Worst Indian we've ever had - sorry but have to tell it like it is.

“Some of the best Indian food we ve ever tasted!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2010

This restaurant recently relocated from Paphos town to Coral Bay. First impressions were that although it was sparsely furnished it was clean and the owner welcoming. He had no problems rejigging the tables to accomodate our party of 6 with the best view of the sunset!!
He explained that he had only been open on this site 19 days and to bear with him if certain items were unavailable as he was still researching demand. We appreciated this open and honest approach and apart from the sweet lassi s (fabulous Indian yoghurt shake ) all dishes ordered were available ...... the best naan bread ,lamb korma , butter chicken ,and onion bhajis were then presented on the table with mushroom rice for the accompaniments. We were told if we came again to ring in advance and he would make sure the ingredients for the lassi s would be available and if we were willing he would conjure up a couple of vegetarian dishes for us to try and comment on. We were so impressed with the quality and taste of the food that we returned the following week. The sweet mango lassi s were delicious as were the three complimentary dishes of Dhal, mung beans, vegetables and chapati s that we were treated to, in addition to our order!! The owner was very eager to please and was very friendly. Given that the business was new to this location it was a little lacking in decor, However , the food , was utterly delicious and the warm and friendly service meant that we will return ... often !!

“Absolutely terrible service, we were asked to leave!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2010

The restaurant we went to is called the Prema Indian restaurant, but is located in Coral Bay in the same premises above a Chinese/Thai restaurant called the Jade Palace. I think they moved their original location to this new place and probably under a new management (considering the good reviews for this restaurant on this site).

We had gone on a holiday to Pahos, Cyprus and were very hungry when we reached this restaurant. The worst part of the whole experience was the total disregard we felt from the guy (an old Gujarati Indian person) who may be the owner or manager. First he asked one of the ladies in our group to help him set up a table!, he then takes our order which included some 4-5 common dishes served in any Indian restaurant (palak paneer, veg korma, etc) which he insisted were side dishes and cannot be served as a main dish. Apparently they had ran out of chillies (by around 7.30pm) so 2 dishes were canceled. He also seemed sick and was coughing frequently. They sent us 2 starters - aloo tikki and chicken tikka, casually tossed on a plate with absolutely zero presentation and to top it, the chicken tikka pieces were cold and hard which felt like old and just slightly reheated food- hardly worth eating or the price. We brought it to his attention and instead of just believing us and correcting it, he reaches out and touches the food with his bare fingers to convince himself. We tried canceling the dish from our order and he got furious, takes it away and bangs it on the counter! He argues with us and then asks us to leave. We leave some money for the water and the starters and leave the place.

To be fair, he was the only person who sullied the whole experience. One of the waiters who got us the water was very polite and may have handled things better even though the food quality is still of concern.

As we were hungry, we just went down to the Jade Palace restaurant below and had the best food and service. They too had some problems of running out of cooking gas due to unexpected rush, but we never felt like some unwelcome guests there.

“Great hospitality and fantastic food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2010

Prema is tucked away off the Tombs of the Kings Road and is easy to miss - look for the big satellite dish to get your bearings.
Mike, the host, and his wife, the chef, were very friendly and welcoming and the food was absolutely amazing. I am coeliac so need a gluten free diet, and when Mike told us his wife was too I knew I wouldn't have to worry. In addition to what we ordered, we were brought little taster dishes, and discovered some lovely new 'favourites'.
The service was good. We were never in a hurry and were able to relax and enjoy our meal without feeling rushed.
We visited Prema again a couple of times during our stay in Paphos, and the food and hospitality was excellent on each occasion. On my daughter's birthday Mike surprised her with a traditional birthday cake and bottle of bubbly.
We'll definitely be visiting again next time we are in Paphos.
