We returned yesterday from a last minute 1 week’s holiday in the New York apartments. We looked at the reviews on other sites which were mixed but our experience of the hotel was a really good one. We arrived late afternoon and the receptionist was waiting outside to give us a lovely friendly welcome. We were taken upstairs to a 2 bed roomed apartment as apparently our room was not ready. We had booked a 1 bed apartment but we received a free upgrade to a 2 bed instead. The 2 bed apartment was very spacious with 2 big double bedrooms, each of which had a sizable balcony overlooking the pool and street. There was also a balcony in the large living room/kitchen area which overlooked the street. The kitchen was pretty basic with a tiny camping type cooker with 2 burners, a kettle, toaster and full size fridge. One of the cupboards was hanging off but our Olympic rep said it would be fixed immediately if we mentioned it to the staff, but it didn’t really affect us so we didn’t bother. There was a large amount of decent pans and frying pans with a few appropriate utensils. A few wooden spoons wouldn’t have gone amiss but on the whole it was better than average.
There was air con but as someone has previously mentioned there are air con units in each bedroom and you have to have all or nothing for a whole week and this was 8 euro’s per night which we thought was too expensive. That aside we were upstairs so slept with the balcony windows open and managed reasonably well.
The beds are fairly comfortable and the apartment was kept very clean. The beds were changed with a fresh bottom sheet every day and towels were changed daily even when we would have happily dried them on the balcony. The high standard of hygiene was evident throughout the whole hotel. Our Olympic rep , Sarah was lovely and managed to combine a good helpful professional attitude with a good sense of humour. The hotel staff were also lovely and friendly and always greeted us with big smiles and chatted happily. The swimming pool is small but this suited us because our 2 children could play in the pool and we could see them easily. There are padded comfortable sun loungers with umbrellas around the pool and there were always plenty available although I don’t know if this would be the case later in the high season but it was perfect in June and the pool was rarely used so felt like our own private pool. We were out a lot of the time but the pool and its loungers were a treat to return to in the late afternoon when the pool became shaded and our girls were complete water babies. The location is also very good and Paphos is an easy walk away and we were able to walk to the Tomb of the Kings and a large variety of restaurants. The harbour and anywhere in Paphos is only 1 euro each or 2 euros per person for an all day travel pass which allows you to hop on and off the bus all day. Also kids go free which is helpful. We didn’t eat at the hotel except on the BBQ night which I would whole heartedly recommend. It was cheep for Paphos at 10 euros per person and the food was unlimited and some of the nicest we had in Paphos. There isn’t any hotel nightly entertainment apart from the BBQ which was great because we could sleep peacefully at night despite being on top of the bar which was open quite late.
We feel that the New York hotel apartments are a real gem and if we returned to Paphos we would love to stay here again.
Advice: Go to the attractions later in the day when it is cooler and use the good cheep bus service.
