The hotel had no hot water for days the staff kept saying they were leaving mike the bar man kept asking for a tip for the service he was providing , On inspection of our room we opened the curtain only to have a used tampon fall at our feet (not nice) the staff were no where to be seen when you wanted a drink no very good when your all inclusive the pool was filthy as were the sun loungers, the car hire chap tries to turn you over so dont leave any credit card detail with him unless you want to pay for his next holiday. my duty free fags went missing from my case when the helpfull taxi driver dropped me off at the airport , but the weather was nice and hot, the food was great thats the one thing i cant complain about... Oh yes their is a knocking shop over the road disguised as a kareoki bar if you cant cancell have a nice time : ) IF YOU CAN CANCEL DO IT NOW

my 2 daughters and myself stayed in this hotel fron 17th april to 23rd april 2006. when we first arrived which was around 12 45 am the place looked ok from the outside. we went to check in and the guy on reception was well drunk. he gave me the key to our room then took it back and argued with me as to where it was. we couldnt get a drink as the bar was closed. the drunken receptionist made us a coffee in the end after quite some discussion. on to the room. it was crawling with ants in the bathroom, cockroaches were everywhere, dead and alive. there were 3 lamps in the room 2 didnt even have bulbs in and the third one blew when we switched it on. the bathroom light switch fizzed when we switched it on the blew the electrics out altogether. the curtains were torn and filthy the bed covers were torn and filthy and the mattresses were stained and smelly. the all inclusive was a joke, no snacks between meals, the bar opened when it wanted to so you couldnt get a drink from leaving breakfast till about 10 30, 11 oclock. the meals, hmmm, never seen so much rubbish in my life. breakfast was toast, eggs, hot dog sausages and beans on a good day. lunch and dinner was chicken or pork with chips. and on to the staff rude impolite insulting unhelpful. all in all not a nice place to stay. i would nevcer go back to this hotel if it was the only one standing. what a joy to leave.

After reading some reviews was not expecting much but had booked as it was cheap and convenient. We were surprised that food was above average, staff friendly and helpful. Paid £3 per night to change room to seaview 4th floor - much quieter (rooms facing road in most hotels on this stretch have lot of traffic noise) Room ample size, plenty of storage. Slightly run down in some bits and isnt on beach - thats about a 2 minute walk.

We stayed in the King Richard from the 25th Feb to the 4th March this year - prior to leaving I checked the Trip Advisor and found 3 terribly negative reviews and one that wasn't so bad. Can I just say that the 3 bad reviews filled me with intrepidation and I just thought I would have to play it by ear.

The first thing to understand is that the King Richard is a 2/3 star hotel according to various websites, although it is called the King Richard *** .

The Hotel was clean - I think a party occurred the night of our arrival so the dining room had a small amount of loose party decoration but nothing to worry about and it was cleaned up during the day.

I never saw a cat in the actual Hotel and only saw one or two around the pool at any time.

The food on the morning of our first day was what I had expected from one of the bad reviews - but this was a one off and breakfasts after that fine. Just so you know -
Food:
Breakfasts were either cereal (not the cereal we are used to in this country though) or toast or a full english - fruit juices, tea and coffee.

We were only Half Board but I can say that the evening meals were edible and there was a starter of a homemade soup (which I thoroughly recommend) or a salad starter. The main meal usually had three different choices: An English type meal (examples: roast lamb or beef, chicken chasseur) a fish choice or a local or vegatarian choice - all with accompanying vegatables and potatoes. All were edible and on one night we even thanked the chef.... The chef is generally around to check what is being used to then fill up the containers with more of the same.

Puddings in the main were lovely but they are not labelled as to what they were - so unless you tried something that looked unusal you would maybe miss something quite nice... there is generally a selection of 4 or 5 - ranging from Home made Rice Pud to Cheesecake (which were delicious) and jelly and Ice Creams to fruit.

The staff we found were very friendly and would speak if you said good morning or the usual pleasantries. They otherwise leave you alone - perhaps they have been told you are on holiday and to let you get on with it. But a smile or kind word can work wonders. The waiters were efficient and friendly, so no complaits there.

The rooms were cleaned each day and new towels were given when ever required. I do find that putting dirty towels on the floor will always get you a clean one - it is a practice in some hotels but I find it works. Clean sheets were applied after 2/3 days.

The mattresses - a previous advisor filled me with horror on this subject - so I took all precautions - I checked the mattress on my arrival - it was clean and not a mark to be seen - though obviously wasn't new. I had no problem with the bed except that you only get one pillow - luckily I had a travel pillow with me as well. Blankets can be found in the wardrobe for the colder evenings and we found these sufficient. The mattress are also not Slumberlands - if you know what I mean... lets face it - its a Hotel..

It is true that the Hotel had a problem with no hot water but this affected the whole Hotel and was due to a faulty boiler - I can say that the problem was resolved by the Hotel within 48hours and they were apologetic - these things happen and they tried very hard to resolve the problem and at one point thought it was fixed to find that the problem re-occured - it could happen anywhere.

The beach - If you walk behind the hotel you will find the beach..about 3 mins walk.. the sand so you know is a greeny grey colour so dont be disappointed to find it is not golden sands. The beach area is narrow (probably only about 20 feet if that) - having said that - its a beach... if you walk to the left you will pass all the 5 star hotels - and the beach areas there appear wider and you can use them. I did not have a problem with the beach - other areas can be found to be pebble or golden sands but the golden sands are more towards Lanarca etc. So you would probably need to hire a car.. which is cheap we paid 42 cyp pounds for 4 days on a 3 + 1 deal.

Overall - We had a good holiday. We paid £187 each for flights and Half Board so I believe we paid for a cheapish holiday and the Hotel at this cost could have been a lot worse and frankly it wasn't that bad.

The rooms also come with hair dryers.. not much oomph but mine worked. I also took a travel kettle so that we could make our own cuppas - through the day.

I hope this has been useful.. sorry it was so long..
