“Good location, but not for fussy guests!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2013

We stayed here with our wedding guests in October last. The location was extremely handy for both the guests and for myself in the days before the wedding as we could walk to town in 15 minutes. The accommodation prices were extremely reasonable for everyone, too. There is also a selection of self-catering and B&B accommodation, which suited the needs of our group, as well as ample parking space for rental cars and the hair salon next door.
On the day after the wedding we reserved the bar at Hotel Club Z and had a great singsong with finger food. It really was the best choice for our group.

The rooms are varied, some are lovely but the mini-villas are very basic. In general the hotel is clean enough, with nice grounds and banana plants everywhere. Some reviews talk about insects but I have been coming to Cyprus long enough to realise that this is a challenge no matter where you stay.
Another challenge in Cyprus is the whole concept of health and safety. Both my father and my sister injured themselves at the hotel, with one walking into a plain plate glass door and the other slipping off steps with no handrails. The injuries were not too serious but I would perhaps advise elderly travellers or those with toddlers to be aware of hazards like these at many northern Cypriot locations.

Breakfast at Club Z is generous and pretty standard for Cyprus too, with different breads, cheeses, meats and fruits on offer. Some good coffee would have been nice as I needed it that week! However Club Z is within walking distance of Molly's for a good 'fry up',Manipeni for pizza, Shooters where I got my coffee fix and Artisan, the french patisserie, for a treat. I also recommend Odessa nailbar just down the street, for a quality manicure at a very reasonable price.

So the staff... they were a set of characters, not many of the speaking English or appearing too interested in the guests, particularly the ones in the breakfast room - our guests often commented that is was very different to the overly enthusiastic waiters on the harbour!
I think that a little service with a smile and a few English lessons would really improve the buisness of Club Z. In fairness to the manager, he was very helpful to myself and my husband at the planning stages and our guests were made feel welcome. It is a family business run by a local Cypriot family and we were glad to support this hotel with our patronage.

Room Tip: The hotel rooms are much nicer than the poolside minivillas.

We have just returned from a 2 night stay at the Hotel club Z. Where do I start ? The standard of the room was truly appauling, it was unclean, poorly maintained. We had a self catering apartment but the facilities were totaly inadequate, there was insufficient crockery, only two chairs, one of which was broken and the electric supply kept tripping out.
The bathroom was a joke, the bath had been painted with gloss paint and was peeling badly, the shower head was caked with limescale and the toilet cistern took an age to refill. The front door had more holes in it than a swiss cheese.
The grounds to the hotel looked as if they had not been tended to for several weeks. I am afraid to say that I cannot find one redeeming feature to say about this hotel.

Room Tip: Just avoid, it needs rebuilding.

Chose this as a cheap option. Pleasantly surprised with the spacious rooms, food was plentiful and cheap, and free wi-fi around most of the hotel was appreciated by the kids. Provided a good base for our short break touring around Northern Cyprus - hotel location also allowed us to walk down to the harbour in the evenings which is very pleasant. UK sockets in the rooms was also a surprise bonus as we didn't have to fight over the continental adaptor.

Room Tip: Our room above reception had good views towards the mountains. Ask for the freshly cooked omelettes...

Just back from a week in Hotel Club Z. The room was lovely, the hotel decor modern and clean but nothing was what we expected. The staff did not go out of their way to make you feel welcome and were not very approachable (except one guy).
We were accompanied by a Turkish speaking friend when we checked in and this turned out to be a negative in some ways as we were completely ignored in the conversation until we were asked to pay. We had to pay upfront for some reason and were told the price in Turkish Lira, we asked what that is in Euro as I had booked it in Euro it seemed to be considerable effort on the receptionist's behalf to do the calculation on the calculator. I will say though we got a great price at a little over €40 a night.
We were given no information on breakfast times, the restaraunt, the bar or housekeeping. When we did ask we were given very loose information with staff pointing vaguely in the direction of the building by the pool. Turns out they serve lunch in the breakfast room although you have to go looking for the staff. Only on one occasion the waitress came to us at the pool to enquire whether we would like drinks. The food was fine and not over priced but what you are expecting when you order and what you get are two very different things. The bar is manned by the reception staff and again we did not know this for the first few days and thought it was closed. The hotel missed a trick on that one as there was a big crowd in the hotel who would have been up for a few drinks most evenings.
The pool area is a great little sun pocket getting the sun pretty much all day. The pool was a bit cloudy though and looked like it needed to be clean when we arrived. By the time we were leaving it looked like it had been cleaned up a bit but the chlorine in it was very overpowering. There were others swimming in it every day and they seemed happy enough. I was only getting into it to cool down. The pool is not heated.
There was a building marked Sauna that we did not notice until our last couple of days. It says on the website there is "heated swimming pool, Jacuzzi, Steam Bath, Sauna and fitness room will keep you busy even during your busy days while an appointment at the massage room will offer you the complete relaxation in your mind, body and spirit" but no mention was made on the availability of these facilites.
This was definitley one of the least cluttered hotels I have ever been in. There was no information anywhere in the form of signs or leaflets. Even in the restaraunt there appeared to be only one laminated menu which had to be shared between people.

