When you walk into the reception area of this hotel your heart might well sink as it looks like something from a cheap and cheerful Mediterranean hotel of the 1960s. However, this rather odd reception area must not cause you to run out of the door. You need to view the rooms to discover what an outstanding bargain this hotel supposes.
In Cyprus, where accommodation is concerned, there is no relationship between price and quality; in my experience, hotels on the island are very expensive and offer dirty, run-down rooms and facilities at exorbitant prices (little wonder that every Cypriot hotelier is telling guests this summer that this is a bad year for Cyprus...). In the Livadhiotis hotel, this relationship is inverted, and the guest gets a great room at a low price!
The hotel is probably fairly old and is situated in the centre of Larnaca within easy walking distance of banks, shops, restaurants, the St Lazarus Church, and also the municipal beach. It is also a ten-minute taxi ride from the airport, so this is a great place to stay either following a late arrival, or before an early morning departure (as well as for several days if you want to be in Larnaca).
Rooms are large, have big windows with French doors and a balcony (the sea is visible from 2nd and 3rd-floor rooms that face east), and an en suite bathroom. Floors are laminate, while in the bathroom they are tile. Furniture is some sort of Ikea retro style, the bathroom is done out in funky tiles, and the soft furnishings are 1970s orange with loud patterns. The furniture all seems new, the bed is very comfortable, and amenities such as tea-making facilities (with kettle), fridge, and hairdryer are all supplied. The room and bathroom are immaculately clean.
Breakfast at this hotel is a pretty sad affair, but if you can manage with some bread, cheese, tomatoes, and coffee, then you'll be alright. My theory is, if you pay CYP27 for a double room with breakfast for two people, you can't really complain!
This is not a luxury hotel, but the rooms are large and comfortable, the location is central, and the staff are friendly. Excellent value for money.
