“wonderful staff, lovely hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2012

just arrived back today, brilliant hotel, great food and the pasta was out of this world, one of the nicest pasta I've tasted. Arrived at 10.30pm to a hot meal and warm welcome. Staff were really helpful and happy, always smiling, food was great, really enjoyed ourselves, left at 5.20 this morning and breakfast buffet laid out for us, would go again, lovely unspolit area. well done.

Room Tip: ask for a room away from the road.

Just back from a loveley week holiday, the staff are extremeley friendly and very helpfull.
We booked half board, breackfast starts at 7 and ends at 10, it offers an enormous choise for all tastes. on departure, we were picked up at 5.20 am and at 4 am there was a nice buffet layed out for all of us, truly remarkable.
The evening meal is good too, but a bit repetitive on the appetizers, the prices of wines are very affordable, I would suggest you ored your white wine half an hour before dinner and have it put on ice as it never seems to be cold, that is the only grey mark to an otherwise wonderfull experience. We were sad we hadn't booked a longer stay, but we'll be back.

Room Tip: the bit extra for the upgrade is woth considering

Not strictly winter, but my wife & I booked for early November, looking for some later winter sun and we certainly got what we paid for. Temperatures in mid-late 20s all week and we happily dressed in sandals, t-shirts and shorts each day, when we either went out on trips (local buses to Nicosia and Famagusta very good value) or lounged around the two excellent pools. We booked flights and hotel through London office of CYPRUS PARADISE. All arrangements with them, e-mail contacts, telephone calls were made/answered quickly and efficiently. Price, extremely reasonable and included flights, transfers and half-board. We paid a small amount extra for a room upgrade (the deal was 'pay for upgrade to superior room and we'll give you free (!) automatic upgrade to de-luxe room'). Well worth doing, as only complaints I heard were from people in standard room, who had rooms at the front, facing the main road.
We had half-board, i.e. breakfast and evening meal and food was lavish. A large and varied buffet style breakfast certainly lasted us until evening meal, when another huge buffet was organised with an enormously large tempting array of food. A carousel and long table of starters groaned every night with an amazing numbers of 'starters' many of which changed every night, providing something new to try on each visit. The main course was similarly changed every evening and always included a tasty vegetarian option. And if you have a sweet tooth, the dessert cabinets were full of amazing goodies.
We had initially thought we might have the occasional meal 'out' in a local restaurant, but food in the hotel was so good that we ate there every night. We puchased wine every evening with the meal, but I would advise against the very cheapest at 20TL a bottle, not good quality. Go for 27TL or above - still very reasonably priced, but far superior.
Staff excellent, helpful, charming and clearly well-trained in customer service. All-in-all highly recommended.

Room Tip: Pay the extra (see my review) and avoid getting a noisy room facing main road.

As expected from other reviews the welcome from the Manager was a nice touch. Breakfasts were lovely- fresh fruit salad natural yogurt with honey followed by a delicious omelette for me!! Lots of choice, my husband said the bacon was the best he'd tasted outside the UK!! The Mezzes at dinner were very fresh and always imaginative. In fact one night I didn't bother with a main course just ate lots of first! Deserts were gorgeous too. Drinks were very reasonably priced. Room was spacious and spotlessly clean. All in all the staff were friendly very helpful and I would recommend. The weather was mixed for us but it didn't stop us doing things. We booked a car through the Hotel which arrived outside and we just left the keys with Reception when we'd finished. Very good price of £25 per day for a reasonably new car fully insured. Thank you Pia Bella for a lovely holiday.

Room Tip: We had a deluxe room overlooking the mountains and gardens

Just returned from a lovely week at Pia Bella - our first visit to Kyrenia, Northern Cyprus. Very personable service, staff cheerful and helpful. Nice room (overlooking road but not a problem for us), good food with lots of healthy choices. Ate breakast out on the terrace everyday with 'made to order' omelettes. We spent our time lolling around the pool, down near the harbour (15 mins walk) and hired a car for 3 days to get around to see the sites. Several bars a stones throw from the hotel. Booked via a Travelzoo deal which made it extremely good value. We had a fab holiday!

