“A bit confused”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2014

This museum is spread over 6 floors, with the permanent exhibitions on floors 0 to 2 and temporary ones on floors 4 and 5.
I normally love visiting museums, especially ones that I hope will teach me more about the country I am visiting.
However, this museum left me feeling very unsatisfied. It was difficult to follow and did not flow well. Room to room there did not seem to be much logic - either telling a story chronologically or by theme (except for the temporary exhibitions on the top floors).
An hour would be more than enough to walk around.
For €5 an adult, it was not good value and I would not recommend it.

“A nice stop on a tour”

Impressive building on several levels, friendly staff speaking German/English/French, exhibition not extraordinary but rather boring. For students under 26 free with student identity card

“Impressive surroundings, impressive display”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2014

Just down the street from the ducal palace, you can't miss this essential Luxembourg museum built within several gutted and renovated houses. The video of the renovation can be seen inside, and some original fixtures, like the fireplace, were kept and incorporated into the new building. The exhibit begins several floors underground, and gradually introduces the visitor to the history of the city. A must-see for anyone, including impatient kids, who were sufficiently drawn into the exhibit to forget all about the toy store up the street. At least for an hour or so. Excellent complement to Les Trois Glands.

“A good intro to Luxembourg!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2013

Learn lots about how Luxembourg started as a small town to becoming the country it is today. Especially interesting is from the 20th century how Germany wanted to assimilate the Luxembourgers. A great introduction to the city and country.

They have a MASSIVE elevator. Size of a small apartment...

Tip: FREE for students! :)

“A Great Introduction to Luxembourg”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2013

This intriguing museum, housed in a gorgeous old mansion just off the main squares, was a perfect introduction to our stay in Luxembourg city. It gave us a great abridged history of the place and enriched the rest of our stay in the capital. The models showing how the city transformed over the centuries was particularly enjoyable, and for the less sophisticated- the museum also has a rather fabulous glass elevator!
