“a spot of lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2012

A group of us poped in on the off chance we could have a spot of lunch, the majority of tables were reserved, but, they moved some table about and got us sorted. The food was suerb, I have eaten trout before and didnt like it, although I heard this place have "the best trout" so I got a starter size and I am sooooo glad I did, it was superb!

The Mill Hotel is one of the nicest hotels in the mountains of Cyprus, next to a small river / creek which is music to the ears. The architecture of the building is very nice. The highlight of the hotel must be the restaurant at the top which has stunning views of the nearby peaks (Kakopetria, the village where the hotel is located, is in a valley in the lower slopes of the Troodos mountain range). The food is delicious, with a vast array of traditional dishes. The breakfast is also super with a very rich selection. The rooms are large, well furnished and with a nice view. The issue with me is the fact that the restaurant is located at the top of the hotel and it gets a bit noisy at nights for people staying in the upper level rooms. There is also the issue of the open air bar at the entrance of the hotel, which generates a bit of noise. I would personally go there in the winter and enjoy the village and the surrounding areas in peace and quiet. It is great to sit in the restaurant, enjoying the cypriot food and wine with the several nice fireplaces warming the place. Lovely! If the hotel management takes care of the small issues, the Mill Hotel would be an excellent place to stay at. Overall, a very good place with room for improvement

I have been there with my "just married" husband and we enjoy it. Special atmosphere, very big room with a nice balcony and Jacuzzi at the bathroom. Nice breakfast. Hearing the river below music for the whole time.

The hotel has a bar outside unfortunately with live music playing very late. Impossible to get some rest. I was very disappointed and the hotel manager didn' t agree to stop the music. Located in a very quiet area without the music, the hotel would have been pleasant.

Although off the beaten track it's worth seeking out this gem. Everybody raves about the trout but the whole menu is interesting, well presented and we have loved every dish we've tried. We then had the perfect excuse to stay overnight. Our room was a good size, clean and extremely comfortable with a secluded balcony. The staff were delightful - particularly the smiley breakfast waitress who replenished the buffet tables and waited on the tables efficiently. The breakfast was really interesting and varied and the coffee and tea better than in most hotels we've tried. One gripe was that we stayed on a Sunday and the live music from the outdoors bar and the consequential party were noisy.
Booking for the restaurant is rewarded by a balcony table rather than one indoors and there are only 13 rooms so it's essential that you book those. Enjoy!!

Whilst it is nice to live in Cyprus 2 minutes from the sea there are times when you need to get away from the heat and seek peace and tranquilty and The Mill offers just that-it is worth the 2 hour drive from Paralimni where we live to swap the frantic life for a laid back and relaxing stay. The Junior Suites are divine with beautiful balconies where you can look over Kakopetria and take in the breathtaking views of the village and the Troodos. You can then relax in your jacuzzi bath with the excellent potions provided by the Hotel.Like other reviewers the dinner - especially the local trout - is superb and I agree if you can get a table on the balcony and listen to the sound of the running water in the adjacent stream and take in the view there is no better place to enjoy the excellent food. Also cross the bridge in the hotel grounds and enjoy Old Kakopetria and see how Cypriot Villages used to be - too many people simply see Cyprus from Paphos or Ayia Napa and miss out on little gems like The Mill.

Room Tip: Ask for a Junior Suite

This restaurant came highly recommended - and it didn't disappoint. It's an impressive building, with the restaurant occupying the most of the third floor. There are tables outside and - if you can, weather permitting - go for a table on the balcony. In the height of summer, there was a refreshing breeze and with lights twinkling, the sound of rushing water and a fantastic view out over the valley it made for an amazing atmosphere. The food was equally impressive - fish is a major feature along with the usual steaks, burgers and some out of the ordinary chicken dishes (homemade chicken Kiev, Maryland and - my choice - Swiss, stuffed with cheese). Good selection of international wines - from Euros20-30. In all we paid Euros70 for 2 courses for 2 people with wine. Service was very friendly with the owner stopping and chatting to all guests. Booking recommended - especially for an outdoor table.
