“idellic scenery”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2013

Around Larnaca Airport a visitor can enjoy the salt lakes which is one of the most beutifull sceneries in Larnaca. Especially during winter time when the salt lake is full of water( it gets dry in the hot summer) and migratory birds ( flamingoes, ducks and many other ).The view is breathtaking especialy at sunset! The sky is changing colours and with the reflection on the water surface makes the views magical. Make sure to take time a walk around the path and take pictures.

“The Amazing Lake trail in Larnaca and the Flamingoes!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2013

The Salt Lake attracts a large number of migrating birds besides flamingoes and the latter form a blaze of pink as they gather in the centre of the lake. Flamingoes are said to be fed with a kind of shrimp that lives in the salt lake.
Everyone says that this year the population of these birds and flamingoes are thousands. They always come in December and stay till March.
When summer comes the water evaporates leaving a crust of salt and a haze of gray dust by the banks. Salt is no longer collected because of the airport which is very close. The best point for photos is to get to one of the birds’ observatories for a better view.
There is a nice trail next to the lake starting from the road that leads to the airport very close to Pattichio Park. It extends as far as the Old Roman Aqueduct (kamares).

“Best Larnaca attraction!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2013

Alyki salt lake is the most picturesque place in Larnaca. Especially during winter time when the lake is full, and migratory birds (especially flamingoes) colour this place in a pleasant way, the view is breathtaking! Definetely worth visiting, ideal for nature lovers.

“lotsa lotsa flamingos”

If you visit this lake, be sure to visit during the migration. It is literally full with flamingos and you can watch their mating dance. The Hala tekke is also beautiful in the background

“Two thousand Flamingoes!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

I walk here almost daily with my dogs and have never seen so many flamingoes on the lake - they are gorgeous. But hurry if you want to see them as they will start leaving in March.
The Hala Sultan Mosque is situated on the bank of the lake and worth a visit. Also the "mosque cats' who are feral but very friendly. They all look very healthy and a local man comes in his car to feed them at about 3pm and they know the routine! They have a little 'shack' just past the mosque car park on the right.
A word of warning though - don't attempt to leave the tarmaced road after the mosque if it is wet (or after heavy rain) unless you are in a 4x4.
