Our hotel, Sofianna, is as the western end of "Bar Street" (real name Agios Antoniou) but you would hardly have known it. Sit in the George and Dragon and enjoy a quiet drink in September and there's hardly any sign of any activity down Bar Street. Walk down after 7pm and it's quiet with a few bars opening. Note the high number of closed or abandoned establishments at this time of year which I initially attributed to it being "off season". Visit during daylight and it's quite obvious that some of these places have been abandoned for some time.
Wander down after 9pm and there are the omnipresent touts trying to drag you into their establishment. Hmmmm . . . No thanks, we're just passing through.
Yes, can't deny it but quite a few bars, kebab shops, restaurants and eateries are open. It all looks quite inviting when it's dark and the ones that are open are lit up. There are also quite a few people about and some of the more popular places are busy, but by and large it appears to be an area in decline. Apparently "Different" bar is a gay bar! Ha!!
I imagine it's a lot busier during June July August, but we were there mid to late September. Even our hotel was full of "the older set" with only a few youth present.
