Information for travelers who have not pre-booked in Larnaca to be wary of the following:
The owner of Tuck Inn Studios at 95 Athinon Avenue on the Larnaca’s sea front has a new establishment near St Lazarus Square named St. George.
It appears that they are taking advantage of “walk-in’s” at Tuck Inn, their sea front venue, to take travelers through to their new establishment further back from the sea front.
This in itself is no problem - it is the fact that they confirm availability at Tuck Inn, quote a rate – breakfast included. When this is accepted, they change their story saying they do not have availability at Tuck Inn but that they can accommodate one at their new venue at the same rate, including breakfast. However, this all changes when one arrives at St George, their new venue!
We had a situation where staff had confirmed that they had availability at Tuck Inn. The staff called the owner to check on the rate and the owner confirmed availability and gave a rate which included breakfast. When we accepted, his wife then called her husband (the owner) again and after their conversation, she told us that they did not have availability at Tuck Inn but that they could give us a room at the St George at the same rate, including breakfast.
When we arrived at the St George we were told they only had a two-bedroom unit which they expected us to pay extra for. We thought this unfair as they would have known this before we left the Tuck Inn and could have been upfront and honest with us. They finally gave us the room at the rate quoted and after paying for the accommodation, we enquired where the breakfast would be served. This is when we were told that the breakfast was no longer included “because we had a bigger room” – despite the fact that we did not want or need a second bedroom and had no intention of using it.
They reluctantly agreed that we could still have the breakfast but then insulted us immensely by sending a lady directly up to our room to lock the door to the second bedroom and remove the extra towels, small soaps and shampoo bottles. In all the years we have been traveling we have never encountered such treatment. On occasions when it has been out of peak season, as in this case, we have been accommodated in a bigger room where we were not expected to pay extra and where we have not abused or taken advantage of any situation.
Apart from this "bad taste in the mouth" experience - the rooms themselves were not bad. It was not exactly spacious but basic and adequate and with being new, it was clean.
Just be warned of their tactics.