Like a lot of things we noticed while on our trip things seem half done. The door handle of our room was practially falling off, the flush on the toilet was just a piece of string, a bit of the stairs fell off one day, there was a considerable amount of rubbish out by the back entrance lying on the ground beside the skip, the sun loungers were kind of old with a broken one left our for people to use, the plants were all overgrown and it was a bit of a jungle to reach the pool side bungalows.
So as the title says it was almost perfect. I don't normally spend a lot of time lounging about a hotel or by a pool but this time round it was what I was all about so once you are not looking for attentive staff or a hotel that can meet all your needs on holiday it was a great place to stay especially considering the price.

Room Tip: The pool side bungalows are not that nice. If you are not planign on self caterign then opt for a re...

The positives:
Very good price through "laterooms.com"
We had a quiet room above the breakfast room, with a view of the mosque and the swimming pool.
Beds were quite comfortable.
Our room had a balcony overlooking the pool, so we got the free wifi in the room as well as in reception and by the pool. Very pleasant grounds with banana and other tropical trees.
Breakfast was nice, good variety of breakfast food and other dishes cooked to order, the cheese straws were particularly yummy.
There are parking spaces (but limited at some times of the day).

The negatives:
Variable water pressure, shower water lukewarm, but OK in the warm climate.
Old scratchy towels, but they were clean.
Our balcony door did not lock, but our main door did, the room next door had problems locking their door onto the corridor and ours started to come apart in the last few hours of our stay. (I managed by taking anything valuable with me when I left the room)
"Tea and coffee making facilities" was an electric kettle and 2 mugs, no tea, coffee, sugar or milk which seems strange to an english person like me.
No mini bar only empty fridge which was lukewarm.
A safe was in the wardrobe but locked, and no instructions for use.
No independent bedside lights, only wall lights, one of which did not work.
We were only there for two nights so did not have time to iron out all these little problems.

We investigated dinner for 20 TL the first night, but thought better of it, as there was no vegetarian food for me, just a buffet of "Turkish food". Staff in the dining room spoke very little English, when we asked what was on the menu and they said, "meat, meat and meat". Dining room seemed to be backing onto the Zeus casino, quite noisy, lots of slot machines and not a pleasant experience, so we did not eat there.

Otherwise:
Room was a bit shabby/tired.
"Satellite" TV in room was OK, but only one english language channel.
Room was cleaned OK and we had 2 mini shampoos in the bathroom on arrival and 2 mini soap bars left after the first night - perhaps if we'd stayed longer we would have got shower gel?
The room had air-conditioning, but cannot comment on this as we did not have to use it.
Swimming pool looked great, but unfortunately we did not have time to use it.
We never found the indoor swimming pool mentioned by others, if it is still open.

If you want a nice romantic dinner take a taxi for 10 TL down to Kyrenia harbour, or you can walk as it's apparently very safe to do so, but feels a bit spooky after dark as it's so quiet. We found The Corner Restaurant at the harbour very friendly and good variety of food both Turkish menu and international, 3 courses including wine, and coffee or brandy for about 50 euro/142 TL for two.

Room Tip: Ask to see your room first and check that the door locks etc work

Two couples taking a one-night break to visit Kyrenia Harbour and Bellapaise Abbey. The hotel was located a short walk from the Harbour and was a haven of peace and quiet. The grounds were planted with a great variety of tropical fruit trees and we were given a personal tour of it by the owner, who was obviously very proud of it. The rooms were clean and well equipped and the staff were friendly and helpful. The outdoor swimming pool was excellent with plenty of sun-beds available. Breakfst was served outside in a lovely setting; viewing the pool and the gardens. Could have served a greater variety of breakfast options but was adequate for the price. All in all this was a pleasant and satisfactory stay. We will be returning soon.

The worst hotel we have ever been to as far as cleanliness safety and bad staff. It didn't live up to the pictures, cheap ikea furniture, dirty, no mini bar only empty fridge,no coffee facilities broken or damaged sockets, bedside light cable joined with frayed tape when pointed out to manager we were told to leave it alone as it was fine as you don't have to touch it. No fire safety instructions or apparatus to be found including smoke alarms. Breakfast was terrible, dry bread/toast and no butter. Sauna and indoor pool hasn't been in use for a very very long time and all the sun beds were black with mould and the like. We left after second day as we could stand no more.

Room Tip: Don't stay at this hotel if you value your health or safety

Thank you for your feedback.

I wish to make clarification on some of the points you raised:

a) We have tea/coffee making facilities but you would need to purchase the tea and coffee from the reception. The milk is provided for free.

b) Our mini-bar is filled on request. It is primarily there to provide our guests with a storage facility for any food and drinks they purchase.

c) It is clearly stated in our web sites that the indoor pool is only open during the winter season.

d) You are able to request omelettes / scrambled eggs for breakfast at no extra charge. This is on top of the range of food we make available: boiled eggs, freshly picked fruits from our garden, cereals, various types of cheese, cheese pastries, olives, butter and jam, salads, toasted bread, etc.

It is regrettable that instead of taking pleasure in your stay at our beautiful and conveniently located surroundings, you chose to focus on Health and Safety issues to the detriment of your enjoyment.

I wish you a more pleasant experience on your next holiday.
