Have to agree with last reviewer. King Richard is the worst hotel I have stayed at in Cyprus. Much the same problems - no air conditioning and had to beg for a fan. We asked for a room change but were told the hotel was full and I even asked our rep to find us another hotel but nothing was found. Poor hygiene in restaurant - no bowls for cereal so asked waitress. She took 2 from a table and I watched her take them to the dishwasher spray and rinse them and then shake the water from them before handing me them to use. I decided to pass on the cereal. A light fitting above our bed fell off - luckily we were at breakfast. If it had happened at night I'm sure we could have been injured. Towels are changed infrequently, after 4 days I took ours to reception but the receptionist was unable to find any more. The staff are uncaring and unable to provide a basic standard of customer service apart from the room maids who do try to keep rooms clean.. The hotel is generally grubby and uncared for. When I asked to see the manager I was told he was not available but he was in the reception area. My advise to anyone contemplating staying there is DON'T. I have found better standards and service in a 1 star hotel in Ayia Napa.

I have to say I wholeheartedly agree with the people who were less than impressed with this hotel. After paying nearly £500 per person for a week half board myself and wife were left bitterly disappointed. Let me run you through it....! Arrive 23.30 start of holiday at hotel informed no meal last orders 21:00 (fair enough).

Next morning air con broken so go to reception and ask for it to be sorted and to rent a safety deposit box for a week @ C£6. told engineer would fix the air con during day. Went back to room with safety deposit box key no barrel in safe. Back to reception who said oh well try and hide money/passports etc behind one of the bed lockers where we were told it would be very safe (images of fawlty towers)!! Went to breakfast, very very limited for three star and you have to pay for water, bit of a cheek, if you do go breakfast is 07:30 - 09:30 but don't get there after 08:15 or most of its gone! Dinner is much the same

The brochure states there is entertainment ignore this and the claim that the restaurant is famous (for what one can only imagine, probably the lack of variety even for a three star).

Anyway after 48 hours air con still not fixed and no engineer arrived so we asked for room change, (which we got 36 hours later) had asked previously but fully booked so insisted on having the fan from recepetion to at least try and cool the room down.

Pool is nice and clean and the maids to be honest are the only nice people in the hotel who will give you extra pillows etc.

Needless to say we only ate at the hotel three times in all .If eating out try the local meze which is not for the faint-hearted (around twenty local dishes) which you can get for as little as C£ 7.50. There are some cheaper restaurants/tavernas in the tourist area which is 80 cents from the bus stop near the hotel. Most other eateries are on a par with Britain give or take a fiver. Beer is cheaper about C£1 - 1.30 depending on where you go. (There are lots and lots of British bars!)

Karaoke is rife and Johnny's bar (one minute walk from hotel) is very friendly with singing waitresses now and again and great table service. You can smoke anywhere in Cyprus apart from the airport, though there is a little smoking room in the arrivals side.

All in all Cyprus, great weather, friendly people (apart from hotel staff). So if you are desperate stay at King richard on room only basis or find another hotel, there are plenty of good ones!!!

p.s you can buy water for 50 cents in the supermarket for 1.5 litres or pay C£2 for a litre in the hotel it's up to you. But please check everything works in your room including whether or not you can actually hang the shower head on the wall, don't laugh we couldn't!

Well, I would just like to say that the King Richard is clean, the staff are very polite, so I had to put a review on here, because when I booked my holiday I made the stupid mistake of checking the reviews after. I really thought I was going to be staying at Fawlty Towers. When my partner and I walked in to the King Richard we were plesantly suprised. It looked quite posh really, Mind you I was still tense about going into our room, again I was happy with what I found, neat and tidy!!!!, clean towels in the bathroom. We were also staying on the roadside of the hotel and couldn't hear much noise just the odd car horn from the crazy cab drivers! The rooms were cleaned everyday!! We only used this hotel as a base as we were too busy enjoying what Cyprus has to offer, I had a fantastic holiday, didnt have time to moan like all these other people who have stayed there. We got such a cheap deal for this holiday, I beleive you get what you pay for, (and more with the King Richard!) the people who wrote these bad reviews should be staying next door at the Four Seasons. That is 5 star!! I Would definitly use this hotel again!

“Another View”

We booked this hotel for a week stay for the Christening of our Grand daughter in Nicosia, to use as a base, but on finding this site and it's reports we were quite apprehensive on arrival. We need not have been!
Our room was one of those not with a sea view but whilst it is overlooking a main road it was not particularly noisy - no more than I would expext. Certainly it was clean and tidy and cleaned each day. And if you are looking for a direct comparison it was as good if not better than a Travelodge in the UK - and you pay £50 a night for one of those with no meals included.
We booked bed & breakfast as we would be doing a lot of travelling during our stay. The breakfasts were always fine - buffet style - but as we arrived late we decided to take advantage of an evening meal offer to B&B residents of a buffet evening meal at £5 per head. What we had was a really impressive 'eat all you can' four course meal that was excellent value for money.
The staff were fine at all times and I have to say that we would go back to this hotel again, as the price that we paid was definately value for money. It isn't a five star hotel but then again you are not paying five star prices!!
By the way the balconies are fine so I can only say I would not want that builder that posted previously around at my house

Do yourself a big favor and stay away from this hotel !
While we were there, we had no hot water for 4 days, The motor in the air con (if that is what it was )burnt out and was not fixed for 3 days and 80% of the staff that could not give a toss for 14 days.
The place is filthy and doesnt just need a lick of paint , but wants knocking down.
I am a builder by trade and let me tell you "All the balconie floors are cracking and dropping and it is only a matter of time before one of them ends up in the pool beneath." The place is an accident waiting to happen, so dont be thier when it does.
The only thing I can praise it for, was the food. The chef did try and do the best with what he had and that was not much.
There are stray cats weeing everywere, everything in the hotel is shabby and I mean everything. We went with Olimpic and if this is the type of hotel they offerring I would never go anywhere with them again.
I'm telling you the truth here, keep away!!!!!!!!!!!
