This is the second review I write about Oberweis. Whilst, I fully assume what I had written the first time, I consider fair to add a comment on the service after my most recent visit.
Last Saturday we were in the centre and we decided to have a small shopping break at the new shop of Oberweis. Three floors, modern design, interesting architectural details, an impressive entrance for their new establishment just opposite to the old one.
The ground floor was overcrowded and it was hard to go through. We headed to the elevator close to the entrance. The elevator case looked very fancy but the elevator was terribly busy and slow. We decided to use the stair case behind the elevator. Nothing fancy here.
The first floor is used as a cafeteria and the second one as a restaurant. We were prompted to sit on the second floor and were enchanted to have a small table by the window.
It took some time before someone appeared. He cleaned the table and left. Later, much later, the same person appeared just to bring us the catalogue and disappeared again. We waited patiently for him to show up to order. Finally, there he was! We thought we could be looked after. Not that easy. We could only order the drinks but we had to go downstairs to choose our sweets. He did not specify where exactly but I found out that he meant the ground floor. In all their shops you have to choose your sweet at the counter, they give you a ticket and the waiter brings it to you. There was not an issue before. Well, it was an issue in this immense shop! Due to the crowd in front of the counters but also due to the personnel behind the counters. Customers who just wanted to buy and customers who just wanted to order for the "salon" were confused. The vendors who were dealing with the customers had to joggle over the hands of the vendors feeding the display with fresh products and vice-versa. There was no line. Noone keept an eye on priority.
There was a couple just in front of me. The lady was speaking to me rather than addressing them even though I clarified we were not together. The couple managed to have their order through to find out that they had to search for a table and wait for at least 10 minutes!
I ordered. I was given a card that I had to pass to our waiter. Meanwhile the drinks were served by a different person. A third person took the card and disappeared. After 45 minutes we had still not received our sweets! When we asked to cancel the order and only pay for the drinks, we found out that the card did not contain our order!! Maybe that was the order of the couple standing in front of me at the counter!
They have to seriously improve their service and invest a lot in the organisation of the tasks, distribution of work force and customer satisfaction. We will continue buying their delicious pastries but we will not repeat the experience of a coffee break in their shop in the city!!
