I checked into the Hotel Francais for three nights in July 2006 after abandoning the awful hotel at which I had a reservation. The location is absolutely perfect, right on the main square. The staff were very kind and helpful, as well. I requested a single but instead got a studio apartment just a few doors down the street at the same price. It was wonderful to have a refrigerator, computer desk, dining table and etc. for only about 100 euros.

My only complaint was the breakfast buffet, which was free but a little bit lacking.

My baby daughter and I were in Luxembourg for a weekend, following a business meeting on Friday.

We enjoyed both the city and the Hotel Francais, which put us up in their "annex" on the charming Place Guilliame II, just a two minute walk from the main hotel on Place des Armes. Annex Room 3 was new, clean and baby-proofed, with low beds and huge windows that opened from the top.

The reception staff was helpful, suggesting restaurants and a beautiful playground about a ten minute walk away.

One caveat: although our room had a refrigerator and stove, we could find no place in walking distance to buy anything but expensive cheeses. There was no supermarket or "mini-market", and after 6 even the newsagents were closed. Although cafés are open late, tourists with cars may want to stock up BEFORE they get downtown.

We just came back from a weekend at this hotel. We drove around first while trying to find our way, so we were able to appreciate how well located it was!(Pedestrian zone, but two convenient parking garages close by).

We had two rooms. Ours, a double, was small but enough. The bathroom was normal, with a little shower. The children's was bigger and it accomodated 3 people (double bed and a single). They had more room than us :-)

The staff was *very* helpful. We wanted to go to the casino and the gentleman at the reception desk printed us maps, and called the place to ask specific directions.

In the morning also we got good service from the people at the restaurant. The breakfast was a basic buffet (included), but we asked for chocolate milk and they prepared it for us :-)

Besides all this, the location!!!!!! It was walking distance to MOST of the major things we wanted to see. And when the rest of the town was dead, our "plaza" was alive :-)

I would stay here again!!!!!

I had the opportunity to try out two different hotels in Lux. City last week. I could not decide which to stay at over a 4 day stay, so I booked each for 2 days. We stayed at the Hotel Francais first. It was the less expensive of the two. The other was the Hotel Cravat. I will post a separate review for each. The Hotel Francais is in an excellent location, one block from a bus stop and about a 5 minute ride by bus from the train station. It was reasonably priced, I paid 125 Euros for 3 adults, breakfast included. The breakfast was very good. The rooms are clean, but very spartan, and very small. The shower was is incredibly small. The beds were comfortable, but with a king bed, and a rollaway, there was almost no room to walk around. For a single traveller or a couple, this would be a good place, not for three however.
