, Adelaida top 3 course meal and bottle of wine £7.95 Cypriot but book otherwise you might be disappointed! Bella Porto right outside hotel about 5 mins was good and decent service.
Walked to Mosaics and got bus to Tomb of the Kings, but worthwhile visits but take plenty of water if hot as not much shade! Also went to old town but didn't think much of it and didn't spend long around there.
Also went to waterpark which is worth a visit even though it's a bit expensive, wasn't too busy though and easy to get on the slides. Visit to Cairo by air was the highlight of the holiday and worth the long day, picked up approx 06:30 and got back around midnight. Saw the Pyramids, Sphinx, Egyptian Museum (fab) complete with mummies room, and cruise on the nile.
Was told we would get approached by the scratchcard people but didn't any problems and no mosquitos thankfully!
Been to Ayia Napa and Paphos now so probably won't be returning for a while but had a very good holiday and you couldn't fault the weather! If you're after a good b+b hotel in a great location, would definitely recommend the Aloe.
