“Very poor .....”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012

This review is based on the second stay that we have had there this year, in March the experience was very different.

On arriving it was very clear that they had had a major turnover in staff and that communication was a problem. However our room was ready on arrival and the hotel had carried out our pre-arrival requests (duvets on the base of the bed to make it softer as the beds are VERY hard).

We had continual problems with the waiters at dinner who didn't want to take drinks order, resolve issues with the buffett and in particular one waiter who was incredibly rude. At breakfast the waiter also refused to serve us an omlette that my husband ordered and would also argue with me about a fruit order.

The housekeeping staff leave a lot to be desired. For two days on the trot our bed was not made and nor was the bathroom cleaned. One day they forgot to empty the bin so I made a make shift bin which was literally overflowing by the time they came the next day. For the duration of our 8 day stay a glass I was using to take medication was not cleaned / replaced by the hotel, I had to do it myself.

When we checked out I did mention the above to the front of house manager but I am not sure what will be done to rectify this. She did mention that another guest had also ccomplained that they hadn't had their room cleaned for two days.

The airconditioning kept tripping but could be reset at reception, one night it went off 9 times but was always reset - the answer the receptionist gave me is that people keep turning the heating on (despite it being 25 outside) and it was causing an issue with the system. The room at night became unbearable and one night I managed to only get 3 hours sleep.

For the majority of the stay one of the lifts was out of order although the sign kept disappearing telling you that. You would enter the lift and the doors would just open and close and if it did go anywhere when it hit the second floor it jolted terribly and you wondered if you would actually make your floor.

The hotel was very quiet and it was still weather to be by the pool. However there were no pool attendants or any staff in the pool bar. Very annoying as my husband had to frequently go into the hotel for drinks - not very acceptable.

Finally on this trip the staff seemed to have lost all of their name badges so it made it very difficult to highlight the occassional piece of good customer service (the cynic in me suspects they have removed the badges so people can't complain about them...)

Whilst Kyrenia is a lovely little place, we would not stay at this hotel ever again.

Room Tip: Stay poolside as being on the road is very close to the Mosque and it is very noisey.

As long as you don't expect too much you will be ok.
Upside - The pool is massive. Air con works well, which we were glad of as it was in the high 90's every day. Shower was good, but just flooded the bathroom each time.
Downside - VV Noisy as it is situated on a busy duel carriageway. Hard beds - we ended up folding our duvet and placed it under our mattress cover to give it bit of extra padding. No tea or coffee facilities. Our room was not hoover the whole week we were there. Food - As long as you are not fussy you will be ok. Breakfast ok. Dinner on the other hand. 4 hot dishes, normally 1 is rice, 1 veg option and 2 meat option and then enough salad stuff to keep a family of rabbits happy for weeks.

Room Tip: Back of the hotel would be best as this hopefully reduce the traffic noise.

stayed here with family, lovely restaurant and gardens, the pool was the biggest we have ever seen in a hotel and the views were just stunning....will return again. The rooms were modern, clean and new as were the bathrooms. Had a very restful sleep and no complaints about hard beds, mine was just perdect.

We stayed at this hotel whilst in Cyprus. We didn't select to visit as a holiday so wasn't expecting a holiday hotel.

It was lovely and clean and the deocr was nice. The hotel staff are pleasant although their English isn't good but we got by.

The food is poor and we eat out every evening but did have breakfast of toast and a mid day snack from the snack bar such as a burger or pizza which was fine.

We walked to the harbour most days (about 15 minutes) via one road which sometimes didn't have a path or it was broken so not particularly good idea for children or older people but a taxi was only about £3.

The pool is very big and there was always a lounger free with free use of pool towels.

The 'call to payer' can be annoying so ask for a room at the rear of the hotel if you want a good night sleep and wear earplugs/ipod by the pool. I would also suggest using the duvet in the wardrobe as a matress topper. I am used to a hard matress both other may not be.

We are returning - not for the hotel but will stay there again as it does the job.

Room Tip: Room at the rear allow you to sleep through the 'call to prayer'

You should understand that this is a hotel for Turkish tour groups who usually stay one or two nights on their way through (in the low season anyway).  So as such it really caters for that.  The beds are harder, which can be countered with an extra duvet cover (in the closet) under the sheet.  Also one blanket/top sheet that barely covers the two of you (which also can be countered by asking for another, one for each).  Also you get half board, and the food tends to be for Turkish tastes...which is fine unless you have to have bacon and eggs in the morning and pasta every evening. Also for the Turkish tour groups, occasionally there is evening entertainment, which would be ok, (even if you don't know all the songs that everyone is singing along to) if it werent played so unbearably loud...loud enough you can't speak at dinner.  It would be those evenings, maybe once or twice a week, that you might want to dine out.

In any case, request a room by the pool, as the road side is too noisy. And taxis or rental car will be required to get to any beaches or sights. All in all, a clean hotel with a fabulous pool, as others have already mentioned.

Room Tip: Request a room facing the pool

On the positive side the pool is gorgeous, really big and lots of sun loungers.
Views are breathtaking.
Reception staff on the whole friendly.
Room and bathroom looked lovely.

Negatives- bed so hard I thought about sleeping on the floor, in the end I took spare duvet out of the wardrobe and folded it in half and lay on that which made it bearable (just).
Food was pretty bad, breakfast passable but my dinner was not only unidentifiable, but cold. I have no idea what I ate but can say it wasn't nice.
Waiters not friendly, don't ask if they can get you a drink, don't speak at all as far as I can tell. They seem to just stand around doing nothing which is not acceptable.
Room very noisy as by a main road.
Mini bar not very clean.
A/C controlled by key card so when not there it is off, so first night was unbearable it was so hot.

I know not the hotels fault, but the road into the town (if you walk) is awful, barely any pavements and ones there are, are uneven, mad traffic, no where to cross.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the poolside.

This hotel is very clean and the pool is one of the biggest I have ever seen however there are a lot of minuses.

The food is an adventure to put it mildly, buffet style every night with plenty of salad but little else. They have four or five hot plates but trying to make a meal out of whats under them is a challenge.

Most of the staff dont speak to you and it takes quite a while for them to take any dirty plates away between courses. They dont even say hello when passing, and this is from the top down.

One pile of plates and wine glasses stayed on a table by the pool for 2 whole days.

The air conditioning failed 3 times during our stay making sleep difficult, we opened the patio doors but kept the netting in place, unfortunately by morning 6 mozzies were sharing more than the room with us.

The sheet that is on the bed is literally the same size as the mattress, there is no overhang and its a strange waffle type material, we nicknamed it "the tea towel" thank goodness a duvet was in the wardrobe but with no cover on (hope they launder it inbetween, but guessing not)

If you're looking for somewhere just to sleep and have a reasonable breakfast stay, but anything else keep looking. Its 100E per night so not really cheap, plus its on a very busy road with a mosque opposite so prayer calling 5 times a day.

I disagree on one point the previous reviewer wrote, it is well within walking distance of lots of shops and eating places and even the harbour, but if you're infirm or tired a taxi to the harbour is 9TL there and 7TL back (road system)

Room Tip: Poolside rooms be aware that the kitchen is below and deliveries come from about 5.30am and the road...
