“Staff throughout the hotel are very friendly and helpful.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2011

My husband and I are in our mid 50's and we stayed at this hotel for one week mid March. I had upgraded our room to a seaview and we were given a further complimentary upgrade to a suite, which was very spacious and comfortable with a direct seaview. The rooms and the hotel were cleaned daily to a high standard. We found every member of staff to be extremely friendly and helpful. The bus stop is right outside the hotel and there is a reliable bus service to Larnaca which is a 10 - 15 minute journey. There are also restaurants, bars and supermarkets opposite the hotel.

Dear guest,

We are delighted to see that you have enjoyed your room upgrade to a suite which is indeed more spacious and comfortable with breathtaking views of the Mediterranean sea.

We thank you for your positive feedback on our employees and cleaning standards!
Our location is undoubtedly ideal for those seeking for a quiet stay in perfect settings and on the beach, with easy access to the town center (bus, taxi).

We look forward welcoming you again in the future!

Golden Bay Beach Hotel is definitely not a 5 star quality hotel, nor does it merit a 4 star

Most important, before you read our comments below, we are used to staying in 5 star quality hotels, worldwide. This is the first time we have had to write a negative report on any of the hotels we have used. We had booked for 7 nights but we were so very disappointed with the hotel and the attitude of the Duty Manager (and his lack of interest in our comments) we checked out early after the 3rd night and booked into another 5 star quality hotel and far superior to the Golden Bay Beach Hotel.

Here are our comments on Golden Bay Beach Hotel:

* * Food is over-cooked and quality of ingredients is below average. Food lacked taste and was most unappetising. This comment is relevant for both breakfast and dinner.
**Dining room ambiance is mediocre, similar to eating in a canteen
** Hotel accepts sports teams into their hotel but does not consider their other guests. At one end of the dining room they had a team of Russian football players (about 30 people in total) and the other end a team of Canadian basketball players (about 40/50 people), all dressed in their 'sports' clothes, including shorts etc. It was like dining in a sports canteen..........not a 5-star dining experience at all, nor even a 4 star experience!!!
** In addition the hotel makes no arrangements/planning for when the sports teams will be using the gym/indoor swimming pool so their 'other guests' have no communication/advice as to when the gym etc will be free of the sports folk who block the use of the gym because there are so many of them. The hotel desperately needs to consider its communication skills to other clients and to treat ALL its guests considerately. We arranged to meet with Hotel Duty Manager about this issue and he could see no problem with the hotel's current arrangement at all and he was not very interested in any of our comments (very surprising attitude from a so-called professional in a 5 star establishment)
**When we arrived at the hotel, having parked our car and then unloaded our cases, we reached the reception desk before the porter finally offered to help us with our cases
* *The hotel has had a recent refurbishment but whilst we were there the workmen are still evident finishing off ie painting the areas around the pool area and the view directly below our balcony was of workmen and their tools etc plus associated noise
** The beach generally is not conducive to walking/ bathing etc because there is lots of rubbish, stones/ seaweed. We would have expected the Golden Bay Beach hotel to have at least kept the portion of beach immediately in front of the hotel up to standard for their guests, but sadly not so.
** If in spite of our comments you decide to stay at this hotel, then because of its location we suggest you need a car because apart from a couple of cafes/bars and v small supermarkets (like a local store in fact) then there really is nothing there.
**The Hotel does have a business office with Internet access, which we tried to use but without success. Again, surprising that this hotel has not upgraded from their old-fashioned computer and screen (probably about 20 years old!); it was not of the quality you expect to use in a 5 star hotel
** The ONLY positive thing we can say about the Golden Bay Beach Hotel is that the staff who work in the canteen (sorry, main 'restaurant'! ) and on reception and the cleaning staff are all exceptionally polite, courteous and they all seem to work very hard indeed.

In Summary? We suggest you consider staying at another hotel

Dear guest,

We would like to thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed review and reassure you that your comments, just like all comments and feedback, are respected and appreciated.

