We have just returned from a week long stay at the St Nicolas Elegant Residence in Paphos, staying in Platanos no.1, a stunning two story house. We booked through villarenters.com and the booking was very straight forward and as we had our 10 month old baby with us we were able to book all the extras we required such as high chairs and cots. The owner, Simon, contated us after booking and before we went to confirm everything and to provide some really good directions from the airport and some other useful info.
I had read a couple of worrying reviews from earlier this year about litter and other standards dropping such as no lights in stairways so I was a little worried about going. But we arrived at night so we couldnt see anything straight away and as the review said there was no lighting from where we parked our car up to the villa door so we had to use our mobile phones for light! The key is in a safe box next to the door which was easy to find and so we could let ourselves in. I have to say we were made up when we got in there. The high quality finish and the standard of fixtures and fittings was great. Granite work surfaces and quality leather sofas. The villa isn't huge but it is laid out excellently and there was pleanty of room for the three of us and loads of room for our little boy to crawl around. The kitchen was fully equiped with fridgefreezer, microwave, and everything else you would expect. theres also a downstairs loo which was a bonus. Upstairs there are two bedrooms, both with ensuites and a good size balcony joining them. Theres loads of wardrobe space so we slept in one room and used one as a dressing room. Only downside was that there was no bath and the ensuites were a little small but they're nice and functional all the same. Up the stairs again there is a large roof terrace with umbrella and chairs and a clothes maiden for drying clothes.
Just off the living area there is a terrace with a table and chairs, we ate breakfast out there which was lovely. The villa is right next to one of the pools so the sound of the waterfall was nice and relaxing.
The complex itself is made of a two pools (both on two levels with a waterfall in the middle) and a baby pool with apartments and villas all round facing over the pools. there are also some other apartment bocks at the top which dont look over the pools. The complex is obviously quite new and looks fantanstic. The apartments blocks and houses have been designed really well and its laid out nice.
We stayed in October and even though the weather is still really hot and paphos is still really busy with tourists, the complex was really really quiet, sometimes earily. In the whole week there must have been less than 10% of the residneces occupied and during our whole stay we only saw 3 members of staff. One in the restaurant, one emptying bins and one brushing up. Reception seemed deserted and we didnt find a shop. I did make a few observations while we were there, 1) The lights around the complex go off at certain time sometime before 11pm. 2) A lot of tiles had come loose on the bottom of the pool. They are very small mosaic tiles and are not sharp but there were some large patches missing all the same. 3) The shrubs around the edges of the walkways around the complex were starting to get very over grown and we ended up having to walk a different way to our villa because one of the very prickly bushes was scratching us as we passed. 4) There is an abundance of snails!
The complex is situated on a hill in Chloraka. I would recommend you hired a car. there are some small supermarkets nearby, we timed our walk and it took eight minutes and that was with a pushchair. Theer is also a great supermarket in paphos near the harbour which sells everything you need and we found the best for baby stuff.
We did have a lovely relaxing week at St Nicolas but i worry that it could go down hill over the next few years if they dont keep on top of things and small issues start to build up. I would stay again but would keep an eye on reviews to see how things were.