5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

We stayed at the Pia Bella for a week and were delighted to see that the same high level of service was there as had been last year. All staff who we encountered were friendly and welcoming. It is pleasing to see that there is always at least one member of the management staff present at breakfast time, greeting guests and checking that all is well. Although this approach may encourage some guests to voice niggles and grumbles, this does at least give the hotel staff the opportunity to address these at the time, rather than guests waiting until they have left their hotel, escalating what may have been a minor issue into a complaint. Our only niggles were that one of our beds squeaked a little (we mentioned it but it wasn't a big issue to us) and the neighbours seemed to be holding a door slamming contest (not something that the staff could have done anything about anyway!)

Our room was lovely - clean, with a pleasant view over the gardens and mountains. It had twin beds (most do) but the cleaner pushed them together for us and remade them with double bedding. There is a full size fridge (with mini bar but room for your own drinks), a safe (20TL to use), a TV (limited channels but it gets BBC World News and BBC Entertainment). There are chairs in the room and on the balcony. Wifi is available in the garden and in the reception area.

The saying that you can't please everybody may be true, but the Pia Bella certainly tries hard to satisfy as many different culinary tastes as possible. The breakfast buffet offers a wide choice of local breakfast dishes (cheeses, meat, olives, salad, fruit), as well as a small selection of popular cereals. There is natural yoghurt, both full fat and diet, fruit salad, dried fruits, nuts. There is also a wide array of little pastries (both sweet and savoury), white and wholemeal bread, and a selection of home made jams and local spreads such as tahini, chocolate halva (tastes a bit like Nutella!) and honey. If that wasn't enough, there is a hot buffet of boiled eggs, local sausages, etc, and a chef will cook eggs to order (fried, scrambled, omelettes, pancakes). There's coffee, tea (including a great selection of herbal and fruit teas) and fruit juices to wash it all down. The weather still being warm and sunny, breakfast could be taken outside on the terrace if desired.

In the evening there was again a good choice of dishes available - in principle you could eat as much as you liked and could have four courses: soup (served at the table) and the other courses to which you helped yourself: meze (lots of lovely local dishes of mixed salads and dips), a choice of three main courses (one usually pasta) with hot vegetables and a table full of salads, followed by a fantastic selection of desserts, all portioned small as so many people like to try a few, as well as fresh local fruit.

There was background music at dinner and some evenings there was live entertainment that started halfway through the evening. The bar area is small, but if it's warm enough there is ample space to sit in the comfy chairs and settees in the garden, or there are a couple of lounges - one off the dining room and one next to reception. In the day the pool areas are lovely places to relax and catch some sun. There's a bar in the garden area and plenty of sun loungers as well as chairs.

Walking into town in quite straightforward and it's interesting to do both day and evening. On a Saturday evening in November there was still a good atmosphere in town, with bars and cafes open. There are plenty of small shops to browse in during the day and plenty of cafes for drinks and lunch.

The weekly market is not in the main town - it's worth going to see what they sell (it's a locals market, not a tourist market) - and you might want to buy nuts and Turkish delight from the stalls there as well. There are many places to visit from Kyrenia and several coach/minibus tours can be booked from the hotel. We hired a car and did our exploring using that, allowing us to deviate from the itinerary. Nicosia isn't too far away and worth a visit - you can do a 2 hour walking tour free - meet at the tourist office at Kyrenia Gate at 10am. Take your passport and you can walk through to the Greek side of Nicosia - it's a real contrast from the North! Definitely go to the Karpaz peninsula if you have the chance - it's beautiful! And the three castles (St Hilarion, Buffavento and Kantara) offer wonderful views. St Hilarion has facilities (e.g. cafe) but the other two don't. The Lefke area is also very lovely, with its lush vegetation and date palm trees.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the garden rather than the road.
