The Annabelle

We have just returned from a 7 night stay at the Annabelle. I had been worried having read the reviews but this was definitely 5 star - incredibly welcoming (forget standing at the desk to book in, we were given fresh orange juice and a cold towel to refresh us before being shown round the hotel), clean and with excellent facilities. The staff were very attentive without being obsequious, the room was serviced twice a day, the pools were clean and not busy, and the breakfast was great with a wonderful selection. It is also in an excellent position close to the port (although we heard no noise in the evening). Given that Cyprus is experiencing a heat wave it was good to be able to walk quickly to nearby restaurants. We had a hire car booked, and it was useful to have the car park free of charge. Would we go back? - yes, definitely!

“So Thats Paphos”

The Annabelle

We had been recomended to try Paphos and the Annabelle after many years staying in Protaras (Grecian Park) & Ayai Napa (Adams Beach / Olympic Lagoon).
In hindsight we would have been better advised to wait until both the hotel and surrounding area had been up-graded. The hotel is tired un-like the prices single G&T 7.40euro, fresh juice 4.00 euro. Advise you to go across the road for mineral water 12 x 1/2ltr for 1.60euro and any off licence Bombay Gin 1ltr 12.00euro plus 1ltr tonic 2.40euro and as for a ham & cheese toastie at 10.00euro forget it, dinner @ 90.00euro each "have a word".
As for the beach it appears that the local builders/construction workers (of which there are many) have nicked all the sand and left behind a fine covering of dust and grit barely covering the concrete, never heard such a noise when sunbeds are being re-aligned. One saving grace is the nearby watersports with self drive speedboats & jet ski's great fun and really helpful staff.
Laying in the sun or having lunch listeing to concrete breakers and heavy machinery, different !! go back to the area or the hotel I dont think so. 7* prices in a 4* hotel.
After all that moaning it must be said that the gardens are beautiful & hotel staff very helpful its just a shame that re-investment in both the hotel and area hadnt been done over time instead of waiting until all need doing at once.

Management Response
HotelManagerPaphos, General Manager
(Management representative)
Jul 1, 2008
The construction works mentioned refer to the Paphos Municipality improvement works of the seafront area.

Part of these works involve the resurfacing of the vertical public walkways, from the main road to the beach, by the side of the hotel. This is only carried out on one side, the west side and it does not disturb our clients.

There are no works on the beach in front of the hotel nor on the hotel grounds.

Although these improvement works are beyond our control we feel confident that the Municipality will continue with responsibility towards visitors and will ensure that the noise and inconvenience caused is minimal.

“The wonderful Annabelle hotel”

The Annabelle

We have not long returned from staying at the Annabelle hotel in Paphos we have been to Paphos before, but this holiday staying at the Annabelle was the best, The hotel is just great, and very well looked after by its management and very helpful and friendly staff, nothing is any trouble.
The room we had was very nice with no complaints, although next time i would like a deluxe room, only for the walk in shower as i am of reduced mobiliy.

Would recommend this hotel to any one who likes nice surroundings, may not be for young people who want the very modern.

My wife and I stayed at the Annabelle for the first week of June 2008. I was somewhat concerned because of the negative reviews on this website. I need not have worried: the hotel and its staff in particular were wonderful. Although it is not the biggest, nor the newest, nor the most expensive, and certainly not the flashiest hotel we have stayed in, it was probably the best. We felt very much at home and at ease.

The hotel is relatively old (1985). It is, however, in immaculate order. There are armies of cleaners, even sweeping the trees. It is also discreet, quite low key and laid back in atmosphere: this is not one of those flashy, edgy, and self-conscious luxury hotels. The staff were omnipresent and ever helpful, yet never trespassed on our privacy. Although we didn't make many requests and certainly had no problems, they were very accommodating when we called on them, sorting out car hire, a small drinks party and just being friendly.

The food was good, two proper restaurants, a taverna restaurant and a pool bar/cafe.

The location is excellent: in Paphos town centre yet very quiet.

Best of all: neither the accommodation nor the food and drink prices were expensive. I did not consult any menus and ordered pretty freely when we were there and expected an horrendous room service bill: it was half what I had figured.

“Love the Annabelle, hate the timeshare touts”

The Annabelle

May 30, 2008

We stayed at the Annabelle for 11 nights, this was our 3rd stay and as usual we had an excellent holiday. We paid a little more this time and stayed in a deluxe sea view room, it was well worth the money as the views were amazing and the room was lovely with a massive comfy bed and a big bathroom. The hotel staff are friendly and helpful and nothing is too much trouble. Breakfasts are much improved from the last time we stayed with plenty of choice. The surroundings of the hotel are wonderful and you can also use the facilities of the Alymera Hotel next door.

There is a nice walk behind the Annabelle along the sea front up past most of the major hotels but it is spolit by timeshare touts hanging around. My husband and I were bothered 7 times one morning and it does get very annoying. They are quite aggressive and pull up quickly on scooters and block your path or block the path with a car so you can't get past. After a few days we decided not to go this way as we were totally sick of it, we even heard the touts swearing at tourists. I am ashamed that these people are English and they are totally ruining people's holidays. They were even walking around hotels and leaving the so called winning tickets on empty sunloungers whilst people were in the pool or at the bar. The goverment and police really need to do something or tourists will stop going to Cyprus.

On a more positive note the area from the Annabelle up to the harbour is being pedestrianised and although they are still working on it it will be much more pleasant walking along there now the cars are gone.

There is quite a bit of building work going on along the harbour area but it is going to make Paphos more attractive in the long run but whether I will go back will depend on if the goverment and police can get rid of the scum timeshare touts.
