II stayed at this hotel in July 2005. The hotel is situated in a suburb part of Larnaca among block of flats (apartment houses) and residents´ family houses. When I was driven to the hotel I was frightened because our bus stopped in a dusty street among block of houses. No sea but burning streets only.
Reception clerks are probably Russians and their exchange rates are worse than rates at Larnaca airport. Room key is given to you with a huge metal plate so that if you take it to the beach you would be sure that your bag will not be carried away by wind. There is a pool next to the hotel with sunbeds in a shade of trees (very pleasant in the afternoon heat) but from time to time the pool is occupied by local boys. Rooms are nice but small with a little bathroom and a tiny balcony, a TV set and an air-condition without any setting tool – you can switch it on or off only. This air-condition is very effective and you have to switch it off after a quarter of an hour because of terrible cold in your room (and that´s why you can not let it switched on all the night). Cold water in the bathroom changes to hot water occasionally – especially in the afternoon. A main disadvantage is heavy noise from other rooms and a corridor. At night you can hear opening and closing doors, switching on the lights etc.
The hotel offers breakfast only – if you have paid dinners too you get them in hotel Cactus (5 minutes´ walk). Breakfasts are very simple – tea, coffee, bread, jam, butter, salami, cheese. A walk to a beach takes about 10 minutes then you can see a fishermans´port on the right side and the city beach beside it. This beach is covered by fine-grained grey sand and is relatively clean. The sea is very slow descending and suitable for children – 60 meters from a shore the water is to the waist high only. You do not find any parasol nor sunbed nor toilet in the first part of the beach but it is pleasant unoccupied there. The second part next to other hotels is fully equipped with parasols and sunbeds and crowds of holidaymakers too. If you need better and more expensive place you can walk about 15 minutes towards the Larnaca centre and there you can find a long wide beach with parasols, sunbeds and shops along the Foinikoudes promenade – the most lively part of Larnaca.
Larco hotel is very simple but cheap and by my opinion the only big defect is a lack of quiet in the room at night. If you want to save your money and spend a week in Larnaca by swimming, sunbathing and travelling - you can try it.
