This tavern is located in Paphos town, very central and a stone's throw away from the market. So a touristy location which - in our experience - makes it very hit or miss whether you get quality traditional food or the tourist fare of fried breakfasts and too many frozen chips. Our experience at Tavern Scorpios was excellent, home cooked, Cypriot cuisine.
We were welcomed by a friendly face and quickly had a refreshing fresh orange juice in front of us. We were given the menus and then the manager went through various local dishes that they had cooked from scratch that morning; 3 meat dishes and 2 vegetarian dishes. He came up with suggested accompaniments and explained what the Cypriots would have with each dish.
We decided on the lamb stew with okra and black eyed beans with spinach and a tuna side dish. A simple salad (tomato, onion, cucumber, rocket, lime, pickled celery and olives) was complimentary as was bread. We returned another lunch time and had the Afelia (pork dish) and moussaka. On both occasions, the food was delicious and we felt the bill represented very good value. We noticed a lot of repeat business from locals and expats alike. Well done Tavern Scorpios!