We would, however, like to address to your comments about our athlete guests who were staying in the hotel during the time of your stay along with other individual guests. Sport tourism is a significant alternative tourism in Cyprus for the last few years, and we are proud to house such groups and teams in our hotel. The Golden Bay Beach Hotel respects the privacy and individual preferences of all its guests and strives to satisfy each and every one. We in fact made several arrangements to prevent the teams from interfering with the comfort of our other guests, including arranging separate dining and accommodation areas. Indeed on some occasions some of the team members did dine in a second restaurant but this was not the case throughout their stay.
Furthermore, we would like to assure you that our kitchen is of high standard with award winning chefs and approved preparation procedures and recipes. We respect your comments concerning the food served as taste and preferences may vary from each individual.
The beach in front of the hotel is kept up to standard with the hotel working together with the government, assuring that it remains suitable for our guests at all time.
The hotel has completed the renovations on the first floor where the mini suites and the presidential suite are located, along with changes in the leisure club and the cocktail lounge, and so we are ready to welcome the summer of 2011 with amazing new features.

We would like to thank you for your feedback on our employees as the management also recognizes good performance and service in our staff, having adopting an "Employee of The Month" scheme for awarding the most valuable as voted by our guests.

Kind regards,
Andriani Manoli

hree day conference for 200 delegates. The main lecture theatre was a good size (and could also be used for our Gala Dinner). A large screen was available and all the necessary AV equipment we required. On the mezzanine there are three good size breakout rooms that can be adapted for any type of use. We also used the large corridor and open area on this floor. Food was of excellent quality.
The staff were extremely helpful, courteous and totally professional. All our requests we met with a smile and acted upon as soon as possible. Nothing was too much trouble for them.
All our attendees enjoyed the meeting and the hotel facilities.

Their professionalism and knowledge of various congress requirements made my job a lot easier. I would highly recommend the hotel to other congress organisers.

We have visited the Hotel for my sister's wedding in August 2010. The whole wedding was like a dream and we were astonished by the staff friendliness and high quality food and service.
We stayed in a standard room which was very nice and comfortable.
I would highly recommend the hotel to all my friends and relatives.

We have stayed at the Golden Bay for a week in September, and I can say – it was one of the best holidays we ever had. The hotel and the services it offers are of high standards. The room we got was renovated and offered comfort and all the facilities of a five star hotel – sweets and water when we arrived, bathrobes, slippers, coffee and tea making facilities, etc. Daily cleaning was very good, and the roommate paid attention to the detail, just as all other staff did.

The location of the hotel is very good – quiet and on a large beach, away from city traffic and noise, but in the same time just 10 minutes away from the centre. Public transportation was pretty good (bus stop just outside the hotel), and there was a taxi station on premises (with quite reasonable prices). There are few bars and many different ethnic restaurants within the walking distance, but we didn’t have the chance to try a lot, as the dining options at the hotel were very attractive. Every evening there was a different theme night – we especially liked the Cyprus night with traditional cuisine and dancing show. We even had an opportunity to try to dance local dances together with the performing folkloric group – that’s was a lot of fun! Lunch was offered in a restaurant just by the pool – we didn’t have to interrupt our sunbathing. Both quality and taste of food were perfect.

Generally, we were very satisfied with everything. It was our first time in Cyprus, we are planning to go again next summer, and definitely stay at the Golden Bay.

