Description: Giannini a family run business since 1988 is an excellent place to have lunch or dinner when visiting Valletta. The restaurant is situated above St. Michael's bastions with vast views of Manoel Island and the pretty Marsamxetto Harbour. The third floor of a typical Malta townhouse, reached by lift from the ground floor lounge bar, has been converted into a delightful restaurant. Giannini tends to be popular with locals for business lunches and romantic dinners giving it a casual but discreet atmosphere. The cuisine is a delicious blend of Mediterranean food. Fresh fish is available daily (ask the host) and you should also consider the daily specials such as the pastas scribbled on the board. The a la carte menu changes according to season with the current options for starters including carpaccio of octopus, risottos and fresh seashells amongst others. Mains include roasted lamb, local rabbit, pan seared duck breast and daily fresh fish and fresh angus beef. The a-la-carte menu is attached next to Giannini's contact details above. A rather comprehensive wine list is also available to complement the meal.

“Excellent view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2013

We were recommended this restaurant by the proprietor of our hotel, so decided to give it a go. Bit tricky to find but worth the searching out to get the wonderful views from the upstair balcony, which offers a panoramic vista of the whole of Marsamxett Harbour. Food couldn't be faulted. Fish cooked to perfection and the apple pie for sweet was succulent and moist. Waiters and staff very attentive - possibly a bit too much, if you were after a more laid back feel to your dining experience. However, nothing was too much trouble. Not the cheapest meal we've ever had but didn't expect it to be!

“won't go back again”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2013

First thing that put me off from such restaurants is....that they charge you (per person) for service charge, so think twice before you give tip. Secondly this rest serves main course without veg or patatoes if you don't pay 2 euro extra for each small side plate. The fish was too small for 21.50 euros. A bottle of wine that costs 2.50 euro from the store, you pay 18 euro for it at Gianini. I don't think that this restaurant have a/c so watch out in summer time as the breeze is not enough especially if its not bit windy.
I will never use this restaurant again.

“Hidden Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013

Great evening! Food, service and view all excellent. Although the main menu did not cater for vegetarians ( you could probably arrange this in advance however) I found the starters amazing and no problem to have as a main course. Dessert was very tempting for one who almost never has dessert. Staff could not have been more attentive and helpful. An amazing evening- do not miss out this hidden gem!! Great quiet location with great views. Can you tell I had a great night?!!!

“Delicious food, nice view, good service +++++”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2013

Spent a lovely evening with family and friends, in this beautifully situated restaurant overlooking Floriana, Ta'Xbiex Marina, Manoel Island and Valletta. A view not to be missed. Nicely decorated restaurant with welcoming staff. Entering into the restaurant we were welcomed by a nice display of fresh fish accompanied by an assortment of mussels, razor clams and what have you. Food was fantastic, cooked to perfection and served delicately by the friendly and profession staff. Dessert was mouth watering. Well Done Ruth & Aaron and keep it up. We really had a nice evening.
