“careful of the steps down!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2014

If you happen upon this little Catacomb it is worth taking a few minutes to have a look. Go down the steps to the main area; there is a set of steep steps down into a very dark area, and if you go down these do so very carefully, as the bottom step enters water so still that you do not know that it is there. If you go with children, take care they don't go running off.

“Worth seeing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2014

These ancient ruins are situated beside the B20 road leading up from the harbour and castle to the Tombs of the Kings Avenue (E701), just a short walk from the harbour. They are signposted from the road, and also depicted on local maps.

There is not enough to see for you to spend a long time here, and the site is nothing like as impressive as the nearby Amphitheatre, but it is nevertheless worth taking a quick look.

“Holes in rocks”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2014

Interesting place. Lots of trees and caves (holes in rocks). Need time to understand the layout. The bed rock lent itself to the making of the catacombs as it was easy to carve.

“asks more questions than gives answers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2014

An ancient place of Christian worship, cut down into the rocks. This was, even on a damp day, an enchanting religious site.
It .is a bit of a puzzle were the little cells for the incarceration of Saint Solomon (allegedly), or more likely, simple place of refuge and bedchambers.for nuns or monks.
The "rag" tree grows directly out of the walls and adds a bit more charm with 100's of pieces of cloth (plus quite a few paper tissues) tied to the branches.
However does the tree grow and flourish?