Unfortunately I really do not like Larnica but do not have a choice in going. I believe The Golden Beach Hotel is probably THE best hotel in the location and maybe I should not judge it by other hotel & country standards but here we go.
The refurbished rooms have made a DRASTIC difference to our stays here, and the website shows closure for further work so hopefully that means all the rooms will be refurbished and I don't have to bother with any negative feedback on the old rooms ... because they were dreadful. Every room has a balcony that angles towards the beach however the planters were mostly on our stays empty and covered in pigeon poop.
The beds are nothing special, still the same flat, hard mattress and pillow; the bathrooms are still the same, with full tub/shower and bidet but are kept clean and have Yves Roche(?) toiletries.
The great thing about some of the rooms closer to the water on the east side is the morning/evening sun/sky shows and you can leave your door open at night and listen to the waves. There was nothing more rewarding/inspiring for me one low season stay to sit with my laptop and coffee out onto the verandah early in the morning with the sun rising over the sea and only the sound of the waves in the background.
The rooms have fridge/mini bar; tea/coffee; air conditioning and lovely wood type flooring. The pool and pool bar area are inviting and relaxing. There are better beaches on the planet so if you were looking for a beach holiday, Larnica is not going to be on any top 10 ... or top 1,000 lists for that matter! Although they do have quite a selection of water toys such as sail boards etc. and you can walk for a good mile or so along the waters edge. The gym/spa looks well equipped, there is also a very nice indoor pool.
The staff are friendly and approachable, most speak english fluently. Upon a little exploration you can find local restaurants of varying flavours but there is not much as far as 'shopping' goes that we have found.
The food is okay, but it's seems obvious that Cyprus must have to import a lot of food stuffs which is probably frozen and not robust in flavours. I have tried different Cypriot wines and consequently would rather drink mixed drinks instead(!) We didn't take any chances with drinking tap water either.
I think if you are going to Larnica, The Golden Beach Hotel would be your best bet.
This hotel is a good 30+ minute drive to/from airport and also has a large function area where we have seen a number of local weddings.

Dear guest,

Thank you for taking the time to write such a long review, we appreciate the comments.

We are delighted to see that our renovated rooms have made a difference to your time spent with us, and we hope you will allow us to do so again in the future with our rooms that are being renovated as we speak.

Our hotel is built in such a way to cater for the majority of rooms in having the best possible view and so providing the greatest number of our guests with the chance to enjoy their afternoon coffee and tea on the balcony while admiring the view. We are conscious of the pigeon problem you have experienced as we have tried many methods to avoid the mess, but there is little you can do without intervening nature. We are currently exploiting our options to finding a solution for the particular dilemma and we hope to achieve it by the time of the grand re-opening in February.

The renovations do include bathroom transformations, where a number of rooms will have renewed amenities and so offer a second option to guests.

We would be delighted to see you again another time and enjoy your company over coffee and dessert by the waves since you find pleasure in that.
Until then take care.

Kind regards,
Andriani Manoli

A whole impression of the hotel is disappointing - that is not 5-star. Reasons for such opinion are: rooms are quite spacious but worn-out and don't have sound insulation, meal in a restaurant is not varied and not tasty, outside territory is rather small, a beach is small too. They promise that the hotel will be renovated soon but they can't renovate a view - to the left you can see large pipes of power plant, to the right - port of Larnaca.

Dear guest,

We thank you for posting your comments on trip-advisor but we would, however, like to also comment on a few points.

Our rooms have been recently renovated to high standards and further renovations are being made to a number of rooms, including our mini-suites, as we speak so as to build on our so far established renovational efforts.

Our hotel organises a variety of different theme nights with various menus and entertainment happenings, where our guests enjoy taking part and attenting. We are however planning to enrich our entertainment program even more for when we re-open in February, as we wish to exceed the success we have accomplished the passing year. The food and beverages served on the premises in all 4 restaurants and 3 bars are prepared with care from our professional staff and award winning Head Chef, and we take pride in them.

Hotels on the island are known to be spacious and spread out, as each establishment covers acres of land in rescepct to other hotels worldwide that are limited to adjacent town buildings.
Ayia Napa beaches are indeed prefered by both locals and tourists, but our hotel offers the comfort of a clean and safe beach a minute away from our guests rooms where they not only enjoy sunbathing and swimming but take joy in our watersport activities too.

Our location appeals to the majority of guests regardless the power plant pipes that are visual from afar as they are hundreds of metres away from the premises. The area we are in is peaceful and away from traffic noise but also has a variety of things one could do in short distance. With frequent busses that pass straight outside the hotel, our guests can reach the town centre and the promenade for a nice stroll, shopping and dining in less than 12 minutes, and so the fact that the hotel is not built right in the centre of Larnaca seems more of a plus than a negative aspect.

Finally I would like to inform you that our goal to meet our guest's expectations does not end quite easily, as our continuous efforts to constantly improve ourselves and our services lead us in aiming to exceed those expectations.

So we thank you for your comments and wish to see you again soon with the goal to have yet another satisfied guest and friend.

Kind regards,
Andriani Manoli
