Just returned from the a week long stay at the hotel. Stayed in a room on the fifth floor on the block above reception in the main hotel. Sadly, not a refurbished one, very dated but in the most clean. Not a four star hotel in my opinion, between 2 or maybe straining to a 3 star.
The good...the swimming pool is lovely, huge. The pirate ship area is good fun and the indoor pool very nice. The adults only pool looked nice but as on holiday with 3 year old never used it.
We booked half board but never ate there in the evening as we like to go out. Breakfast was satisfactory and fresh. I never like those places where you have to go and make your own drinks, toast etc as it seems such a hassle queueing up, but thats just me. The main thing was it was all fresh and hadn't sat there for hours, for example they have a chef there cooking up fresh eggs all the time.
The Thomson rep at the hotel - asked her to improve a couple of things for us (see below under "the bad") and she did/tried.
The VERY GOOD - the kids club staff are fantastic. Our 3 year old loved it. They did different things every day, each day she left with some sort of craft/artwork she had made. It was open 5 days over the week and the daytime session free. These places are only ever as good as the staff who work there and I cannot fault them.
The bad...without a a doubt the hardest bed I have ever (not) slept in. It would have been more comfortable to sleep on the floor. Also each bed had only one very thin pillow. But, credit where its due I spoke to the rep about this and she arranged for the mattresses (minor improvement only) to be changed and for extra pillows.
The fire alarm also kept going off, approx 30 secs or so only but at 5am in the morning not good.
Sunbeds & umbrellas - in the hotel paperwork in your room it says any towels on sunbeds before 8am will be removed. This is totally untrue. There are far too few sunbeds and even less umbrellas. I had to be sat outside by 7.30am every day or I didn't have a chance at the umbrellas (by the way that meant outside for the day not just putting your towel on a bed) otherwise you don't have a chance. And I saw so many umbrellas uprooted from one location to another if you weren't there. Sunbeds available till around 8.30 but as we were on holiday with a 3 year old we wanted an umbrella so she had shade from the sun.
The spa was also not open (one of the reason we chose this hotel) so not all of public areas have completed refurbishment.
The lift broke down 3 times whilst we were (once when we were in it!0. But the day before we left it broke (Sunday), wasn't fixed and when we rang reception to ask for help with a our cases from the 5th floor on Monday we were told the porter didn't work Monday.
The ugly - sadly a lot of people who were all inclusive thought that meant they just had to drink lager at 9am in the morning. Although there were plenty of litter bins around being all inclusive also seemed to mean you didn't have move any of your rubbish and by 4pm the pool area looked like a bomb site, plus the pool toilets seemed to flood each day.
The resort also comes under the "ugly" section for me. Just lots of tat for sale in numerous shops, like Blackpool with sun.
Agree with other reviewers that the Nags Head is nice for reasonably priced food, like a good old reliable pub lunch. We alos had a very nice breakfast there on our last day. Also went to a couple of restaurants just past Starbucks coffee house on the same side of the road, very nice food.
I won't be returning to the resort or the hotel, however I do hope that staff of the quality in the kids club are something we are able to experience on future holidays. Cyprus is still one of my favourite places just this resort is far removed from being my cup of tea.
